Sharks Vodacom cup coach Sean Everitt will put his charges through their paces in a trial game tomorrow afternoon, aimed to help him finalise his best XV ahead of the competition. At the request of the John Plumtree, a number of players in the Super Rugby squad deemed short of game time will be given a run as well.
Among the latter group are the names of Adi Jacobs, Riaan Swanepoel, Conrad Hoffman and the once-again on-trial SWD Eagles loose forward, Jacques Engelbrecht. All of these players have been included in one team, while the other team includes those players that, at this stage, look most likely to be Everitt’s probables for the Vodacom Cup. A number of interesting positional selections have been made, with Dan Adonga at lock and Piet Lindeque on the wing.
A pair of other “on trial” players will play for the other team, in prop Phil Nel and winger Piet Peens.
Vodacom Cup probables:
15 Kobus de Kock, 14 Mark Richards, 13 Trompie Pretorius, 12 Howard Mnisi, 11 Piet Lindeque, 10 Guy Cronje, 9 Ross Cronje, 8 Marcell Coetzee, 7 Lambert Groenewald, 6 Farncois Kleinhans, 5 Dan Adonga, 4 Jandre Marais, 3 Francois Hanekom, 2 Kyle Cooper, 1 Sabelo Nhlapo
Others:
15 Wynand Pienaar, 14 Piet Peens, 13 Adrian Jacobs, 12 Riaan Swanepoel, 11 Rosco Speckman, 10 Fred Zeilinga, 9 Conrad Hoffman, 8 Jacques Engelbrecht, 7 Lee Thompson, 6 Cam Dunlop, 5 Kene Okafor, 4 Byron Egan, 3 Phil Nel, 2 Hannes Snyman, 1 Rob Harris
Reserves will be shared amongst the two teams. The following players are on the combined bench:
Dale Chadwick, Monde Hadebe, Jody Jenneker, Shaun Malton, Johan Schoonbee, Cobus Reinach, Willie du Plessis, Dwayne Jenner, Luzuko Vulindlu, Heimar Williams, Jaco van Tonder, Gouws Prinsloo

Luckily Piet Peens is a winger othersiwe he might lose an “e” if he was a prop and become Piet Pens! ๐
Thanks Rob, the likes of Adi, Swannie and Hoffie really needed another game before the season starts. I hope this goes well for Vleis too.
GO OTHERS !!! ๐
@war1 (Comment 2) : really bummed not to see Zuks’ name there. Guess the hammie must still be worrying him
name-dropping time… I have 11 of the 30 on BBM ๐
@robdylan (Comment 5) : and this makes you feel warm & fuzzy i guess ๐ what a groupie.
@robdylan (Comment 5) : The Sharks XV is playing a warm up game in my hometown next Friday ๐
Sharks Xv .Look ver strong .Nice squad to feed into the Super squad .Hope Kyle Cooper will make huge inroads this year .
@Charlie (Comment 3) : The start to Adi’s Vodacom Cup greatness ๐
Squads are quite balanced me thinks, the Cronje twins should have been split up to keep it interesting.
How old are the Cronje’s now?
isn’t it about thime they start delivering on the promise they showed as kids?
@Megatron (Comment 6) : Back again, eh? Where’s your cuz, is he still in the u21’s?
@Megatron (Comment 6) : I have your cousin too ๐
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 9) : Looking forward to it, you have to start somewhere ๐
@KSA Shark ยฉ (Comment 11) : They seem to neva grow old…might be the problem… ๐
@CapeShark (Comment 12) : in the final stages of rehab after a knee injury. Will prob go back to 7s when he’s fixed
Interesting to see Howard Mnisi at 12. I think his style of play makes him better suited to this position.
Wynand Pienaar must still be off trying to regain form after his injury. Hopefully he’ll step things up in this trial and make the he starting place at the back his own.
@robdylan (Comment 16) : Rob are the public allowed to watch this game โ
Where is Jenner โ
Lions have named a very average looking B side to take on the Kings. So much more depth available to the Sharks XV.
@beet (Comment 18) : don’t know, but doubt it.
Re q2, I will ask… also not sure where Heimar Williams, Keiran Goss and a whole bunch of other guys are.
I will ask. Assuming they may be benching
@Speed7 (Comment 19) : battling to understand your agenda… you seem to loathe the Sharks, but love the Sharks XV? ๐
I don’t have an agenda. Obviously I support the Lions but also prefer everything going in one direction ie whatever is good for the Boks. If that means Beast starting in an all Bok front row then that is enough for me.
At the same time I do love a bit of wind-up.
Oh. Shit. Now I remembered. I really don’t mind the Sharks at all. They play such a good brand of rugby. Its the one-eyed supporters who I loathe. Sorry.
@Speed7 (Comment 24) :
We cant all have your charisma and tact. ๐
I know. Sharks XV still gonna do well though.
@Speed7 (Comment 24) : you spend a lot of time with people you loathe. Masochist
Haha. Keeping the enemy close. Need to know how you guys think. Maybe I could learn from you.
Is Dan Adonga def going to stay a forward?
I really hoped he could move to the back somewhere.
So Steve Walsh to ref our first game, guess its better than Pro… still dont like the guy tho!
@KSA Shark ยฉ (Comment 11) : The twins are 21 turning 22 this year. They still young give them time. How do you get into the team if you never get a shot. A couple of years ago Ross was in the super14 squad now he is back at vodacom cup. The Hoffman and JLP purchase pushed the twins further down the pecking order. I might be biased but I think the twins are really good. I watched Guy play for Rovers a few seasons ago in a final and he was back down the left hand touchline for a clearence kick from the opposition. He received the ball just inside the opposition 50m (about 40m) and slotted a drop goal from the touchline to win the match! Thats pretty good for 19/20 year old playing in a senior team.
@CapeShark (Comment 12) : he is playing 7’s this year, but he’s been injured.
Deysel? :(:(
@Charlie (Comment 3) : do us proud Charlie i think you need alot of practice its only going to make your game a much better one after all the injury you had
