No Butch? 😉 😈
@McLovin (Comment 1) : he’s still contracted to Bath, I believe 🙂
Go Sharks ❗
I hope Mvovo is starting for the Super 15…
@deanoelsch (Comment 4) : Think cause of the niggle he has he is on the bench. Not very sure.
Otherwise Mvovo will start for us in the S15.
@deanoelsch (Comment 4) : hey hey – look who’s back!
Lwazi is nursing a knee… pretty sure he’ll start ahead of Odwa
@robdylan (Comment 6) : Rob, will we get updates for this game?
@Puma (Comment 7) : gonna do my best boss
By my count, 10 players in the combined squads have played for both teams!
@Greg (Comment 9) : I only have 9… 3 for the Sharks and 6 for the Lions.
@robdylan (Comment 10) : Are you including Lionel Mapoe
@robdylan (Comment 10) : charl mcleod also played for the lions before he went to the valke, I can only count 5 on the lions side.
@robdylan (Comment 10) : Ludik, McLeod, Alberts, Mostert I got 4 on the Sharks side
@war1 (Comment 12) : Charl was contracted to the Lions, he was at the Valke on loan.
@Greg (Comment 11) : no – he never played for us. Just stole all our training kit. 👿
@robdylan (Comment 15) : If the idiot could read he never would have signed he’s cheetah contract!
game’s about to start
@robdylan (Comment 15) : Well not all of it, unless that’s why they training in RED 😆
@Ben (Comment 16) : Don’t like to be pedantic, but it’s “his” contract 😆
If you are waiting for updates give this a look while you do.

Rugby behind bars – prison Rugby………..
Naand Sharks, hoop mens kan iets hoor hier oor die game, gaan dinge goed hier?
both teams wearing white jerseys… second time now
@Greg (Comment 19) : Ag thank you so much!
@robdylan (Comment 22) : WTF?
@superBul (Comment 21) : lekker thanks meneer… en daar?
@robdylan (Comment 22) : Second time now? Meaning the 1st time was when the cheetahs and brumbies both played in white?
@robdylan (Comment 25) : dit gaan goed dankie , mos op verlof. Heerlike naweek gehad in die Klaserie
@superBul (Comment 21) :
Julle het teen die Kings verloor ek sou nie se dinge gaan goed nie. 😉
Sharks taking some pressure on their line. Handling very poor from both teams so far.
6 minutes gone, still no score.
@Ben (Comment 26) : no – the stormers and lions both played in white
is there anywhere that we can listen to the game?
Penalty Lions on 22 – offsides by Sharks under pressure.
They kick for touch and AP overcooks the kick. Poor kick-off – and we under pressure again.
@robdylan (Comment 31) :
How u know that?
@robdylan (Comment 31) : The lions do it on purpose to have an excuse when they lose both games! 😉
@Ben (Comment 23) : Well, if you are going to call him an idiot ……..
@Ice (KCM) (Comment 34) : tweeter
@robdylan (Comment 8) : 😎
@Big Fish (Comment 33) : We in good hands with you there BF, keep those updates coming.
@robdylan (Comment 37) : ohhhhhh
sharks putting together some nice passes and pick and drives. Some good runs by Pat and JPP so far. Only problem is rusty handling.
Lions also looking sharp, esp Murray and a buffer Chavanga.
sounds like shitty weather
@Big Fish (Comment 40) : Nice, keep it up Pat and JPP.
First scrum penalty to Sharks – Beast working Cilliers.
Smit loses his second lineout so far – been good in the loose, not so good here.
Beast wins a turnover scrum – Cilliers struggling.
Wil julle n goalless draw sien vanaand
@Big Fish (Comment 43) : As I said he would.
@Big Fish (Comment 40) : you still love Waylon, after all these years? Does Stef look the same size as him?
@Big Fish (Comment 43) :
Go Beast 🙂
Smit will get it right with the throw ins, probably needs this game for practice.. 😛 hoping.
