Smit crocked too?

Following on from our earlier story, it has emerged that John Smit may also miss out on this weekend’s game, having sustained a neck injury against the Bulls.

Smit maintains that Jonathan Kaplan’s failure to correctly police the scrum engage during Saturdays’ derby was responsible for him taking a hit at a bad angle – as a result, his neck is painful and he’ll be going for a precautionary scan.

With Bismarck du Plessis already ruled out until the Currie Cup at the earliest, losing Smit would be a real blow to the Sharks and would plunge them into crisis with two weeks of the Super 14 left to play. Sharks XV hooker Kyle Cooper broke his hand in the Vodacom Cup semi-final this weekend, leaving Craig Burden and the young Hannes Snyman as the only hooker options available to John Plumtree.

  • Not good news at all. Is Lambie’s head still attached? The Bulls tried their best to take it off for him!!

  • Mentioned this on the other thread. Hope it is just a strain and nothing serious. Even that though John wont start. If it was serious he would be feeling pain in the shoulders and pain going down the arm. My feeling it is a muscle spasm from a strain. Still must rest our captain for the bigger picture now for the Tri-Nations. Think John as played just about every game for 80min too. We need to rotate players much more during this long tourney to keep them fit and injury free.

  • @war1 (Comment 1) : 😆 Then they never did. Lambie was still superb under those big bombs they were sending his way 😆 What a talent we have in Lambie.

What is happening with Justin Botha? Read again now from someone on keo that he is doing fine after that accident. Read he is a class fh? Maybe need to get him in the CC to start playing.

  • @Puma (Comment 3) : He’s not even on Durban any more. He was no great shakes anyway and lost his contract after the accident. Whoever is feeding you that story is wrong… Maybe it’s his mom? 😉

  • @Puma (Comment 3) : Lambie was cleary targeted and the bulls should have been penalised. I think they did rattle him, he dropped that cross kick that resulted in van den heever scoring the bulls 2nd try

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) : sorry – that might have come across as a bit harsh.

What I’m trying to get at is that I’m getting a little tired about all these rumours about some supposed “superstar” youngster languishing on the club scene in Durbs, or in the Academy. I investigate every one pretty thoroughly and I’m afraid there’s little substance to any of them.

We need to face facts… Monty Dumond, right now, is the best flyhalf we have at the Sharks. I still have some hope that Guy Cronje and Pat Lambie step up and grow into the role, but outside of that, there’s simply nothing. Back to drawing board we go.

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) : Okay, just someone yesterday on keo said he is doing well after the op. So who then for FH?

  • @Ekkies XV (Comment 7) : No doubt about that. With out those players we are a goner. Really was looking forward to this game tioo. Just far too many injuries now.

  • @robdylan (Comment 8) : I agree Rob.
Against the Bulls I knew we`d get close cause Sharks loves upsets at Floptus, but I`m afraid for some reason the Sharks don`t ” get up ” for the Stormers.
Add to this the fact that we have so many injuries right now, our season is done and condemned already and the shape the Stormers
are in at the moment . . . it could be a record breaking score against us this weekend.
