Adriaan Fondse has been given a rare break by Western Province for the match against Griquas at Newlands on Friday.

In the only change to the match 22 which beat the Pumas last weekend, De Kock Steenkamp switches roles with Adriaan Fondse. Steenkamp and Fondse play very similar games and the change will make little difference to the Province performance.

Lionel Cronjé’s hamstring injury has ruled him out until next week at the earliest and promising under 21 flyhalf Gary van Aswegen, who made his Currie Cup debut in Nelspruit last Friday, retains his spot on the replacements’ bench.

With Tiaan Liebenberg struggling to recover from torn ankle ligaments and in all likelihood out for the rest of the season, Deon Fourie again starts at hooker, with former Springbok Hanyani Shimange as reserve hooker.

With JC Krtizinger being comfortable at both tighthead and loosehead, the bench has an unfamiliar four three split amongst forwards and backs.