@superBul (Comment 44) : tell the WTR boys we say hi 🙂
Smit will – just give himafew games
@Big Fish (Comment 43) : hey – are you sure it’s Pat? Morne reckons it’s Ross Geldenhuys…
Great steal by Minnie wins a penalty for Lions. Lineout at halfway.
Adongo running past me looking freaking huge.
Stupid high tackle call against JPP. He then makes amends by jumping an up-and-under into touch, winning a lineout back in Lions territory that Barney throws skew. Again.
It is Cilliers. Beast concedes a scrum penalty. An exciting period results in more handling mistakes and a Lions scrum on our 22.
JLP on for Bosman. Penalty kicked by the former to Lions 22 – hands in ruck.
@Big Fish (Comment 51) : Come on Smit, need him to get those throw-ins. He will though, think it will take this game and the next to get it back.
Kom nou Sharkies.
@Big Fish (Comment 51) :
Who is reffing?
My bad – Ludik off, Pat to 15.
Finally some excitement, meyer bosman grabs an intercept on lions line and scores. Ummm no he doesn’t ref calls back for some infringement
Meyer Bosman called back after intercept (non)try. 🙁
Still 0-0. Beast doing well.
@Big Fish (Comment 52) : Only half hour for Bosman then, think everyone will have a bit of game time.
@Big Fish (Comment 56) : Would have had Pat on longer at fh.
Pat scores a try! 5-0 Sharks
5-0 Sharks up.
Penalty Sharks – diving into the ruck. Lineout on 22.
Lovely ands by a number of Sharks – esp JLP and Bosman results in Pat scoring a good try. Conversion of medium difficulty.
Alberts and JPP starting to make some yards now. Mcleod also distributing well.
Kick missed.
@robdylan (Comment 62) : HEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAA 🙂 Go Lamie.. 😎
Pat fails to convert his own try.
@Puma (Comment 65) : typo, will type Pat rather easier..hehe
Penalty in front for Lion from kick off – standing in front of the kicker.
AP scores. 3-5.
@Big Fish (Comment 64) : so JLP and Bosman at 10-12 looking ok?
@robdylan (Comment 62) :
Could we call him Lambie? Just to minimise confusion please? 😉
@robdylan (Comment 66) : Damn, he has to really concentrate on kicking at goals. Braam needs to work with Pat more there.
5-3 Sharks.
@Ice (KCM) (Comment 70) : why would we do that? We only have one Pat now…
How’s Superpat?
@Puma (Comment 71) :
Lambie should have had intense kicking coaching in the off season…can no one else see the problem here??
Pretorius Pen… 5-3
@robdylan (Comment 73) :
Better! 😆
@Ice (KCM) (Comment 74) : Thought Braam was working with him on that. He will get it right, just must keep giving him the kicks. If they give it to JLP or Bosman that will not help Pat’s confidence.
@Speed7 (Comment 72) : are you at the game?
Hargreaves falls heavily in front of me – hear his head bounce. Unable to continue, and while one man down, Lions score.
Ali stretchered off. Converted – Lions lead 10-5.
shit – Lions try… Minnie.
10-5
Not there. Getting updates as it happens though. Lions 10 Sharks 5.
Why kick penalties in a warm-up game if the final score is not important…………… 😕
Or is it?
@robdylan (Comment 73) : Call him ‘Spud’, he is from Michaelhouse, after all 😆
@Big Fish (Comment 79) : Don’t sound good about Hargreaves.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 82) :
Always important to me… 😆
@KSA Shark © (Comment 82) : Probably is important to try out the kicking. Need to try out everything in these two warm-up games.
@Big Fish (Comment 79) : any idea who came on for him?
@Ice (KCM) (Comment 85) : snap 😛
@robdylan (Comment 73) :
No Dude she is a blonde.
She’ll have a problem who pat is and who Superpat is. 😛
@Greg (Comment 83) : Spud never won the Currie Cup 🙂
@KSA Shark © (Comment 89) : simple… he’s “pat” when he misses kicks and “Superpat” when he scores tries 🙂
Come om sharkies you can’t lose!!!
@robdylan (Comment 91) :
Sharks look very rusty – which is still ok. Concerns should be over some handling by Pat and throw-ins by Smit. Also some poor defence at times.
