When rock bottom Tasman beat Hawke’s Bay in the opening game of Round 3, one could be forgiven to think that the results this year, resembled more the NRL than the ITM.
Round 3 games were once again difficult to predict. The tables ‘Top Four’ now comprising Southland, Canterbury, Northland, and Taranaki. They all scored impressive wins, albeit in different styles.
This week’s match highlight will be Wellington v Waikato at the ‘Cake Tin’. The winner will keep in touch with the competition leaders, cementing a spot in the ‘Top Four’.
However in reality all eyes will be on Tasman’s trip to Christchurch, not so much for the rugby they will play against Canterbury, but more for the potential sighting of a one – Sonny Bill Williams.
The country will be a buzz with a SBW performance, be it good, bad or ugly – if he fronts.

Table Movement
When I look to outline the points table, I will split it into three parts. The ‘Top Four’ Semi Finalists (Teams placed 1st to 4th). Those ‘Destined for First Division Status – Playing with the Big Boys in 2011’ (Teams placed 5th to 7th), and the teams ‘Second Division Bound in 2011’ (Teams placed 8th to 14th).
The table this week sees a real log jam in the top half, with no less than five teams on ten points. Southland move to the top of the table and Counties Manukau drop out of the top four on points differential. Those sides on the slide this week include Waikato who slip from 3rd to 8th, however Northland go in the other direction from 8th to 3rd.
Top Four – Semi Finalists
1. Southland (13)
2. Canterbury (12)
3. Northland (10)
4. Taranaki (10)

Round 4 Match Previews
I will do my best to update the team lists as they become available.
This week I have included the team’s form, which hopefully will give us more of an insight into correctly predicting the match outcomes.
Game 22 North Harbour v Otago Prediction: Otago by 1-5 points
This looms as a typical ITM round opener with an upset on the cards. Tasman rock bottom on the table last week won their first game of the season in the Round 3 opener last Thursday morning, and I predict Otago will do the same here against North Harbour.
Craig Dowd has selected Malakai Ravulo to start at openside flanker in place of Tom Chamberlain, Chamberlain drops to the bench. The famous Botica name is revived as Ben Botica gets his first chance to start, he replaces Michael Harris in the pivot position.

Otago coaches, Phil Mooney and David Latta, have made one change to the run on XV from the team that played Wellington last weekend at Carisbrook. New Zealand U21 hooker Liam Coltman comes into the starting line-up replacing Peter Merrielees. On the reserves bench prop Halani Aulika replaces Blair Young.

Game 23 Taranaki v Bay of Plenty Prediction: Taranaki by 1-5 points
Taranaki have well and truly got their season back on the tracks with two good wins in recent weeks. They will face a desperate BOP side that will realise that too many more close losses will terminate their chances of a ‘Top 7’ finish in 2010.

Game 24 Tasman v Canterbury Prediction: Canterbury by 20-25 points
Tasman travel to Christchurch with absolutely nothing to lose. They will arrive in the midst of people saying in the street, ‘Is he playing, …is he ?’. If the All Blacks have to deal with the John Smit factor this weekend at Soccer City. Tasman has to deal with the Sonny Bill Williams factor at ITM Stadium. Good luck, I know who I have my money on !

Game 25 Counties-Manukau v Manawatu Prediction: Counties-Manukau by 10-15 points
Both teams will have mixed emotions going into this match. Counties-Manukau will be keen to try and get back up from the disappointment of not lifting the Shield for the first time in their short history. Manawatu on the other hand will be trying to put the humiliation they felt last week out of their mind, but the effects of being pole axed by 70 points will be hard to shake for the men from Palmerston North.

Game 26 Wellington v Waikato Prediction: Wellington by 1-5 points
Definitely the match of the round with Wellington hitting their straps at the ‘House of Pain’ last week. Waikato will be keen to keep their discipline after going down to 13 men for fighting last week against Taranaki. They will also need / want to start a lot better after last week letting Taranaki out to a healthy first half lead at the interval in Hamilton.

