With the start of the Super Rugby season upon us, let’s have a look at what the bookmakers say regarding their favourites to win the inaugural competition, along with the conference favourites.
Overall winner odds:
Crusaders – 3/1
Bulls – 7/2
Stormers – 8/1
Hurricanes – 9/1
Waratahs – 9/1
Reds – 10/1
Blues – 14/1
Sharks – 16/1
Brumbies – 20/1
Chiefs – 22/1
Rebels – 60/1
Force – 80/1
Lions – 90/1
Cheetahs – 100/1
Highlanders – 100/1
On to the individual conference winner:
Australia:
Waratahs – 18/10
Reds – 3/1
Brumbies – 3/1
Force – 7/1
Rebels – 12/1
New Zealand:
Crusaders – 8/10
Hurricanes – 9/2
Blues – 9/2
Chiefs – 6/1
Highlanders – 20/1
South Africa:
Bulls – 8/10
Stormers – 2/1
Sharks – 3/1
Cheetahs – 20/1
Lions – 20/1
From the above you can see that the Sharks are clearly not favourites to do well this season, and that if you believe the Sharks will do well, now is the time to climb in and make some money.

Thats what they said in the 2010 CC as well….
And looked what happened then………..Alll of them were 😳 😳 😳
Good Luck to the Stormers. You are once again labeled as a big contender and favourite. 😆
@SharksRTB (Comment 2) :
WP Media must have infiltrated the Bookmaking scene. 😆
My favoutire bet from this article would be the Blues to win the NZ conference.. good value there!
Sharks are dead centre in 8th position. Good, I dont like the favourites tag.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 3) : To their detriment….
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) :
…you have to be a gambler to back against the Saders Rich ! 😎
I can get 11 to one on Bulls top SA conference coupled with SA win world cup !!
Yeah, it`s a long shot
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 7) :
I am a gambler…
@Original Champion (Comment 8) : I can get Cheap Black Golf Shirts that have the the All Black logo on the chest that has been altered to say “4 more years”. I’ll take those.
I wouldn’t take your bet. 🙂
Well, if you consider that the Sharks finished 9th last season, then the bookies have taken their resurgence in the Currie Cup into account and moved them up in the pecking order to the mid-table. Still, i reckon with their settled squad and two decent flyhalves (something we’ve always lacked)the Sharks will make some decent money for the toters.
Stormers above the Waratahs and Reds at 8/1? That’s a bit generous. 😐 I also think the Hurricanes are a bit overrated on that table… Put money on the Reds, they’ve been killin everyone in their warm ups…
Sharks at 16/1 could be very good value.
Let’s see how the rebels go in their game vs tahs..
I see Rob Houwing on N24 has done an article and says the Sharks will lead the way for the SA teams.
@bergshark (Comment 14) :
They will do much better than any of the previous newcomers IMO.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 16) : I agree, Force, Highlanders and Cheetahs will compete for the wooden spoon.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 17) : Definitely bottom of the conferences but for the overall log.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 17) :
I tend to agree, although the Highlanders and Chiefs will be giving each other a good go IMO.
Still think the stormers can beat crusaders in nz.
The centre combo of jean div /j fourie / j d j ,is better than fruean/sbw..
And I would start with elgar watts @fh.
@bergshark (Comment 20) :
JdV/Fourie better than Fruean/Williams????? 😯 😯
That is one that i think will change everytime they meet.
@bergshark (Comment 20) : Carter will be all over them . . .
Going to be a helluva scrap for top spot in SA conference.
@bergshark (Comment 20) : Think we had this chat before. But let me just say again, I don’t agree with you here.
@bergshark (Comment 20) : Watts looked pretty average against boland. What do you think is gonna happen if he plays opposite dan carter?
@Ben (Comment 25) :
Get’s smoked ! 😎
@bergshark (Comment 20) :
😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 26) : He’s more like gonna be evaporated!
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 27) : So HH I haven’t asked you this yet. Which NZ team do you support?
@Ben (Comment 29) :
Hahahahaha !
The Southern most franchise Ben ! 😎
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 30) : Come again?