All in all, mostly a case of rustiness.
Lions looking good, especially Taute, Chavanga, Minnie and Murray. AP also made a few good breaks and passes.
Mostert on for Ali, Mvovo on for Odwa.
@robdylan (Comment 90) : If you saw the movie, and his coach, you wouldn’t wonder why! 😆
@Ben (Comment 92) :
A loss here would not bother me in the least.
@Big Fish (Comment 94) :
Thanks for the updates BF.
Hope Hargreaves is okay.
Has there been any Lions subs ?
@Big Fish (Comment 94) : Are we kicking the ball allot or are we playing our currie cup type rugby?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : Nor me.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : A loss always bothers me!
Ref blowing us up very often for off-sides.
Lions score again after some slick hands. Easy conversion for Burton (on for AP).
Lions lead 17-5.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : It’s just a warm-up, the first match against Super Rugby / Currie Cup opposition this year if I’m not mistaken. The Lions had their rusty-ness against the Stormers, we’ll have a much improved performance next match (vs Stormers).
another try to the Lions – Warren Whiteley.
17-5 they lead
17-5 Lions.
Yet another Lions penalty for off-sides – kicked into our 22, but lost forward by Burton. Very sloppy by Sharks at the moment.
@Ben (Comment 100) : These games are just for trying out things Ben. Hope though on Saturday we play with whoever we think should start against Cheetahs for the first 40min before we take players off. This game we needed to give everyone a run. That way you can’t really worry too much about a win or a loss really.
@robdylan (Comment 103) : wtf? Being rusty is one thing, being hammered by a team that was hammered in the last game is another!
I just don’t get why SS is not broadcasting the match ..very frustrating to say the least ..
Its not like there is anything on at the moment thats important enough to snub a warm-up match ..
hmmm – seems I need to spend some time tuning this new server… not loving all the traffic 🙂
Fish – who’s on at the moment?
@Big Fish (Comment 105) : We do sound really off it at the moment. Hope for better on Saturday, not too worried if we lose both games, just need to get the mistakes right.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : It would make the snoil supporters unbearable though…
Make that 22-5. Lions. Must be the Butch factor.
Any dirty play involved with the ali injury?
Yet another Lions penalty – for a scrum infringement leads to a Lions try. 24-5. Looking very poor from the Sharks, but like I said before, very rusty.
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 107) : Yeah, but players were not settled long enough in a position before being taken off or changed to another position. So can’t take this one too serious. Need to give all players a run here. Think that could cause a scrappy game.
eina… a 3rd try. Taute now
@Speed7 (Comment 113) : ??????????????????????
@Just a Fan (Comment 112) :
Were they bearable before? (CSB, Walter etc excluded)
@Puma (Comment 106) : I just don’t like losing dude.
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 107) :
15 – 0 hardly a hammering …
@Just a Fan (Comment 112) :
I doubt very much that most sane Lion supporters would read into a win to much ..if so it would be silly.
I’m just pleased to hear we are managing to cross the line without fluffing it.
Turnover stats?
Kanko has been pisspoor all evening. Sharks concede another, legitimate penalty on their 22 for hands in ruck.
Kicked 10m out, but skew throw.
@CSB Razzmatazz Lions 😉 (Comment 121) : Yeah but I dont think there are a lot of “sane Lion supporters” 🙂 I am with ben though…losing under any conditions is hard to take…I have to start repeating the mantra “it’s just a warm up” DAYS in advance 😀
@Ben (Comment 120) : Nor do I Ben, but this is not the real deal. Just a training run. We have to sort out who will be our best starting XV against Cheetahs. Think on Saturday we will start with those players and play for longer with them in their positions before taking them off. Will see a better game on Saturday even if we don’t win. Not too worried, well will be if we play like this against Cheetahs. We will work on things buddy.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 119) :
Thanks !
We aim to please 😀 😉
Try Lwazi! 24-10
A few changes for Lions, but I only know Maku and Whitely.
@bergshark (Comment 122) :
Stats for a warm-up game are going to be like hensteeth.