@KSA Shark © (Comment 128) : Dont overtake me 😈
Wellington 26 – 14 Waikato
60 minutes
@KSA Shark © (Comment 128) :
You are definitly finding form in this comp..
I can see you in the top 10 in a matter of 3 weeks..
I hope there is no more scorng in this game, the margin is spot on for me right now..
Waikato penalty.. misses
Wellington 26 – 14 Waikato
70 minutes
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 132) :
i need score from Waikato.
My Margin is 4
This is game is getting real messy, exactly what I want..
6 minutes to go.. 12 the margin
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 135) :
please tell me Waikato have scored a converted try. 😆
This is awesome play now.. end to end stuff.. huge tackles coming in..
No score yet.. 2 minutes to go..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 137) : and then Waikato score? 🙄
The hooter goes.. last scrum to Wellington..
FINAL SCORE

Win point, Margin point and Bonus point..
Coming back with a bang..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 141) :
only consolation I have is that you are sharing the BP. 😉
4 from 5 for me so far. 😎
3/5 Hope I manage 2 get tomorrows games spot on 😛
@KSA Shark © (Comment 142) :
At least it is some form of catching up after missing the first 3 games..
@Jarson (Comment 143) :
I see the one game is only on Monday?
Okay later guys. Lunch time is over back to work for me.
Okay.. thats my ITM Cup coverage for the day..
Gonna grab some lunc, get to the Tank and cover the U19 game..
See you guys on the other thread..
And now I’m 27th again 👿 I’m destined to be last 😥
Im surprised to be back in 17th.. How did I manage that?!
I’m now 3rd in my one NRL pool, 2 points behind 2nd and 14 points behind 1st 😛
Fulltime
Auckland 26 – 13 Northland
@Jarson (Comment 126) : hv and aprroved sorry it took so long 😳 had things to do and thanks for sending emails so far we are 4 but hope some will join maybe HH Reniek etc

Starting to move up slowly from 24 to 21 and now 20 not so bad for a lady
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 147) : @Jarson (Comment 151) : thanks guys for the updates
@Jarson (Comment 151) :
5 from 6 this weekend for me. 😎
@KSA Shark © (Comment 155) :
I went from 0 from 3, to 3 from 6 and back in the top half of the log.. Need to build on this. Hoping for a 4th win tomorrow, which would get me my 4 from 7 target.
Well done KSA, good comeback weekend for you.. Now that you have caught up, you can leap frog some spots next week..
Southland 23 – 20 Hawke’s Bay
FULL TIME
@KSA Shark © (Comment 155) :
6 from 7 dude!! And you jump up a log place.. (Sorry Jarson)
Oh hell no 😥 I’ve gone from bad to worse 😥
@Jarson (Comment 159) :
Sorry buddy.. its a long season though.. make your comeback!!
5 out of 7 in the your predictions HH.. well done!!
Upping that average!
I got 4/7 and apparently that’s not nearly good enough. Got to get a GSP somewhere 😈
@Jarson (Comment 162) :
I also managed to get 4 out 7, which was a great turnaround after 0 from 3 in the first 2 days..
Grand Slam points are going to be the decider here, if anybody can string 7 games together, they will most likely lead..
Almost cant wait for the next round 😛 . I also made my 1st PSL picks today.
@Jarson (Comment 164) :
With the PSL, ITM, NRL, Premier League and Currie Cup, there are going to be so many results coming through every weekend..
@Jarson (Comment 164) :
Do play every single tournament on SB?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 166) : Almost, I’m not going to play the EPL and I might quit during the PSL (they are to long). I am also playing the F1 which aint to far from over now.
Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
I’m begining to enjoy ITM. 😉
27 Sandshark 16.00
28 Jarsonx 15.75
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 158) :

@KSA Shark © (Comment 168) : Hahaha 👿 It’s far from over 😈
@Jarson (Comment 167) :
I have this urge to enter every single competition..
They are long, but I relly enjoy it.. I hope they bring out a Champions League Soccer one out again..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 168) :
Making up good ground there oubaas.. Its going all the way to the wire this one..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 171) : And a Sevens tournament, I think that will be cool.
@Jarson (Comment 173) :
A seven one is not likely to work as the games are not scheduled, they are decided by way of knockout which would leave very little time to come and make picks..
But it would have been cool
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 174) : I havent actually given much thought about picking, but you’re right. It could be a nightmare.
Morning lads
I’m pleased to report nailed 5 from 7 and dropped a spot on the log 21st to 22nd ! 😳
It is a long race …..could go either way….Top 10 never looks that far off ! 😎
Well done KSA…..nice form this weekend !
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 176) :

@Richard Ferguson (Comment 177) :
Cheers Rich
….wow whata match…had it all really …looking foirward to chatting about it tomorrow night …if we podcast it !
PS It did leave me with a smile on my face !
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 178) :
I would have smiled if it was my team who came from behind to win the match and take the Tri Nations..
Looing forward to the podcast tomorrow night, should have some interesting topics..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 179) :
Are we getting a format/list of topics this week ? 😕
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 180) :
It would be a good idea so we can somehow prepare something and not Um and Ah when we have to speak..
