Recent news to emerge from Durban is that Patrick Lambie seems very much in the selection mix for this weekend’s Super 14 game between the Sharks and the Lions in Johannesburg.
Lambie was earlier presumed to be taking part in the SA Under 20 training camp, ruling him out of this weekend’s game. The young fullback was in Durban with his Sharks teammates on Monday, though and must surely be an odds-on favourite to retain the number 15 jersey for the trip to Coca Cola Park.
This leaves John Plumtree in the enviable position of being able to select a backline unchanged form the unit that played the Reds. The only real debate will be around the bench composition and whether Waylon Murray and Lwazi Mvovo may have done enough in the Vodacom Cup side to regain and retain respectively their places in the squad.
There will, however, be changes upfront, with Willem Alberts likely to come in for the injured Ryan Kankowski at number 8 and Jean Deysel occupying the number 7 shirt. Johann Muller should replace Wilhelm Steenkamp in the squad and Plumtree will need to decide whether to rush his former captain straight back into the starting lineup – a tricky decision given Alistair Hargreaves’ heroics against the Queenslanders. Keegan Daniel should come onto the bench if cleared of concussion, but should he miss out again, expect a loose forward from the Vodacom Cup squad – perhaps Justin Downey or Mike Rhodes – to be handed the number 19 shirt this weekend.

Cool 😀
This is good news… Will be going to Coke Cola park to watch this one.
Fantastic.
I actually expected this, good news nonetheless
Aha ! So my little guilt trip worked at last
Great news this one
Very good news this. 😎
Makes much more sense for him to play in the S14 than attend a training camp.
@Farlington (Comment 2) : me too. do you think any lions supporters pitch ?
Would really like to see Murray back at 13 and Mvovo on the bench. Not likely though, knowing Plum though :/