@robdylan (Comment 127) : Heeeeehaaaaaaa, we get our 2nd try 😎
At 1st glance I thought this was last year’s Sharks v Force match 🙄
While a win is always nice, these games are not about winning, they’re about ensuring match fitness, working on structures, combinations and game plans
@Just a Fan (Comment 124) : @Puma (Comment 125) :
Sheesh guys give your side a chance though .. Where is the faith the game is not even over yet ..?
And trust me it would not suprise me in the least if the Lions go on to lose this one …
@Greg (Comment 132) : 100% Greg.
I dont care much for the win or a loss, its the margin that concerns me more. Dont like getting hammered.
Getting hammered .. 🙁
@CSB Razzmatazz Lions 😉 (Comment 133) : Could well happen, doesn’t really matter, if they did though, it would be the manner in which they lost that would be important
@Puma (Comment 125) : I think by now plum will know who he’s gonna start against the cheets. Think he knew a week ago
@CSB Razzmatazz Lions 😉 (Comment 133) : Either way it don’t really matter. Said so for a few weeks now. These games are for a run out, trying combos, gameplans. So forth. So not really that worried. If we lose to Cheetahs I will be. 😉
Big tackling by the Lions – impressive. Kamana on at 15 for them.
@CSB Razzmatazz Lions 😉 (Comment 126) :
F$%^EN Gangsta’s from Gauteng. 😈
hey – relax all of you… this is a nothing game!
how much time left
How much time left?
@Big Fish (Comment 140) : How has our defence been BF? Can’t have been that great if we let those tries through.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 141) : 🙂
@Greg (Comment 137) :
Years of scarring
@Big Fish (Comment 140) :
Been keen to see how this player goes.
@juba_fan (Comment 143) : @Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 144) : Snap! 😛
Lions bag a fourth try… 29-10
Agree,the result doesn’t matter but rather the execution..that said,if execution of plays ,and man-on-man defence, is up to scratch,we shouldn’t b losing..right?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 141) :
InDaHouse !
You feel me 😆
about 15 mins to go
@robdylan (Comment 149) : 🙄 Losing like this will mess up their confidence.
@bergshark (Comment 150) : Lions had a work out against Stormers, we still rusty..
Well hope we just rusty. Will see more on Saturday.
Lions score again – after about 2 penalties in a row. Plum will be concerned about defensive and ruck discipline.
Hoffman, SWD dude and Adongo are on. Adongo already made his big presence felt.
@robdylan (Comment 149) : 29-10 is hardly good enough, even if we werent full strength. This seems a poor start
Its clear the Lions managed to shake the rustiness against the Stormers.
Come Sat doubt very much the Sharks will be as rusty as the score suggests in this game.
@robdylan: just hope this doesn’t set the trend 🙁
Okay,let’s wait for s15 proper to begin,and see what the sharks can do..when it counts..perhaps lions bit more fired up than sharks? Which is fine,don’t want the guys to pick up injuries in a warm-up game..just as long as we hammer them in the s15..and later in the cc.mand do the same to them next season.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 153) : don’t start with that attitude already, dude… season hasn’t even started!
@bergshark (Comment 158) : tell you what, if the Lions are mauling the Sharks back at will, it’s cos the Sharks are holding back.
@Big Fish (Comment 155) : Have to say our defence don’t sound great.
Good to hear big Dan is making his presence felt… 😎
eina… try number 5. Now this is a rout…
A deserved yellow card againast the sharks for hands in the rucks results in a try. 34-10.
Adongo’s hands have been poor so far. Seems that concern may have basis.
Any news on ali yet?
@robdylan (Comment 160) : Also Rob, so many changes, we can’t really tell too much from this game. Maybe Saturday we play longer with players before taking them off. That would give us a better idea where we are right now.
a well… write this one off and try again against the Stormers… can’t win em all
@robdylan (Comment 159) : Dont worry about mine, worry about theirs 🙂
How is engelbrecht doing?minnie still on for lions? How they shaping against each other?
@Big Fish (Comment 163) : Seems like we have plenty work still to do. Hope we ready come the Cheetahs game. Think Saturday will tell us more.
