The Sharks have received some good new on the injury front ahead of Saturdays’ crucial clash against the Cheetahs in Durban, with Keegan Daniel and Louis Ludik both likely to be available for selection.
The new for Ross Skeate is less good, though. The big second-rower confirmed via his Twitter site that he will undergo an operation to repair his torn groin and will be out of action for between 4 and 6 weeks.
While Ludik should be a reasonably solid bet to slot straight back in at fullback, John Plumtree will no doubt need to do a bit of backline shuffling in order to rediscover the magic that was so missing against the Pumas last Friday. Captain Stefan Terblanche will probably go back to outside centre, leaving the coach with the tricky decision about which of Dries Strauss or Riaan Swanepeol to select in the number 12 shirt. The loose forward combination will also be something of a headache, with Daniel and Ryan Kankowski in a straight shootout for the number 8 jersey. Flanks Jacques Botes and Willem Alberts have both been in great nick and it’s unlikely that Plum will want to disrupt that combination to find a spot for Daniel, who looks best at the back of the scrum anyway.
The Cheetahs, though, are struggling with a fair few niggles after their tough match against the Blue Bulls this past weekend. While as many as 8 of the first team did not train on Monday, it’s only lock Waltie Vermuelen who is confirmed out, while outside centre Rob Ebersohn is touch and go.

Daniel and Ludik will most probably play off the bench, or atleast I would have.
I would put Ludik at fullback, swannie at 12 and keegs on the bench
@war1 (Comment 2) : Agreed.
Some good news at last π
Sharks vs Cheetahs at ABSA Stadium, Durban
Referee: Pro Legoete
Assistant referees: Quinton Immelman, Reuben Rossouw
Television match official: Johann Meuwesen
Assessor: Thuso Mngqibisa
@war1 (Comment 4) : Is it not Pro who costed us a game against the Cheetahs?????
Who here likes crispy chicken skin?
@klempie (Comment 6) : Is that a trick question?
Why?
@Pokkel (Comment 7) : π
@Pink Ice (Comment 8) : Cos I ate some. π
Saved it for last. π
As tough as it is on Keagan, he should start on the bench for this one… If he comes in for anyone it must be Botes. Alberts and Kanko are certainties.
Ludick will walk back in at 15 IMO.. Stef to 13. Swannie to 12.
@Pink Ice (Comment 5) : ah crap. It was him indeed.
We’re in trouble, lads
@Pink Ice (Comment 5) : which is why I’m worried
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 11) : spot on.
Keegan 19, Ludik 15, Stef 13, Swannie 12
Rhodes 18, Dries 21, Zuks 22. Can we get rid of Pretorius, please? π
@robdylan (Comment 12) :
Didn’t Pro ref the Sharks vs WP game which you won?? π
All I remember is he reffed one of our recent games, not sure if it was the Sharks game though!! πΏ
@robdylan (Comment 14) : who would be flyhalf if lambie has to go off?
@wpw (Comment 15) : no that was lourens van der merwe, the same ref who reffed the sharks vs pumas game
@Pink Ice (Comment 5) : Mmmm Isn`t Pro the guy who came on for Kaplan when he had that curry tummy problem earlier this year?
Wonder what the odds for this match will be . . . π
@Original Pierre (Comment 18) : yip, it was (semi)pro… π
@war1 (Comment 16) : Dries
its of the topic a bit, but i heard that the Paarl Boys High Flyhalf, Gavin Hauptfleish will be joining the sharks next year. with him and the Glenwood boy at the academy, we should have a potent u/19 side… would be interesting to know from the current schoolboys from all over the country, who signed for the sharks next year…
@robdylan (Comment 12) : @war1 (Comment 13) : @Original Pierre (Comment 18) : okay..now I am worried, I have no trust in his judgement…
‘tricky situation’? Dries & Swannie hahahaha
@VanWilder (Comment 21) : yes, that one’s confirmed. Paarlbok rates the lad very highly.
We have a lot of promising flyhalves in the mini ranks. Just need to get the best ones through.
Problem is, Lambo is gonna be the Sharks 10 for the next decade, so these guys are definitely not all gonna stick around π
@Megatron (Comment 23) : Why do you think the Sharks bought Meyer Bosman and JLP for next year?? π
@Megatron (Comment 23) : De Wet Barry is the poor man’s Riaan Swanepoel
@robdylan (Comment 26) : π
seriously, something I’ve noticed about Swanno in the last few weeks is just how beautiful his pass is.
He has set up a pretty respectable number of tries in the last few games with a lovely long pass outside. That’s kind of what you want your 12 to do… not just run headlong into traffic all day.
