Welcome to the team of the week following Round 12 of the ABSA Currie Cup.
I apologise for the article being so late this week, it’s almost time for the next weekend’s games to start, but I have been busy with exams.
We are very close to having a brand new backline, with only Francois Hougaard keeping his spot from last week. The Lions centre pairing has shown they are quite a combination as both Murray and la Grange make it into the team. The battle for the 11 jersey between Mvovo and Basson goes to the man with all the tries, having scored another 3 this week.
In the forwards we find the two form flanks of the tournament, Willem Alberts and Derick Minnie holding down their spots for 6 and 5 consecutive weeks respectively. The only other forward to hold onto his spot from last week is Eugene van Staden. This week we hand debut appearances to two Lions players in Eighthman Josh Strauss and Lock George Earle.
As you all can see, we now have a sponsor for the Team of the Week, and with a sponsor comes a prize. The competition we will be running will work as follows; at the end of the Currie Cup anybody can enter their team of the Currie Cup. The person that gets their team spot on with the team we select, wins a couple cases of Windhoek Lager. Thanks must go to Windhoek for their participation.

I have to say that Alberts werent so hot this week 🙁
The Lion’s centres deserves to be their, great game by both of them.
Finding a better 7 than alberts proved hard… Nay impossible. He wasn’t his usual self, but the other candidates were awful. Was tempted to pick downey out of position
365 picked raubenheinmer at ?, which was a joke. Downey had to make all his tackles for him!
Not a single player was able to get his name in every single team..
Elton Jantjies did not have such a great game.. His kicking at post was not up to standard and his major problem is he is standing way to deep..
I take my hat off to Doppies and Waylon, for creating so many gaps, because Elton is standing very deep and not attacking the advantage line, meaning the defensive team can close the gap very quickly and stop them before the advantage line..
Josh Strauss had a great game..
Province slaughtered Griquas, but only one player in team against the two of Griquas?? don’t kow how that happened
Any other Sharks fans miss Waylon Murray? 🙁
@vanmartin (Comment 6) : No, not really. I’m glad he’s doing good at the Lions. It would never have worked out here at the Sharks.
Has anyone won ‘a couple of cases’ of Windhoek yet?
Does couple in this case mean two?
@pierre13 (Comment 5) :
Since when has this site EVER been objective??
@vanmartin (Comment 6) : Yes!! Offer him a new surfboard see if he won`t come back?
With Strauss leaving next year, Stefan getting old and Adi still nowhere in sight we are short of centres.
Can Alberts not make this team?
Replacement for Spies please. At least this guy is not all brawn no brain.
@McLovin (Comment 8) : no i guess its bitter rather Castle or H Dry it taste better
