He has been a vital part of this ‘home” of ours… He’s a tjirper, a stirrer… and has a wicked sense of humour! He’s opinion is highly valued on the site…and he HATES it if you talk about the “rules” and not the “laws” of rugby. He is the King of his own Castle! Ladies and Gents – I give you “Oubaas”!

Name, nickname and where do you live?
André Bosch, Boschie or sometimes just windgat or grootbek, lard-arse on occasion as well.  I live in Ras Tanura in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but home is Pinetown Durban to which we return twice a year.

The Royal Couple - KSA and Kette

What do you do for a living?
My title is Analyzer Specialist, but basically I’m an analyzer technician.  Yes I know…………What is an analyzer Specialist?

Who do you support and why?
The Sharks, because I’d moer myself if I supported anyone else.

How/why did you become a xxx supporter?
I don’t support xxx-Rated stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J  Seriously though.  I didn’t become a Shark supporter I was born one.  It’s in the blood.

What was your most memorable rugby moment (personally experienced or a team / player)?
There are two really.

1)      Being one of the touch judges during the IRB 7s Series Final in Dubai between England and Fiji and the crowd started signing “Swing low, sweet chariot”.  The feeling is indescribable.

2)      Quite ironic that I actually remember very little of this actual event. I tackled Steve Tarr and my head was on the wrong side resulting in concussion.  APPARENTLY I tried to continue playing, the scenes in the showers afterwards were a sight to behold with me asking a million questions a minute and continuing on into the evening as a bit of a zombie. (Well apparently it was so, I can’t actually remember)

What is your Dream team (old and current players)?

15. Andre Joubert

14/11. Rory Underwood, James Small

12/13. Danie Gerber, Jeremy Guscott, (Honourable mention to  SBW & Will Carling)

10. Rob Andrew, Thierry lacroix

9. Nick Farr-Jones

8. Zinzan Brooke

7. Michael Jones

6. Cheatie McCaw

5. Mark Andrews

4. Victor Matfield (Yes I know)

3. Jason Leonard

2. Tom Lawton

1. Os Du Randt

Which co-bloggers opinion do you value the Most? Why?
The ones who talk from a knowledgeable point of view and don’t try and pass their opinion off as fact.

What is the biggest sacrifice you’ve made to watch a rugby match?
Taking leave and flying 6000 miles to SA for the All SA S14 final in 2007.  Arriving in SA the day before the match and leaving SA the day after the match.

Who is your least liked player?
Victoria Matfield (Like everyone didn’t already know that)

Who are your favourite 3 players of all time and why?
Rob Andrew, Thierry Lacroix, Henry Honiball – I love a player who has the flash and the grunt.  I suspect I will be adding SBW to this list soon.

If you could have a blogger deleted, who would it be and why?
I’m not American but I’m pleading the 5th.

If you could select a coach (past or present) to be with Your team – who would it be?
Ian Mac – Past, Sean Everitt – Present

How did you end up on SW, wasting valuable company time?
I’ll spare you the details, but essentially I had decided to stop blogging and then a 31 year old (at the time – he is 33 now) approached me and asked me to join him on this awesome ride.

Who is your favourite referee – current or old?
Ian Rogers – Sadly only knew him BRIEFLY before he died of cancer.

Why Rugby ?
It was rugby or surfing and I couldn’t walk around only using 10% of my brain capacity so I made the wise choice.

How do you react when your team loses?
I go all quiet and reflective.

DURING a game…… In a stadium I am pretty raucous. If I watch a game on TV I prefer to do it in silence without having to explain or debate decisions with others and just immerse myself in the game.

What is your most memorable rugby moment ever?
Already answered that above, All I’ll say here is I wore one of the jerseys afterwards. J

What is your favourite rugby ground?
KINGS PARK!!!!!!!!!

What is your earliest memory of a live game – provincial or test match?
1986 – being at Welkom Stadium watching NOFS (in those days) play The guys who used to have the “mielie” on their chest South Western or South Eastern Transvaal.

If you could play – what position would suite you best and why?
Scrumhalf –  it’s the only position where I can (reasonably) justifiably use this mouth to half of it’s potential.

Do you have any pre-match routines (home or going to the game)?
My pre-match routine is a little different (it is from a refereeing point of view).

I get the pre-match talk with the players out of the way, get all my kit on accept the jersey that goes on literally at the LAST minute. Find a quite spot and listen to “4Strings – take me away” on the ipod over and over, just getting any other thoughts other than the game out of my head.

Who is your all-time favourite or best Captain? (locally or internationally) and why?
Gary Teichmann

If your nic is not your real name – how did it originate?
KSA Shark – I have NO IDEA how I decided on that.

Explain ‘Sharkertainment’ – do the Sharks give you more than just rugby?
DO THEY EVER!!!!!!!.  I am reminded of the Lions supporter who posted an article to us about her first experience at KP.  She said something along the lines of there was all this hype about KP and she was going to go and see for herself and not even her wildest expectations could have prepared her for how much better than expected the place was.

Oubaas at his favourite stadium with KSA Sharkette, Me2, his favourite blogger (not) Klempie and ...I dont know that guy!

Thanks Oubaas!! Let’s hope for many more years and many more words of “wisdom”! 😈

Sounds like me trying to explain my job title. These days I just opt for the very lame: “I work in IT” although it’s pretty far removed from what I really do.

  • Whoa that’s me! That was for the Lions vs Sharks game and it was great. It was such a pleasure meeting KSA Shark, and I’ll never forget how he dealt with security at Durban airpt (wouldn’t let us stick around in the drop-off zone for more than 3 and half seconds). I thought he was going to give her a card 😆

Signing it? I wouldn’t have thought sign language would have had the same impact, but ok.

Both on & off the field…had the priveldge of being his “neighbour” while he was on holiday in Trnaskei…..he was wonderful with the youngsters…telling them about thereir favourite players, answering their questions etc. even played touch rugby with them on the beach. He had just been diagnosed at the time…although we did not know it.
