Keegan Daniel has been passed fit to play on Saturday and has joined up with the Shark team in Cape Town, ahead of their Neo Africa Tri-Series match against the Stormers.
The popular loose forward, who made his Bok debut last year, has been battling a back strain for a few weeks. Ross Skeate confirmed via his Twitter feed earlier today that Keegan is now over those problems and will be part of the squad for Saturday.
It is not currently known what part Daniel will play on Saturday, but our assumption is that he will be added to the extended bench and probably take over at open side flank for Jacques Botes in the second half.

Nice! Hope he can pick up where he left off in the Currie Cup last year. Plumtree has too many options at 6,7 and 8.
Good news, he brings leadership which we may need with smittie away for the w/e. But surely he has to start from the bench at best.
Good news.
Sweet! Still think he’s our best choice at no 8.
@rhineshark (Comment 4) : i would not mind seeing alberts there
@rekinek (Comment 5) : I think Alberts is pretty devastating no matter where he plays, but my reasoning is that we have a more effective attacking combination with Keegan at 8 and Alberts at 7 than visa versa.
@rhineshark (Comment 6) : Keegan at 8 could work beautifully with any two of Alberts, Deysel or Engelbrecht at 6 and 7
I’ve always rated Daniel, so I’m glad he proved me right.
Glad Keegan Daniels is ok.
@Big Fish (Comment 9) : tosser ๐
Amazing how Kanko has moved from number 1 8th man in the country (in the minds of Shark fans) to 3rd best at the Sharks.
Afternoon everyone,
This is good news Go Daniel you were great last year
@Starvekos (Comment 11) : you misunderstand me. In the intersts of putting forward combinations that could work, I mention Keegan at 8 with two big flanks. That’s not the same as saying I don’t rate Kanko anymore! Hoff is our gamebreaker and the second name I will add to the teamsheet (first is Alberts currently)
@robdylan (Comment 7) : I think he proved last year how good an 8th man he really is and his interplay/understanding with/of McLeod is almost freaky.
@robdylan (Comment 13) :
Good point Rob
@Starvekos (Comment 15) : so you’re already learning that agreeing with me is the best way to get things done around here! Smart lad ๐
(actually just kidding…. nobody takes me seriously anymore!)
@rhineshark (Comment 14) : tell you what, I reckon Keegan is close the best ballplayer in the whole team. His reading of the game is bloody uncanny.
@robdylan (Comment 16) : Did anyone ever take you seriously? ๐
@Greg (Comment 18) :
@Greg (Comment 18) : you mean other than the couple of thousand people who read what I write every day?
Naaaah ๐
@robdylan (Comment 20) : But most of them support the sharks, so not really a good sample ๐
@robdylan (Comment 10) :
๐
@Greg (Comment 21) :
We wanted to sample some Lions fans, but it was taking too long to teach them to read.
@Big Fish (Comment 22) : I thought maybe you couldn’t find enough!
@Greg (Comment 23) :
๐
@Big Fish (Comment 24) : A couple of wins though, and they will all start coming out of the woodwork ๐
@Greg (Comment 25) : we have lots of them… they like to check what’s going on here and then make rude comments about us somewhere else ๐
@robdylan (Comment 26) : ๐ I can only guess where.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 27) : it’s some thing like “we eat fish.com”… “we walk slowly.com”…. no, that’s not it easy. “men make fire.com”? Hell, can’t remember. Something like that.
glad Keegan is ok
@robdylan (Comment 28) : ๐
@Greg (Comment 25) :
In time I have come to differentiate them from the likes of you, CSB etc.
They are the ones who only comment when the Lions win. ๐
@Big Fish (Comment 31) : Like a certain decepticon that only comments when the Sharks lose ๐ฟ
@robdylan (Comment 28) : ”We’ve got rabies.com” ๐ก
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 32) :
I see you recognise the smell. ๐
@Greg (Comment 18) :
๐
gee what am i doing and that to a snoil fan
just kidding
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 33) : Nice ๐
@Big Fish (Comment 34) : @robdylan (Comment 36) :
cheetahs just wacked southern kings 45-17 ๐ณ ๐ณ ๐ณ
I still rate kanko as the best no 8 for the sharks and for the boks!
@ruggabugga (Comment 38) : hmmm is it true that the bulls are playing against themselves this weekend to make sure they get a win? ๐
@robdylan (Comment 17) : Keegan Daniel, the *real* Tiger Woods of rugby…
@Original Champion (Comment 40) : we’re in no position to throw stones ๐
@Culling Song (Comment 41) : except I don’t believe Keegan is a man-whore… ๐
@robdylan (Comment 42) : How about brandy and coke then?
@Original Champion (Comment 44) : Then you won’t make it to the game…
GO BLITZBOKKE !!! ๐ฎ

PAUL JORDAAN !!! GAS MAAAANNNNN !!!!!!!
@Charlie (Comment 47) : Which province is he from?
@Original Champion (Comment 40) : @robdylan (Comment 42) :
We have already played against ourselves – and lost.
