Continuing the fight against cancer

As regular readers will know, we are passionate about a number of causes here at Sharksworld: supporting the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is more definitely one of those and our pink jersey campaign last year helped to raise R13 000, thanks to the amazing generosity of our readers.

Continuing in that vein, I’d like to share a message from one of our regulars, Greg, who is taking part in the 2011 CANSA Shavathon this weekend.

“A while back, during the Currie cup, the Sharks had a campaign to raise awareness and funds for CANSA. They did this by, amongst other things, wearing a pink shirt for the game against the Cheetahs. At that time I mentioned that I would be shaving my hair in the then upcoming CANSA Shavathon. A few of you expressed an interest in sponsoring me, and helping to raise funds.

That time has arrived!!

On Friday 4 March, the company for whom I work, will be hosting a corporate shavathon, and I WILL be taking it all off!

Your support, in any way, will be greatly appreciated. All moneys raised in this initiative, by all employees, gets pooled together, and the total amount is matched by the company, in accordance with the social awareness policy. This means that any sponsorship raised by myself will be doubled.

As evidenced by the pictures, I have been carefully cultivating my hair for a while. It is now of a length that not only will I just be shaving it off, but I will be able to bag the hair, and make it available for the use of wig making.

Should you wish to make a donation to this worthy cause, you can contact me on the specially created email address : [email protected]

  • You go boy! Good luck and I hope you make a lot of dough 😀 My hair is always short (no1 once a month) so there’s not much to shave off.

  • Hi Greg.

    Good Stuff.

    How do we donate?
Who do you work for, their generosity in match whatever you guys raise, should earn them some publicity IMO.

  • @robdylan (Comment 11) : In a way yeah, but remember, I’m south of the equator, winter’s coming, and my neck is going to be cold 😆

  • @Greg (Comment 14) : oh ja – fair enough.

As you may know, nature has given me that sort of hairstyle anyway, so a beanie and scarf are my best friends in the long cold winter months!

  • @Greg (Comment 17) : Just want to lend you my support Greg, lost both my dad, step-dad and mom-in-law to the Big C and our local CANSA people were outstanding. All power to you, and I am sure SW can forward you plenty of Sharks beanies if your Lions one gets too dirty!

  • @Greg (Comment 14) : Nice one Greg. I could send you a decent scarf, spring is springing in France so with summer on the way I won’t be needing it.

  • @SharonvanWyk (Comment 18) : Sorry to hear that, it is a terrible disease. Many people with whom I have been in contact with throughout my life have succumbed. I do it though, for those who are still with us.

  • @robdylan (Comment 20) : I have a cheese grater with a Lion’s logo too 😆

Funny story, I was at a Lions/sharks game at the park, a few of the group were sharks, including a young girl about six years. It poured ith rain, and I lent the girl my jacket. The mother was seriously torn between keeping her warm, and allowing her to wear a Lion jacket 😆
