More injury clouds for Sharks

The brutally physical game against the Blues would appear to have taken its toll on the Sharks team, with a number of players nursing bumps and bruises as the Bulls game looms.

Most serious of these is JP Pietersen, who appears to have a cartilage tear in his knee. As reported yesterday, the Bok winger will definitely not make the Bulls clash and is probably highly doubtful for the remaining games against the Stormers and Western Force as well. Other key backs to be in doubt at this stage are Riaan Swanepoel and (alarmingly) Ruan Pienaar, although it is hoped that both will be fit enough to play at Loftus.

Up front, things look a little better with only WIllem Alberts in a bit of pain – also something that should hopefully blow over in time for him to take his place on Saturday. Queering the pitch somewhat, though, is the news that both Keegan Daniel and Ryan Kankowski are likely to come back into the selection frame this weekend. Despite sensationalist rubbish in all the usual places about Kankowski being out for the rest of the season, Sharksworld had it on good authority that he’d only be out for 3-4 weeks and it looks like we were spot on.

Assuming Alberts is passed fit, though, it would take a brave man to drop him for Kankowski on current form.

  • It’s not Ruan’s knee or foot is it??

Alberts deserves to start, it is hard to believe he is the same player at the Lions last year.

  • let’s just hope we don’t end up with a seriously weakened Sharks XV squad too…

  • Just hoping we won’t be subjected to another performance by the rather inferior Strauss…Please Swaan pull through boyeeeeeeee.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 3) : I think at most Strauss seems to be a decent Currie Cup player but he doesn’t seem to have the aptitude for Super 14

  • Let’s hope Ruan is OK. It looks like it could be his knee, because Goode had to take over the kicking against the Blues. Whether his poor kicking was from injury is anyone’s guess, though.

  • @rhineshark (Comment 6) : yes – not to be a prophet of doom, but we stand zero chance of a win in Tshwane without Pienaar and Alberts.

  • I see the Stormers are in talks with BJ,. can`t see why the sharks can`t be in talks with J de Vil!! I know the peolpe here in CT believe tha Jean will never play for another province but surely something short term can be on the cards?

  • @morneL (Comment 8) : Stormers can take Jannie and BJ can come home. It’s win win for the Sharks.

  • Sounds good to me, but we are still looking for a 12 and 13 combination that can catch the ball!!

  • @robdylan (Comment 7) : I have to agree with you. Those two have become our most valuable players.

  • @rekinek (Comment 13) : Think of Ruan’s injury in the light of the ‘Steve Meyer un-retiring’ story, instead of the ‘Kanko out for only 3-4 weeks’ story.

Maybe Sharksworld got the rumor wrong. 😆 😉

  • @Chaz (Comment 23) :

Nah only a Sharksgal when they play against any other team BUT the Stormers. 😛

My sister has “losie tickets” at Kingspark. We wanted to go to the Stormers vs Bulls game in Newlands but were sold out so quickly. Now if Ryan is playing I should seriously think bout us going to Durban for that weekend!

  • @robdylan (Comment 19) : I saw you thoroughly enjoying Sharksworld being the only site to have the correct info regarding his injury.

Will teach us to show a little more faith in our Sharksworld arti’s.

    Keep it up boyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.

Now let’s get the scoop on Steve Meyer.

  • Comment 25, posted at 27.04.10 16:53:06 by FireTheLooser Reply

  • @robdylan (Comment 7) : Agree on that Rob, Without Ruan and Alberts our chances of a win are almost gone. Especially without Ruan as we will have Kanko, though would like to see Alberts start. 🙁

What will be left of our team after the Bulls game? We still need to play the Stormers. So many injuries coming now.

  • Will Ruans injury be all doom and gloom though? We have a decent replacement in Rory don’t you think? and a pretty good goal kicker in him too….

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 25) : ag, you win some and you lose some. My sauce has gone very quiet on the Meyer story. Need to go dig around again.

  • @SharksRTB (Comment 27) : did you see Plum’s comments about Rory?

Said “he was crap against the Lions and he won’t mind me saying so” 🙂 But yeah, the monkey seems to have learnt his lesson and was good against the Blues. Ruan’s our matchwinner, though and the side would definitely be worse off without him

  • @robdylan (Comment 29) : I agree that Ruan is indeed good, I will have him on my team sheet before Rory. But Rory will most propably NOT cost you the game? And I really think Rory is a more reliable goal kicker. But gamebreaker, definately Ruan.
