SARU have confirmed that Schalk Burger and Juan de Jongh have been ruled out of the End of Year Tour due to injury.

Schalk has a broken rib and de Jongh suffered a hairline fracture to his left ankle. Burger will be replaced by Deon Steggman and de Jongh by Adi Jacobs. Zane Kirchner has also been added to the tour party to keep the allocated 30 members.

Meanwhile, Jean de Villiers, Willem Alberts and Chiliboy Ralapelle all sat out the Springbok training sessions today as they are all nursing niggling injuries.

Mvovo is the all round package where as Basson is only awesome in the air otherwise he is pretty ordinary with quite a bit of gas , but then again we saw on Sat just how much gas Mvovo has and he also has the option of running over the player unlike Basson who always has to go round !

And kirchener is as average as white bread. Why not given Ludik a look in?

This bok side is going to struggle- guys will be tired and they will have 5 days to gel… The bulls will be rested but the sharks forwards will be broken after saturday’s effort.

  • Ludik would have been a far better option than Kirchner. Kirchner doesn’t have what it takes to play at test level. He is an average super rugby player at best.

I don’t want to just start handing out Bok caps but with Kirchner we know what we have and it isn’t quite good enough. Why not test out Ludik at test level so we can get a better idea of our depth because we are pretty thin with fullbacks right now.

He is also staring to find the form he enjoyed prior to being injured and he is definately not scared to join the line . Ludik , unlike Zayne , prefers to run with the ball so we dont have to worry about the good old up and under which has become Zayne’s weapon of choice every time he starts a counter attack!

It seems as if he is still the scapegoat for the stuff-ups in New Zealand where he had no support from the overrated and out-of-form Spies and Burger.

  • @wpw (Comment 82) : Basson also needs to improve his work rate but his skill under the highball is amazing. watch the kick at 49 secs and see him pluck that out of the air.

Basson like Mvovo also needs to look for more work in the game.

Mvovo has the potential and I do back him but Basson would get first pick simply because he has played S14 and he managed to top the try scoring logs in a team that lost more games than they won. It is easy to shine in a winning team but not quite so easy to shine on the losing side.

  • Me and a mate of mine (he is a Bulls supporter i’m sad to say πŸ™‚ ), had a discussion of who would be called up if either JdV and/or JdJ would not tour. My opinion was that seeing that Adi is already there, that PdV & Kie would select either Jantjies or Krusty (and i said it on a previous thread as well) and that Frans Steyn would cover the centre spot. I’m having a knack of getting the selections right thus far, hehehehe, Ian Mac’s job is on the line πŸ˜€
But i would NEVER have gotten the selection of Stegman right if i heard that Schalk was out. I seriously would have selected Flo.
