The Sharks next goal is to lift the new super 15 trophy. So let us see what our player stocks look like before this new and exciting season for The Sharks.

The Squads for the new Super 15 seem to be larger than last year, moving from 30 man to 40 man. Here is what i think our squad could look like. We don’t need to worry about depth and Young talent coming through…that is for sure.

*Can cover another position too/ ?-Contract

  1. Beast, Sabelo Nhlapo and Dale Chadwick
  2. Bissie, Burden and Cooper
  3. Jannie, Van Staden*  and Smit*and Herbst
  4. Sykes, Mossie* and Bresler
  5. Hargreaves and Skeate
  6. Keegan* and Botes
  7. Deysel , Willem*and Ojiambo*
  8. Kankowski
  9. Charl, Rory Kockott-? , Hoffman* and Cronje
  10. Lambie*, JLP* , Pretorius-? And Cronje
  11. Mvovo and JP
  12. Bosman*, Jenner*
  13. Jacobs*,Stef*, Vulindlu*, Lindeque and Mnisi*
  14. Odwa
  15. Ludik

Possible Inclusions:

Kene Okafor, Wynand Pienaar, Cobus Reinach, (Mark Richards and Sithole)- Likely to play for Sevens Bokke.

There might be a few guys i might have forgotten, but all in all it looks like we will have a really strong squad and a good mix of youth and experience too. I have no doubt that if we keep doing the hard work in the gym, on the field and off the field we stand a great chance of getting our hands on a title we greatly deserve. Go Sharks!!!

Yes we`ve got 3 top class wings ( all of them bokke come to think of it! ) but the Super 15 will only demand more depth and we`ve never even won a super 14 . . .

Mark warmed up with the Sharks before the C/Cup final, so he must be fairly close to breaking into the squad. Hopefully they test him out in the S15 pre-season games and make an assessment of his readiness for superrugby from there. Having seen the impact that quick off the mark players like Foden, Beale and Halfpenny have made at international level indicates that Mark’s size shouldn’t be the factor stopping him from being selected.

  • Comment 59, posted at 19.11.10 18:48:04 by Rooiwillie Reply
  • I suppose Stef, Lambie and Odwa will be the cover for Ludik at fullback. The only problem is that wing could become a bigger problem area (if Odwa had to move) and we may not want to move Lambie again. Moving Stef: Centre could also then be a bigger problem especially if we do not bring in the youngsters early enough.

  • Comment 61, posted at 19.11.10 19:01:46 by Rooiwillie Reply
  • @Sportbilly (Comment 38) : I agree. Lock is not a concern for me at this time. In addition Willem can also be utilised as lock if need be.

  • Comment 62, posted at 19.11.10 19:05:19 by Rooiwillie Reply
  • To summarise my thoughts at this stage:

Prop: If Smit is not utilised as a prop (or available for selection there) we could be a bit thin here. Van Staden’s versatility and youngsters performances is vitally important here.
    Hooker: Fine
    Lock: Fine
Loose forward: Need that 6th one confirmed but have 5 very good loose forwards already on books here

Scrumhalf: Will feel alot better if we retain Rory.
Rest of backline: As touched on in comment 60 I feel the versatile players covering various positions here could cause problems in one area to overflow into others. In addition we could be in a situation where an injury during the game forces us to move someone starting in another position to swop. Bringing in youngsters will be crucial. Also specific question marks over wing, outside centre (especially with Stef covering 15 as well) and youngsters not being given opportunities in Curry Cup here and fullback in the sense as stated in comment 60.

Coaching Staff, Professionalism, Spirit: It’s all good!

  • I know JLP moved to the Sharks primarily to get more game time in the nr 10 jersey. Lambie’s recent rise however does put a spanner in the works. I was looking at the article and wondering how good an outside centre JLP will be. I am just considering a 10-12-13 combo of Lambie, Bosman and JLP (not necessarily as forst choice). What do you guys think? And if centres switch? Lets say for arguments sake JLP has to choose between on the bench for 10 or starting at centre… There are obviously various factors to consider here e.g. other flyhalves and centres in squad
