The Chiefs Official website have announced their team to take on the Brumbies in round one of the Investec Super Rugby competition.

The first round of the extended competition has been branded by SANZAR as the “Disaster Relief Round” in dedication of the people who have been affected by the recent natural disasters and to raise awareness of how people can help those that have been affected in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The game will be played at Canberra Stadium on Saturday the 19th of February with kick off at 9.40pm (NZT).

Chiefs’ Coach Ian Foster said “we as a team are satisfied with the preparation to date and we are fully aware of the need to lift the intensity as we go from the pre-season games to round one. The Brumbies are a tough team to play at home but we are excited about getting into the competition and we are more than ready to go.”

Fritz Lee will make his Super Rugby debut at the back of the scrum in the number 8 jersey with Tana Umaga, Daniel Perrin, Hayden Triggs and Scott Waldrom donning the Chiefs jersey for the first time in their Super Rugby careers.

“We congratulate Fritz, Tana, Dan, Hayden and Scott on making the Chiefs 22 for the first time in their playing careers” added Ian Foster.

  • Welcome back Umaga. Its good to see the old man still playing, doubt though if he will have the same impact for the Chiefs like Oupa Stef has for us had his age.

  • Why is masaga on the bench?? Nanai-williams is that guy with the dangerous stepping skills.
Like the play of latimer and messam also.

  • @bergshark (Comment 14) : I guess something had to give in the Chiefs back 3 and it so happened to be usually brilliant Masaga. Nanai-Williams is a flashy 21 year old player. I’m sure he has an outside chance of making the ABs.
