If rumours are to be believed, Steve Meyer has rolled his ankle in training and will be relegated to the bench for tonightβs game against the Pumas. It is probable that Monty Dumond will get the opportunity to show his worth by getting his first start of the Currie Cup season.
Revised Sharks team:
15. Louis Ludik
14. JP Pietersen
13. Stefan Terblanche (Capt)
12. Patrick Lambie
11. Lwazi Mvovo
10. Monty Dumond
9. Charl McLeod
8. Keegan Daniel
7. Michael Rhodes
6. Jacques Botes
5. Alistair Hargreaves
4. Steven Sykes
3. Wiehahn Herbst
2. Craig Burden
1. Patric Cilliers
Replacements:
16. Kyle Cooper
17. Eugene van Staden
18. Ross Skeate
19. Willem Alberts
20. Rory Kockott
21. Steve Meyer
22. Andries Strauss

the coaching staff have been talking alot about piet lindeque, this would have been a good opportunity to give him a chance, even off the bench
Surely it’s just Plum giving Monty a start?
Nothing too wrong with Monty!!!! π
Bit unlucky, was hoping to see Meyer shine against the Puma’s… Oh well, atleast mcLeod retains his position meaning Dumond will actually get the ball… Sharks by 20.
I have no probs with Monty starting this match, he is a creative playmaker and this is an opportunity to see how he clicks with the backline for a full game, if it is an injury or just a shot for Monty, cool with it either way…
@war1 (Comment 1) : Would have been nice; but Strauss offers cover at 12 and 13 – if Lambie had got injured we couldn’t expect Lindeque to play 12. Or does he have experience at 12? Rob?!
go monty !
I have to say since Charl McLeod is scrummie the Sharks backline moves dude! I think he gets the ball out quicker than our Springbok scrummies.
@Uli (Comment 8) : agreed, kockott is good, but tends to hold onto the ball a bit too much for my liking…
@Uli (Comment 8) : @Mole (Comment 9) : kockott ain’t springbok scrummie, we only have / had one.
@MerckZ (Comment 2) : no, the official team announcement had steve meyer at 10
@war1 (Comment 11) : I guess, but if rumours are to be believed, then maybe he’s had a rethink? Either way, I’m happy. Think Monty deserves a crack.
@war1 (Comment 11) : Steve Meyer was announced as the starting flyhalf, but we are to believe he hurt his ankle..
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 10) : Welldone there mate, you want a noddy badge? π
I was talking in terms of the Currie Cup, ie Kockott vs McLeod…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 13) : look at the post i was replying to, I did read the article!
@MerckZ (Comment 12) : Plum NEVER changes his mind, unless he is forced to is what I’ve come to believe
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 13) : maybe he has second thoughts about retirement
@Mole (Comment 14) : ya sure, I’m a badge collector π
Alright, so with Alberts returning tonight, he is obviously going to start next week. Who will be dropped? Rhodes has stepped up and Id like to see more of him. Daniel’s and Botes have been playing well…. Its a tough one…
Anybody going to keep us up to date with the score?
@SharksRTB (Comment 19) : what time does the game start?
@Mole (Comment 18) : Take a look at the composition of the Cheetahs forwards, and then you will get an idea of who will start…
8) Alberts
7) Rhodes
6) Botes
Bench: Daniel
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 20) : 19:00 I believe…
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 20) : 7pm
Sharks to win by 20 – 30, if not, then this is a poor result… The Pumas will be fired up, but as I said earlier in the week, if we approach this as a test match, play percentage rugby and heavy focus on the set-piece then we will crush the life out of them, there is no point in going into this match to play with expression, win the game first then let all hell break loose, we need a structured game in order to be better prepared for The Cheetahs who rely heavily on the set-piece…
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 22) : @Mole (Comment 23) : thanx
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 24) : this should be a game for Bonus point and getting a nice points difference. and there is no excuse for the Sharks not to do it.
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 21) : Going to go head-to-head with a competent loose trio… Lets hope we can stop them from being our boggey team!!
@Mole (Comment 26) : Yep yep…
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 25) : yep yep…
@Mole (Comment 26) : are cheetahs loosing exclusivity on this one
I haven’t read the comments but it seems to me as if Monty has thrown some toys OR Plum is playing games.
I would think if a guy is injured then you take him out of the game and let him rest, you don’t move him to the bench.
What is the back story here?????????????????????
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 30) : But do we have any other flyhalf?
Maybe Steve is just a cover on the bench and wont play at all if not required?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 31) : Stef is known to cover if needed.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 30) : There is always doubt when something like this springs up, Monty can play a good game, and whatever the reason for him playing, lets hope for his sake that he steps up, but this is not the match to vindicate the coach… Playing against the Pumas should not bring much of a challenge, when dominating the set-piece is concerned… I was hoping that it was a simple switch, hopefully nothing more, but Plum does come across as a set in stone kinda guy… Interesting…
I picked the Sharks by 38, they better do it no matter who plays where π
Monty has been at the sharks LOYALLY this whole year, yet Meyer still got the start in the No10 black&white jersey. in my opinion meyer shud of had to play his way into the team!
Aah, Megatron’s favourite player, Monty Dumond!! π π
Monty will do it for us!
To quote Jeremy Clarkson:
Some say he should`ve been the no 1 flyhalf for us this season.
What time is the game? 7?
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 35) : A little unfair granted, but if you have a player that at Perpignan (spelling??) was pushing Carter for the starting berth then he obviously has some skill… The more game time the better IMO..
