After a rather low key Currie Cup weekend, where the main event didn’t live up to expectations, and the Lions claimed their first win over top opposition, we see a very different Team of the Week come to the fore.
For the first time we have no Bulls players in the XV, and another first is that the Lions share the majority with the Sharks. Who would have thought that?
Congratulation to Elton Jantjes who made the starting line up, and same to Stefan Terblanche, who had a cracking game over the weekend. Lwazi Mvovo, Jaco Taute and Anton van Zyl remain unchallenged in their respective positions.
Team of the week:
15. Jaco Taute (Lions)
14. Deon van Rensburg (Lions)
13. Stefan Terblanche (Sharks)
12. Doppies la Grange (Lions)
11. Lwazi Mvovo (Sharks)
10. Elton Jantjes (Lions)
9. Janno Vermaak (Lions)
8. Duane Vermeulen (WP)
7. Keegan Daniel (Sharks)
6. Jacques Botes (Sharks)
5. Anton van Zyl (WP)
4. Ross Skeate (Sharks)
3. Brock Harris (WP)
2. Tiaan Liebenberg (WP)
1. Coenie Oosthuizen (Cheetahs)
Lions – 5
Sharks – 5
WP – 4
Cheetahs – 1

Hi Richard, do you accept the teams via Twitter?
VRYSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT.
We were so crap we dont even deserve the one palyer in the team of the week.
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 1) :
Yes Oubaas..
I actually got a team in vie twitter this week for the first time..
@Loosehead (Comment 2) :
Coenie seems to be a fan favourite, he is in the team for a while now..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) : Perfect, it was my alter ego SportBilly101!
I forgot to add it into the article, but the try of the weekend according to our authors is the Elton Jantjes try that he chipped and collected (Carlos Spencer-like).
Congrats young man.. you are fast becoming a Lions Legend..
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 5) :
I see.. I would like more people to send it through on a weekly basis.. sometimes the response is a little low..
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 5) : is that you? 🙂 Cool
Well morning everyone its nearly week-end time and its Rugby
Well for me i’m glad that the Bulls arn’t what they always are so it gives our team a crack at the CC
and to see the LIONS in there along with the SHARKS 😳 well thats good news they really played well saturday 🙂
But the BEST team is our Sharkie BOYS they are all great players and do me proud
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : Actually it was Deon van Rensburg’s try, great little chip with the outside of the left foot, was Deon running through that collected and dotted down.
@Greg (Comment 10) :
Oh shit.. my bad.. Well it was created by the little magician..
I apologise..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : The Lions need something positive.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 11) : No problem, it was amagic moment, it had Carlos Spencer written all over it! Did you listen to the MOM interview?
@chaz (Comment 9) : Chaz, come on out the closet already, we know you are really a Lions supporter 😆 😆
@Greg (Comment 13) :
I didnt watch the interviews after the game.. What did he have to say?
@Greg (Comment 14) : 👿 😈 no my friend not in my living days me a born and bred indurban girl and me a Shark all the way
😉
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 15) : He talked about how influential Carlos has been, how they work together one on one after the scheduled training has been completed. He specifically mentioned that Carlos had noticed a weakness in passing to the left, and how they were working on it.
Duane Vermeulen is so over-rated. How can an 8th man have no linking and passing game?
@chaz (Comment 16) : 😆 😆
@Greg (Comment 19) : gee did u rally think 🙄 and i feel for u shame the Snoils need supporters 😥 😉
@robdylan (Comment 8) : Yip.. You answer the Sharksworld tweets?
When will the Sharks team be announced? I thought that Wednesday lunch time was the deadline?
@Loosehead (Comment 22) : True… Probably waiting till last minute for Alberts… Have a feeling Kockott will start – need a solid kicker in a game like this – Lambies stats not the greatest…
@Mole (Comment 23) : 80% not good enough in last 2 games?
@Big Fish (Comment 18) : Stampkar, willie pass nie… 😈
Please, how in the name of Glod can we possibly want Rory to start ahead of Charl?
We can win if we play the flowing game we have thus far: Lambie and Charl need to start as halfbacks.
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 24) : Look, he has the talent, but I get the feeling that he tends to rush his kicks.. He had a fantastic run at the U20 WC, and will no doubt be a class act in the future. But it cannot hurt to have a solid backup if things do go wrong. There where a couple standard kicks last week that where missed and in a crunch game like saturdays we cannot afford to miss 2/3 points – De Waal slots pretty much everything, and with such a solid defence, 2/3 points could be the difference…
@Greg (Comment 17) :
You can definitely see the influence he has had.. Its about time someone from this country learns how to play like that.. Unpredictable is a weapon on its own.
@Big Fish (Comment 26) : I rate McLeod head and shoulders above Kockott – read above for explanation..
@Mole (Comment 23) :
I like what you have done to your avatar.. Fitting..
@Mole (Comment 27) : Give me a Lambie/McCleod combo at the moment and a 80% strike rate anytime..
WDW is a donkey. One of the better kickers in the game I reckon but WP can keep him thank you very much.
My thoughts:
Stefan above Murray?? I disagree of course.
Vermaak I`m not sure about either. I got the feeling the Lions won despite him and not because of him. He almost looked like Kockett out there, going himself all the time, then not in position to pass to Jantjies when Lions were on the attack and needed quick front foot ball.
Have a problem with Coenie Oosthuizen as well. Sure he`s in top form at the moment, but he should`ve been Cited for that punch he threw towards the end of the game!
@Big Fish (Comment 26) : Gary Glod?
No Rob, you know which Glod. 😆
Agree that Vermaak was poor, and not yet convinces that Coenie does enough in the tight: awesome in the loose though – reminds me of a young Ollie.
Couldnt find an article about the U21’s this week – anyone have any idea how Cooper played?
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 31) : You do agree that kicks will be extremely important on Sat? I completely agree with you on the McLeod/Lambie combo BTW.
@Mole (Comment 35) : Absolutely but not a reason for Rory to take the field.. The bench is just fine for Rocket.
Not sure a teamm of the week has any merit if it doesn’t list Patrick Lambie… 😉
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 36) :
Agreed.. let him make his big impact in the last 2 minutes..
Yip that’s about how I would have picked them…
