The Brumbies’ week from hell hit a new 16 year low last night.

Five days after the club sacked coach Andy Friend, the Brumbies struggled to get their game together at Canberra Stadium. The Queensland Reds ended a 16-year drought in Canberra as Quade Cooper kicked his side to a six-point win.

”It’s the first time we’ve won over here and I think the most pleasing thing is we did it in a very mature way,” Reds stand-in skipper Will Genia said. ”It’s a way that we’ve won a game that we haven’t played before, not the razzle dazzle but the smart tactical kicking and just taking points that are on offer.”

RugbyHeaven Aus reports that the ACT side slumped to the ground after the final siren. The players knew what a win could have done for them and their supporters.

The Brumbies struggled early, giving away silly penalties. It got worse when Matt Giteau put a restart out on the full just 11 minutes in.

Giteau denied noticing heckling from sections of the crowd in support of Friend. ”No one hurts more than the players, so as much as you probably feel if you support the Brumbies you’re hurting, we’re hurting a lot more,” he said.

”Everyone’s pretty gutted. I think for the second week now we’ve created history for another club [after last week’s loss to new franchise Melbourne]. That’s not a good thing.”

  • Nothing better than a good bit of player power to mess a side up completely.

And Giteau is probably not only involved but probably one of the ring leaders.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : Wasn’t Giteau the ring leader in Perth against Mitchell? Personally I think he is an arrogant little shit that is far to big for his boots.

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 4) : I believe he was at the forefront. I also believe he IS a git who can’t handle a coach who requires discipline.