@klempie (Comment 38) : Think so yes.

Wonder who`s gonna do the updating for us?
and if we`re allowed to ask questions . . .
Maybe he can turn skype on, add all of us and then we can have some pictures as well !! π
@Mole (Comment 39) : Carter’s wasn’t exactly at his best during his time in France, especially his kicking was awfull.
@Original Pierre (Comment 40) : Who are you talking about? π
@Original Pierre (Comment 37) : all we know he’s name is …
@Original Pierre (Comment 40) : Im doing the updates tonight..
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 43) : We do? π
@war1 (Comment 1) : Lindeque is playing for the U19’s tonight at 5pm against the Griffons
@klempie (Comment 45) : it’s stig of course – he speaks Italian as well.
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 35) : I’ve been a loyal supporter all my life, doesn’t mean I should be playing at 10.
I’d have put Lambie at 10 rather. Monty is safe, solid and unspectacular. But the future of the Sharks is with Lambie.
@Baldrick (Comment 48) : And move him for the second time in two weeks? Way to unsettle a player, only to move him back to fullback next week.. Or even better, get him closer to the ball and play him at 9?!?!?!
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 47) : I’m so lost right now. π³
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 43) : What bothers me is that our commentator for tonight has an avatar that almost makes me think he`s a bull supporter . . .
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 44) : Thanx a million we appreciate it!
Tonights` rugby is gonna be difficult . . . “laptop to the left of me, tv to the right” . . .
@Original Pierre (Comment 51) : When did I tell you not to ask questions? π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 49) : now that both Frans and Ruan are gone we need to find a new player to shuffle around to keep up with the Sharks tradition.
We are already missing foreign flyhalf … π
@klempie (Comment 50) : just pretend you’re not π
You watch Tope Gear and the way Carkson introduces Stig :
It always has :
Some say …… (sth ridiculous) and
All we know he’s name is Stig!
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 54) : should be Clarkson π³
@Original Pierre (Comment 51) : I am no Bull supporter and because of that comment I will be changing my avatar as soon as I find smething to replaace it with!! lol!
hello week-end is upon us π
Go Monty
@klempie (Comment 52) : i think he meant RF – his shark is the wrong colour. You really lost
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 54) : If The Stig is commentating the game then I don’t think we’ll understand what the hell is going on because he won’t understand either! π
Is the Sharks game on tele π³
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 58) : Ohhhhhhhhhh.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 56) : leave ur avatar its great π
@klempie (Comment 59) : no no no – the Stig should play flyhalf β
@chaz (Comment 60) : No Chaz.. the WP game is the televised game tonight..
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 63) : I’m all for stig to play flyhalf.. but I have heard that Michael Shumacher is a decent soccer player. maybe he has a boot on him?!?!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 64) : ok thanks π₯
@rekinek (Go Klose!) (Comment 63) : Will the others understand his gameplay though? π
@klempie (Comment 67) : that does not matter at all – the stig will catch the ball, turn the gas on, avoid the tackling players by proper handling of corners, scores and …. he may have a problems with conversions though.
Well thats just great can’t meyer off my starting XV πΏ
gee what timeis the game to start i thought we could change right up until the start of the 1st game π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 56) : Thanks man I appreciate you changing your icon thing. Ask Morne for some suggestions π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 65) : that would take care of conversions – the aspect I was bit worried about
@Original Pierre (Comment 70) : Morne has some classics hey.. I will be looking for something more along the lines of being a Shark supporter..
@Mole (Comment 39) : If he is/was that good then he should have no trouble winning his way into the starting XV.
@Baldrick (Comment 48) : No it doesnt, but u and me r supporters, not Shark players. Dumond has been part of the Sharks for a while and if he hasn’t done anything drastically wrong he should be given a chance to show his worth!
@Jarson (Comment 34) :
I have not made my picks yet. π―
Gonna do it NOW!!!!!!!!!
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 74) : DONE! π
Amazing I,m not even just being pessimestic but plum is a forwards coach and thats all ,Just when the sharks look good he makes a change ,the whole problem is he changes players around to much and the team needs to play together more and he changes the combination that needs to play together the most and lets be honest people rate monty but they,ve got no top performance as evidence his not a top level flyhalf so why don,t they start looking for another flyhalf bring some guys from club level in
I am hoping for someone to give us an update on how well Monty played at pivot, based on what I read from the live updates, he did not distribute well, as for tactical kicking, I find this concerning from both Monty and Steve Meyer, we cannot play percentage rugby if our tactical kicking is poor, these guys need to be upskilled in this department, Monty plays with flair, but I rate Steve Meyer is a more complete Flyhalf, better vision, better distribution and control over quality possession, but his tactical kicking is poor to average… Zvision ; I am not sure behind the chop and change from Plum, I do agree that he is a forwards coach, and I don’t think the chemistry in management is perfect, but based on The Bulls game, I saw a varied game plan which was pleasing… I do hear that we genuinely benched Meyer as a precaution, I’d be interested to know the facts, but The Sharks are very good with their propaganda…
I am also a bit irritated that they brought on Willem Alberts so soon, we rely too heavily on our strike runners ball carrying abilities when they are match fit (Deysel and Alberts) – I think our boy Rhodes deserved to stay on longer, and I think we should’ve had different tactics – play from the set-piece more, but I obviously couldn’t watch the game, and ultimately it is all water under the bridge as we did walk away with 5 points, I just hope we are more structured and settled against The Cheetahs…
