You know, for a person who claims to be one of the most passionate Sharks supporters out there, sometimes I can be incredibly short-sighted. I realised that I allowed myself to get so carried away about certain positional selection in the Bok side for this weekend that I completely missed the bigger picture.
Fact is, I would be absolutely amazed if this wasn’t the first time, in history, that a Springbok 22 has been named containing 11 Sharks players! While I’m generally a bit of a stats-head, I honestly don’t know whether it has happened before, but my gut tells me that it’s a rare enough occurrence that if this wasn’t the first time, I would probably know about it…
So let’s not get too petty about who’s playing where, or even split hairs about the fact that the guy wearing 12 is technically not a Sharks player any more. I think the selections for this match – and for this tour – are a pretty good testament to the amazing season the Sharks have had and just reward for the efforts that so many individuals have put into making the team so successful. So, starting from the top, to Beast and Ali and Vic and Hoff and Keegs and Charlie and Dries and Adi and Lwazi and Oddy and Pat – thanks again from all of us for 2010! Best of luck and make us proud out there!

Too right Rob, and the biggest kudo must go to John Plumtree whose fantastic coaching has made this possible.
@jonnow (Comment 1) : a-flipping-men to that!
Rob,
Nice one man, I felt the same as you this week, kicked up a storm when Pat was moved to FB. Now just feel great that he is starting.
Well done to all our Sharks players for making the Bok team. Also thanks to all of them making us proud by winning the CC.
After tomorrow my Bok pic will change to a Shark 😎
@jonnow (Comment 1) : Agree 100%. Well done to Plum.
@Puma (Comment 3) : that’s it… time to start building for 2011
@robdylan (Comment 5) : Just give us the S15 trophy.
@robdylan (Comment 5) : For sure Rob, next year is a long one. Plenty rugby so hope our boys stay injury free tomorrow. Really looking forward to the S15. Seems such a long way off right now.
@Honey Badger (Comment 6) : 🙂
Aaah, now this is spot on Rob. Didn’t want to say too much on the other thread, but I’m glad people are finally enjoying seeing so many 2010 Sharks heroes getting a shot.
Seeing so many sharks in the bok setup, you might be forgiven for saying it is the last Sharks game of the season 😆
It will be a tough one thou that is for sure. Any predictions on what the weather do? I’m sure it will be cold but as long as there is no rain predicted, I will be happy.
Its good to know that our boys are back in the springboks..I got so mad after the super 14 where bulls n stormers guys made up practually the whole springbok team..but I guess if the union does well their players are rewarded..
I can’t actually wait for super 15 I think 2011 the sharks should reaslistically become the top south african team for the year..with the players comin through n the players we got we shouldn’t struggle..but hey u never know with the boys..
Wonder if strauss would of left if he knew how the season ended..
I am sure your’l probably know this, in the Daily News its been confirmed AP is leaving the Sharks
@Big Fish (Comment 9) : I lost a bit of perspective, I’ll admit it
In my nicest possible way, I was eluding to this in the last couple of weeks.
Most Bulls fans I know puts province ahead of country, and we tend to forget (and I will forgive you because you had a fairytale season) what an honour it is just to be selected in a Bok group.
This site, is the flagship and the home of Sharks supporters from all over the world, and comments in the last month concerned me as to the Sharks becoming what I detest most about the Bulls, about making almal Bokke…
This is the post of the year given the context I am referring to.
Welcome back.
@robdylan (Comment 14) :
Dont we all sometimes?
@Morné (Comment 15) :
For sure, for me SW has never just been about Sharks rugby, but the game at large, with just a bias to the Sharks (or as much a bias as the other teams’ fans allowed).
In addition, it has always been a place where people can come to find enjoyment, not anger or pessimism (thats freely available everywhere).
Perhaps those traits haven’t been as strong of late as some of us would like. But that time has seemingly passed.
@Big Fish (Comment 16) :
Was only a matter of time.
I’m out, ciao
@Morné (Comment 18) :
Cheerio ole bean! 😉
Let’s just hope they recover well…..and hit the ground running in the new vamped Super 15…… all ready getting excited about it.
Walking around with no rugby on for the first time in a long time ! 😆
Watch lambie pouch man of the match from 15
@jonnow (Comment 1) : Plum is going to have his work cut out for him when they all get back for training after hanging out with the Boks and not being coached by Divvy and co.
I hope Divvy hasn’t done too much damage 😈
well done to all the sharks that made the bok team and yes Plumpie i and amoung us we didn’t gv u a fear chance but yet u still went ahead and proved most of us wrong
Well done again Plumpie c u 2011 S15