@robdylan (Comment 28) : And he’s been good on defence.
Totally unrelated but does anyone know how S. Meyer and J. Deysel is recovering?
@Farlington (Comment 30) : Steve needs to have a second op in January and will miss the whole Super 15.
Not sure about Wollie. Will try find out
@robdylan (Comment 26) :
And yet DWB has 39 Bok caps, 2 x Currie Cup winners medals, 1 x Tri Nations medal, S12 Player of the Year in 2004.
What does Swannie have besides an extra 10 kgs around his waste?? π π
@robdylan (Comment 31) : Would really help to have Wolla back for the last 6 or 7 matches. Alberts has now got to be managed very well. Team wise this weekend i think stef at 13 dries 12 as per usual this season and ludik straight back at 15. Keegan will not start will play off the bench; this weekend that is.
@wpw (Comment 32) : That avatar is reaaaaaaaaaallly gonna bother me…
@wpw (Comment 32) : gee – obsessive much? Please don’t tell me you know all of those facts about De Wet just off the top of your head? π
Stalker.
You didn’t answer my question
@wpw (Comment 32) :
Lets rather not speculate about the extra weight around yours, Weigless Slimmer of the Year! π
@JJR (Comment 33) : well, we’re unfortunately not gonna have Wolla back this season, that’s for sure.
I got a message from him, BTW. Says he’s feeling strong and the rehab is going well.
@robdylan (Comment 31) : 6 to 7 matches of super 15…just to clarify.
@robdylan (Comment 37) : Yup…meant super 15 next year…sorry. Great to hear it is going well…hope he is pumping iron!!!! That is what i would be doing π
@robdylan (Comment 37) : wolla – deysel?
@Pokkel (Comment 25) : ek weet…just had to chuckle at what plum has to work with now ;)@robdylan (Comment 26) : de wet is BOK… π
@VanWilder (Comment 40) : Yes. Don’t worry, I don’t get it either… π
@robdylan (Comment 37) : Thanks Rob… I hope he comes back even stronger then before. I just hope he can stay injury free for a season or two, but I guess the way he plays that is unlikely.
@VanWilder (Comment 40) : si
@klempie (Comment 42) : this pet-names… π
@robdylan (Comment 44) : his a real gentlemen… (not on the field though) met him after a super 14 game at loftus(which we won) after we just bought him, geez what a nice guy.
@VanWilder (Comment 46) : I’ll tell you guys something very interesting. We can all thank Jean Deysel that this site is still going.
I met him in Durban last year at a time when I was having serious doubts about carrying on with the site, since the level of interest seemed to have dropped off significantly. He talked me into carrying on with it, cos he reckoned it’s a very important thing that we do here.
@robdylan (Comment 47) : thanx wolla!! really hope he can get rid of all the injuries. he should be close to higher honours if he can stick it out for a full season.
@robdylan (Comment 47) : Nice…thanks Wolla π
@robdylan (Comment 47) : Does he visit the site at all?
@robdylan (Comment 47) :
Do you know how many players actually read SW?
@Pokkel (Comment 50) : you’d be surprised how many of the guys do, from time to time
@robdylan (Comment 52) : Any that comment?
@Pink Ice (Comment 51) : I hear anecdotal evidence, and one or two of them are registered.
We have a current Sharks squad member playing our Fantasy League game, for one things π
@Pokkel (Comment 53) : we haven’t yet had a senior player making a comment here. One of the juniors has posted a comment or two.
@robdylan (Comment 54) : isnt that like cheating? π imagine him playing against a guy he picked in his team? “missing” the tackle so the player can score and get him bonus points?
any pakistan cricket players registered? π
@robdylan (Comment 55) : what about charlie?
@VanWilder (Comment 57) :
He has a split personality – does not count! π
@Pink Ice (Comment 58) : ag, his good… his REALLY good… π
@Pink Ice (Comment 58) : Tannie Ys, gaan staan voorie kaggel… πΏ
@Charlie (Comment 60) : wat??? Wat het ek gedoen?
@Pink Ice (Comment 61) : π
GO SHARKS !!!

@VanWilder (Comment 56) : he got around that by picking himself as his team captain π
@robdylan (Comment 64) : then it can only be wolla… π
@VanWilder (Comment 65) : no, it isn’t π
@war1 (Comment 4) : Oh no!!! How can we get stuck with Pro when the best ref in the Currie Cup is reffing Leopards vs Griquas…
@robdylan (Comment 47) : well thank u wolla and rob. This really is a quality site.
@RuckingFun (Comment 68) : we do our best to keep you entertained π
Ludik to start, Keegs of the bench, Stef to outside center, swanepoel to inside
