The final Currie Cup Coach and Player of the month were awarded to the Sharks yesterday, as coach John Plumtree and loose forward Keegan Daniel won Coach and Player of the Month respectively.
The Sharks ended top of the log at the end of the league phase and went on to beat the Bulls in the semi final to book their spot in the final against Western Province on Saturday.
Daniel has been in outstanding form for the Sharks this season. The 25-year-old flank is the third leading try-scorer in the 2010 competition and has been one of the Durban sideβs star performers during their campaign this year. He is one of five nominees in the category of the Currie Cup Player of the Year Award which will be announced at the annual SARU Player of the Year banquet on Monday.
Meanwhile GWK Griquas wing Bjorn Basson was also honoured at the awards ceremony held in Durban on Tuesday. Basson scored 21 tries this season and broke the Currie Cup try-scoring record of 19 that was previously held by Carel du Plessis (1986) and Colin Lloyd (2006).

Well done Keegs and Plum. You rightfully deserve this. Now just go out there and continue your great form on Saturday!
Hi All. Maybe this is not the right thread, but anyway. I have been out of the country for a couple of days. (Zimbabwe of all places Fiday to Tuesday π― π― ). And have to say, it is kinda quiet on this site. You would not say we are playing in a final on Saturday. Two weeks back, when playing against the bulls it was hectic the whole week. Not the same build up π₯
Well deserved!
@SharksRTB (Comment 2) : Reckon it will pick up from tomorrow though, think everybody is a bit nervous…besides, I much prefer all the talk coming out of the cape π
If memory serves, things were pretty quiet from the Sharks side in 2008 as well. I just want Saturday to get here already! π
Oh, and of course well done to Daniel and Plum! Very deserved! Can’t believe how much Keegan has grown as a player this year, from playing second fiddle to Botes and getting the occasional run, to be one of the 1st names written down on the team sheet…and it couldnt happen to a nicer guy.
And Plum has given me the proverbial finger…I was not that impressed by him late last year and with this years super 14, but he has shown again what a good coach he is!
whatever!! π
Pity they’ll be crying come Saturday evening!! π
@wpw (Comment 6) : Yeah, you are right, I’ll be shedding a tear with them when Stef holds the cup aloft π
Well done Plum and Keegan…..now follow that up with player and coach of the year awards.
Well deserved awards.
@Pokkel (Comment 8) : Follow it up with the Currie Cup trophy.
@wpw (Comment 6) :
Trying too hard there to get the banter going.. hehe
Well done Coach and Daniel it was Well deserved!