@Original Champion (Comment 48) : I know he was at Grey Kollege…
HARD LUCK BLITZBOKKE ๐
Well that was a blow out . . .
Lets hope for a better result this afternoon.
Tonight can go either way, we know Stormers are in better shape than the Lions, so either we`ll be elated or devastated LOL
Lets be positive guys!
๐ @Original Champion (Comment 52) :
@Charlie (Comment 50) : @Original Champion (Comment 48) : don’t you okes read ANY of the articles here? We have mentioned on about 100 occasions in the last 6 months that Jordaan has signed with the Sharks
@robdylan (Comment 54) : Good to know! Tell me he`s a centre!
@robdylan (Comment 54) : Hey Rob, are the 2011 Academy signings still regarded as classified information?
PS not the main ones that you’ve already confirmed.
@robdylan (Comment 54) : You better do your work, it’s what you get paid for…Maybe it was mentioned in one of those 100 long articles… ๐
@Original Champion (Comment 55) : inside centre/ flyhalf
@war1 (Comment 58) : hmmmm How soon can he join us?
It`d be interesting to see if the Lambie/Bosman combination is more effective tonight. Maybe things broke down because Lambie had to move to fullback on Tuesday?
@beet (Comment 56) : I have a man on the inside, of course… will reveal them in due course
@Original Champion (Comment 59) : look, I don’t think our situation is anywhere near desperate enough that we have to throw an 18 year old into Super Rugby ๐
Remember that Bosman and JLP formed a superb combo for the Cheetahs 2 years ago. They will also gel, even if Pat does end up at fullback.
If Pat ends up at FB I will be forced to resort to harsh language and throwing sticky wet biltong at the television. I know it’s tough with a talent like his which can adapt to the backline at the drop of a hat, but for Pete’s sake (and by the way, who was Pete?) he didn’t stick 25 points on the board on the Day of Days as a fullback. If that wasn’t a sign from above that our hallowed Young Dude is supposed to wear the 10, then what else do we need? Angels playing harps on the sideline? A massive great finger of light descending from the heavens to the calls of trumpets? Cherabim and seraphim cavorting in fluffy white clouds forming a halo around him? Pushing Pat from pillar to post, irrespective of whether he is just glad to be out there, is going to do him a serious disservice in the long run. And in the process is going to do the team a serious disservice. He’s not Morne Steyn, he’s not Frans Steyn, he’s Patrick Lambie. Original. Irreplaceable. And perhaps South African rubgy’s greatest long-term asset. Here endeth the sermon.
@Original Champion (Comment 59) : He is contracted to the sevens squad. He will join the academy when the Currie cup starts.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 62) : Lambie for flyhalf!
Just have to share this: latest retweet: Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table because he only recognised the element of surprise.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 62) : sounded like you were about to start up a hymn there… ๐
I agree with you, BTW… I would always pick him at flyhalf where possible, but it’s gonna be a long season and maybe a game or two at fullback could have some benefits… for one, it might give him a little bit of respite from the mental torture that playing flyhalf entails. It might also allow him to hone his counter-attacking skills from a position where he has a bit more space and time.
Jacques-Louis Potgieter is also a fine flyhalf and it makes no sense to play Pat into the ground when we have such quality depth in the squad.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 62) : That for me is the million dollar question this season. How much better is Pat Lambie the flyhalf still going to get – has he almost peaked or was his 2010 season ending form just the tip of the iceberg? If itโs the latter, he is going to be huge.
Agree Rob, specially considering that rather large rugby tournament looming in September… Playing him into the ground is not an option this year, and one or two games at FB would probably round him out nicely. What I have an issue with is starting him at FH then switching him to FB half way through a game. I have never played rugby. Was a showjumper and tennis player (thighs of steel and a wicked double handed backhand) So I can’t attest to the mental torture you speak of at FH, but can appreciate the pressure of expectation it puts on the incumbent. But pressure is relative… It’s how you handle it that counts. Lesser men than Pat have managed without the added pressure of being just as good in another position. Which kind of moves on nicely to Beet’s point: I would like to think that the 2010 finale was the tip of the iceberg, and a glimpse of things to come. Once Pat’s naivety regarding his age and ability has passed and he fully appreciates that he is where he is because he deserves to be, I think he will mature into one of the finest players this country has yet to produce. In my humble opinion (and it is humble, because I know relatively little about rugby) Pat is driven and a lot hungrier than his natural humility will allow him to express. I think there’s a touch of dark horse beneath the boyish exterior – a wolf in sheep’s clothing if you will (no obvious pun intended) – which when he learns to harness properly will take him to the pinnacle of this sport. If I’m wrong (and I rarely am coz I’m a woman) then I’ll retire from public life and become a Blue Bulls supporter.
@robdylan (Comment 17) : Amen to that comment!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 62) : Now *that’s* a sermon I can really get into…
@beet (Comment 67) : I’m leaning towards the tip of the iceberg myself; after all, I think he’s already demonstrated the requisite temperament and talent. What he lacks is experience, a commodity that can only improve him. Other than a serious injury, it’s hard to think that there could be anything that might cause him to regress.
