The Sharks Super 15 and Vodacom Cup squads reported for duty yesterday to get their pre-season training under way. Some holiday, huh?

The aim seems to be working on strength and conditioning at this stage, with the team doing all of their work in the gym, rather than on the training pitch. A solid 3-week push now, before the lads are given a bit of time off over the festive season, should lay some good groundwork for the gruelling season to come.

Reports from within the camp indicate that, apart from Conrad Hoffman, Meyer Bosman and Jacques-Louis Potgieter, no other new faces have been spotted. There is a welcome return to the Sharks XV squad for Rovers hooker Jody Jenneker, who spent a few years on the club scene since last playing for the Sharks in 2008. Jenneker was voted player of the tournament at the recent National Club Championships, where he featured out of position on the flank in the Rovers side that took the cup.

It has been reported that both Riaan Swanepoel and Rory Kockott – players whose contractual situation with the Sharks is still somewhat unclear – were both present, indicating that both are still with the Sharks, at least for now.

  • The Sharks are truely the hooker factory of South Africa. The Black and White district have the hooker, the hoe, the whore, the prostitute and the hustler, namely Smith, Bissie, Burden, Cooper and now Jody. The question I pose is which player is the hooker? Which is the hoe? Etc etc? Any help

So there is currently no movement on any approach from the Sharks.

  • can’t say that I am overly excited by JLP or Bosman for that matter. I doubt that they were brought to play in Vodacom cup so they will just end up taking a spot from some promising youngster.
