The Free State side recorded an ultimately convincing 30-20 over KwaZulu Natal at the Under 18 Craven Week in Welkom yesterday.
A key figure in the Free State win was inside centre Paul Jordaan who, according to reports, has been contracted by the Sharks and will move to Durban once he has matriculated from Grey Kollege. Another Grey and Free State player who continues to impress at this level is namesake Niell Jordaan, a 104kg number 8 who has been compared to Pierre Spies, although he apparently models his game on Irishman Jaime Heaslip.
This Jordaan was offered a R60 000 bursary to attend the Sharks Academy earlier this year when he was chosen as Player of the Tournament at the Kearsney festival. It’s not clear at this stage whether he has accepted this offer, or will stay in Bloemfontein to play for the Cheetahs instead.
For KZN, flyhalf Duncan Campbell and inside centre Patrick Howard caught the eye, although for the second game in a row, Campbell’s boot seemed to let him down at crucial stages.

This game was on SS1, I just missed it. 🙁 By the time I switched over, it was already finished 🙁
i watched it and stupid errors cost the young sharks
no 12 howard is a future star 10 was good and a few others
there is great youngsters up and comming in durban
the best 10 in natal right now is not at the tourney anyhows , nor the best 9
maritzburg college no 9 is best srcummy by a mile and big and strong
sp to the young sharks top 10 broke his leg in the glenwood/college match a few weeks ago
infact the kid i talk of is probably the most highly rated schoolboy 10 in the country
Stefan Ungerer is the 9 and 10 Fred Zeilinga , zeilinger sadly broke his leg against college , but this kids a future super star , a natural runnig flyhalf with a great boot amd hits the gaps beautifully
ungerer a little like a young joost type scrummy and very fast and strong
@sharks_lover (Comment 3) : did you get my email?
no
@sharks_lover (Comment 5) : ok well, let me spell this out, then… I get a little miffed when you copy original articles off my site and paste them on rugby-talk without any credit.
I get VERY miffed when I get banned on said website for pointing out the mistake.
ok firstly i was doing my own and got busy at work and honestly did forget to add ur name as i rushed to complete.
2ndly after going back on a few days later as i have not been on much because of the world cup i saw the error and since then deleted the post
and it was one article not articles
lastly i knew f’all about banings , but again i guess comming back here is always shit
ban me no problem
i know the truth , dioubt you would believe , anyhows delete me cherio
, no need to be back here with all its issues
I thought this was a good competitive game… Looks like KZN schools are getting their act together. Free State have always been the powerhouse of Craven Week but the Baby Sharkies gave it a good go… This bodes well for the future. The present, in terms of the seniors – the manne, just needs to be “All shook up” a little bit…
@HG (Heavens Game – not the sponsor) (Comment 8) : HG is that you?? 😯
@sharks_lover (Comment 7) : dude – if anyone is causing issues, it’s your mate GBS banning me for simply posting a link to the original article. I can understand a slip-up, but in that case, be prepared to make it right… don’t hide behind banning people.
Do as you see fit… I’m actually pretty tired of the drama anyway. I’m not going to ban you because I’m not that petty (and doing so isn’t going to stop you copying articles from the site anyway). I really don’t think it’s completely unreasonable to ask for a simple credit when you do, though… we would always extend the same courtesy.
@HG (Heavens Game – not the sponsor) (Comment 8) : I think a lot of it has to do with Glenwood hauling out the chequebook and populating their team with the best Afrikaner stock money can buy 🙂
the Green Machine seems to provide the bulk of all the KZN Craven Week teams these days.
@Pokkel (Comment 9) : Yes. It is me. I was instructed to make a slight change so as not to cause confusion with the sponsors… I thought Sharkie fans would have more of the Grey stuff to realise that I am not a sponsor but a somewhat subversive attemptor of contribution to this here fine site, but it seems I am eminently in error 😉
Out of respect and being a noob on Sharksworld, I enthusiasticly complied !!! 😉
Rules are rules and all that, but I promise to slate anything other than black and white r green and gold with as much vigour as elsewhere…
Did I say “slate”… Naughty, naughty – I will constructively discuss 😉
@robdylan (Comment 11) : Blaady Grasshoppers… But at least they seem to be placing more stock in continuing with good rugby and sporting traditions than the horseflies…
We’re we beaten by our B-team again… 😈
@Charlie (Comment 14) : Yeah, they may as well redraw silly, simplistic geographical boundaries and include the Vrystaat into the Kingdom of Kwazulu… Problem solved.
Bugger.
Niell Jordaan has signed for the tin-ears.
@HG (Heavens Game – not the sponsor) (Comment 13) : I’m a horsefly, I’m a horsefy, I’m a horsefly till I die…
But I’d rather be a horsefly than…
@HG (Heavens Game – not the sponsor) (Comment 17) : I’m a pebble, I’m a pebble
I’m a pebble from Boys High
But I’d rather be a pebble than a…
🙂
@robdylan (Comment 18) : Red, Black, White… Colleddggg… (Yawn!!). Sheezus, now that has to be the most unimaginative warcry… Those chaps in sleepy hollow not noted for their creativity…
And then you have those girlies in white, with the fleur de…, and their “Flower of Hilton”…. I kid you not.
And then the Botter’s Hill Boys, with their renditions of Shosholoza… Actually quite good, them…
Good for the Sharks the buying and all
@robdylan (Comment 16) : I think we have enough big loosies for now 😉
