Not a single Bull ….did they have the bye ! π
Cant really be upset with that now can we… 9/15 two thumbs up! π
@Mole (Comment 2) :
And the reasn two of the Sharks aren’t there is because they got injured in the 28th minute of the game..
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 1) :
And that’s for the second week in a row.. Good run they going through!!
Not one WP player?? π―
I can’t believe Nick Koster was not considered!! π
@wpw (Comment 5) :
He was made Captain of the Kakkest Team of the Week.. β
Hehehe π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : Praat jy van WP ?
@Mole (Comment 2) : and the only Cheetah on the list is going to be in black and white next year.
@Charlie (Comment 8) :
Net so Charlie!!
I love how Bismarck justed brushed off, like in ‘Shoe, go away you damn fly’
@Jarson (Comment 11) : brushed off Koster
And you wonder why Sharks supporters are disliked so much! π
You guys are no different from arrogant Bulls supporters. Oh wait, there IS a difference, at least their team wins trophies!! π
@wpw (Comment 13) : eina jou koei!!! π
@wpw (Comment 13) : no need for name-calling, we all know you have closet full of Shark-underpants! π
@Ice (Comment 15) :I also presume that your WP one might have holes in…just like the WP’s defence against the Sharks last weekend! π
@wpw (Comment 13) : π π
@Ice (Comment 16) : hehehe π
Richard, did you have footage of every game? Maybe this should read televised team of the week π
@frikkie se broer (Comment 19) : nail on the head Frikkidingeling se boet!
Ice
Laasweek toe se jy ek ‘redeneer soos n passer’. π
So much for name calline nuh?? π
@frikkie se broer (Comment 19) : It would be difficult to justify the Meyer Bosman and Bjorn Basson selections without actually seeing them play.
@wpw (Comment 21) : in essence, that does not qualify as “namecalling” π action-calling perhaps? Hehehe
@frikkie se broer (Comment 22) :
You cant really leave out a winger who scored three tries can you?
I can’t select a team of the week when I only saw half the teams play and most of the players usually gets selected from the winning teams…that makes it only a 1/4 of the players that played. But this one seems right. π
Bjorn scored 3 tries at loftus. You don’t need to see him do that to know he’s a flippin hero for doing it π
Leading try scorers:
Basson – 9 Griquas
Mvovo – 7 Sharks
Watts – 5 Pumas
Bondesio – 5 Leopards
Daniel – 5 Sharks
P Louw – 5 WP
Oosthuizen – 5 Cheetahs π
I can see this Watts fellow being snapped up by a bigger union soon!
Maybe the Cheetahs? He is quite talented! Anyone know how old he is?
@robdylan (Comment 26) : I’m sure his tries were amazing, and he probably deserves to be there, just saying there might be double standards when you cant compare players due to not seeing all of them
Basson a try-scoring machine

Hendrik CronjΓ©
Bloemfontein β Griquas, who appear on
course for a semifinal spot in this yearβs
Currie Cup, look set to break a try-scoring
record on the way.
Springbok wing Bjorn Basson needs only
two tries in the second round of the
tournament to equal the late Robert
Markram βs Griquas record of 11 tries in a
Currie Cup season.
Basson has scored nine tries in seven
games to date and can take another step
closer to the record in the match against
the Sharks in Durban on Friday night.
Rugby statistics are often misleading as
they don βt always tell the full story. But
Griquas backline coach AbrΓ© Minnie makes
the point that the nine tries by Basson is
certainly not a misleading statistic on the
wing βs attacking ability.
Bassonβs nine tries are two more than that
of Sharks flyer Lwazi Mvovo, followed by
five each by Pumas flyhalf Elgar Watts,
Leopards scrumhalf Michael Bondesio,
Sharks loose forward Keegan Daniel, WP
flanker Pieter Louw and Free State prop
Coenie Oosthuizen.
βBjorn has not just scored his tries by using
his pace, but by popping up in the right
positions and running good lines.
He has
now matured as a player after I identified
him as a future Springbok at under-21
level, β said Minnie.
He adds that Basson had to do more than
just finish for the majority of his nine tries.
βHis extraordinary individual skills came to
the fore in a number of the tries and he
had to work hard. His strong defence and
physical presence at the breakdowns is the
pleasing aspect of his game this year β itβs
something we have worked at very hard,β
said Minnie.
βBjorn is one of the best aerial players (to
pluck the ball out of the air from in front of
an opponent) and opponents are making
plans to neutralise him every week so that
he cannot compete for kicks. The pleasing
thing is that Bjorn then himself hatches a
plan to counter that. β
Minnie also has no doubt that Basson has
the pace to make it at Test level.
βHe showed that in the game against the
Blue Bulls when he scored that try in the
dying seconds. He beat Gerhard van den
Heever for pace. β
@frikkie se broer (Comment 30) : Basson and Mvovo would be a much better bet in the Bok team at the moment than Habana.
@Pokkel (Comment 31) : I agree, Habana seems to have completely forgotten (and not suddenly, since he’s been doing this for ages now) what the phrase ‘defensive line’ actually means… Don’t get me wrong, Habana is a legend and his experience is telling – he’s just off the boil (as most of our senior Boks are) and perhaps a fresh face with Habana’s pace would be a good thing for the Boks. Especially since we don’t have Aplon at the back – who may have depended on Habana’s experience to assist him in his positional play – but Frans; this could allow for a less experienced winger to be experimented with. But who are we kidding, creative experimentation demands imagination and half a point for an IQ – and PdV has neither.
Wow! All of those words just to agree Pokkel – I guess I have some pent-up frustration to deal with.
I also agree with my son though, Richard and Rob, there must be some concrete visible proof of a player’s performance that all have access to in order to include them in a “team of the week”. reputations and journalist’s reports may be of value, but they only go so far and we all know how unreliable most reputations are, not to mention the reliability of our journalists π