Who got the yellow card???
How hoffman doing?
Lions score again. Hoffman has some work to do – a few wild passes and runs into blind alleys.
ag p**s…. 39-10 now. Try Killian
One thing it sounds like we need to get our decipline up and our defence for Saturday.
Pathetic end: 40-10 Lions.
How many scrummies in the tour party?just macleod and hoffman?where is tian meyer?
@Puma (Comment 174) : meant – discipline
Dont understand the benefit of ringing so many changes..no-one has enough time to make a difference…and losing just makes my head sore…surely Plum be a little more organised than this..:(
And the doubt sets in.
Full Time
Lions 41 – 10 Sharks. 😯
@Just a Fan (Comment 178) : Think we will play longer with each player in a position on Saturday. Maybe need to gel more together. We will work on it. Have to wait and see how much we get it right on Saturday.
Don’t worry too much about this game. We are rusty, like Lions lost to Stormers they sure were not worried about that game either. Must have worked on their game. We will too.
Okay..back to the drawing board.. 🙁
@robdylan (Comment 173) :
right – listen to me, all of you. That was a KAK result and a KAK performance, but we as fans need to show a bit of backbone here. It means nothing and the last thing we need to do is start doubting our team and throwing our toys.
That’s an order… 🙂
@KSA Shark © (Comment 180) : Yeah, we got a smack, but not that surprised. Changed players very quick tonight. Still think that was fine, needed to give each player a run here. Saturday think we will stick with players longer before taking them off.
the only real disaster here is losing Hargreaves. I will find out how bad it is and let you guys know.
Glad the game was not televised…would have been painful to watch eventhough it is preseason…it still hurts!! Sharks must show some commitment against stormers so that they can get a real test behind them before The Cheetahs game.
@Puma (Comment 181) : 🙁 I can read the words, but the heart is not feeling them …*she bursts into tears*
@robdylan (Comment 184) : Yes Dad… 😐
@robdylan (Comment 184) : Couldn’t agree more. Am really happy we won, it’s a positive after so many negatives, but hey, our second game, your first. Means nothing in the greater scheme of things. Third week of Feb is when it’s important.
Okay out of here. Cheers everyone.
We will learn by this tonight. Work on it. So not too worried.
Thanks BF for updates.
Same start as last year! If they give us the same SR as last year I swear I am going to stop watching rugby and take up swimming or chess or something 👿
Go Sharks!!! Looking forward to Stormers…we need to start putting our preparation work to the test…
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 192) : Rather judge them against the Cheetahs. We will be fine. Plenty changes, we can’t take too much out of this game.
Next game will be better.
Now out of here. Cheers
Ok sorry hadn’t read your order yet, when I posted but I am very disapointed. But welldone to you Greg and other Lion supporters
@Just a Fan (Comment 188) : 🙂
Steady on there guys.
We are Sharks SUPPORTERS not CRITICS!
We have ALL been saying these are warm-up games and the result is of limited importance. lets remember that.
the sharks are still the favourites to win the Super Rugby south african conference! 🙂
@ Puma, KSA you are right but its emotional to witness such a clap, even though your head is saying one thing your heart is saying another but I am and will remain a Shark forever
@Megatron (Comment 198) : thanx Mega – u consoling us must come down as a sort of historical moments 😛
(i’ll keep a copy)
it’s a warm up “they are too good side to be phased out by loss”
@KSA Shark © (Comment 180) : fortunately you’re a closet lion 😆 (according to CSB) 😯 😉
GO SHARKS !!!
Not a good result but obviously the guys have not been doing much “non-conditioning” work, it will get better but the question is will it be better enough by the time the cheetahs come to town. I honestly think it’s naive to just shrug this off as a bad night at the office. The Sharks need to get a lot better and quickly, we can’t afford another bad start to the season.
Ah sting 😡
@war1 (Comment 204) : couldnt agree more
@rekinek (Comment 202) :
Those guys will do ANYTHING to boost their supporter numbers. 🙂
Full Sharks staring lineup….
LIONS did well…
