In an unprecedented move, The Sharks executive have elected the recall two former coaches to help John Plumtree as his side struggles to adapt to the creative style of play required to secure much-needed bonus points this year.
Ian MacIntosh and Kevin Putt will both join up with the Sharks squad on 1 April and it is hoped that adding yet more former coaches into the mix will help to increase the flow of ideas between the 8-man coaching panel and the squad. Putt has been brought in as specialist strategy coach, while sorting out the players’ mental issues will also be a part of his remit.
MacIntosh’s role is less clear. When Sharksworld managed to get hold of him late last night, he merely mumbled something about “old goats learning new tricks”. This may have something to do with the players’ skills, so perhaps Mac will be working closely with the centres trying to coach them out of the “crash-ball” style that has proved so ineffective this year.
Rumours that Henry Honiball was being considered to play flyhalf this week were quashed, though, with Plumtree insisting that “Lem is just here to help out with the kicking – maybe a spot on the bench at most. These are tough times”.
We’ll keep you posted as we discover more about what the first of April has in store for our beloved Sharks.
