Imagine Oz-land being a dart board…..Fridays clash against the Rebels, could prove to be a significant occasion for the Team in Black and White. If the Sharks (or should I say WHEN)Β π Β the Sharks step out of the game as victors, they would have achieved something they could never get right before: Winning all their tour matches Down Under.
The Sharks has always been found wanting in Wallaby country over the years.
After their overseas tour started with a win over the Force in Perth, the books will be rewritten if the Sharks beat the Rebels on Friday.
Β According to Rod Macqueen, coach of the Rebels, who was at the helm of the Wallabies when they won the World Cup in 1999, they will have to keep the Sharksβ pack in check if they are going to stand any chance against the current log leaders.
At a news conference in Melbourne, Macqueen said that there is not a more aggressive and physical pack in Vodacom Super Rugby than the one of the Sharks.
βI have a lot of respect for the Sharks. They are probably one of the most feared teams in Super Rugby. We cannot get a better measure of our strength than this game. I trust that our pack will be up for the task. In the scrums it will be about technique more than weight and strength,β he said.
βThe pack just has to see to it that they get more quality possession to the backline to be able to launch attacks.β
The Sharks has not conceded a try this year which will make it even more difficult for the Rebels as they have only managed to score twice in three games.
Letβs hope for a Bulls-eye for the Sharks on Friday!
(Information obtained from Beeld)

And the Rebels have been handed a game on a silver platter.
@Ben (Comment 1) : Jinxed? π
Tsk Tsk! oh ye of little faith! πΏ
@Ice (Comment 2) : Come again?
Wonder which Rebels side will rock up this week, the LMS destroyers or the Lambs who just go through the motions . . .
Ben comment 1: not really sure what you mean by your comment?!?
@Ben (Comment 3) : Why do you say Rebels have been handed the game? Because of my article on a “Milestone” for the Sharks?
@ruggabugga (Comment 5) : I mean they were lucky to win and didn’t deserve their win. So we will win easily.
@Ice (Comment 6) : I’m talking about the Brumbies Rebels game
@ruggabugga (Comment 5) :
He is refering to the Brumbies match when Kaplan gave a nothing penalty at the death for the Rebels to win ..I think..
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 9) : Spot on.
@Ben (Comment 8) : Ahhhhhh – I do apologise then…misunderstanding! π
I just hope we take this game as seriously as if it were the Crusaders.
@Ice (Comment 11) : Haha no problems. Sorry for confusing you. π
@Ben (Comment 13) : I am sure KSA and a few others will let you know that THAT is not a difficult task! π
@Ice (Comment 14) : Haha π
Totally with you Ben….
@ruggabugga (Comment 16) : I’m happy everyone understands me now! π
Anyone else hear about this ..got it off Silverfern ..?
RobD should be thrilled if this goes through …
3/9/2011 6:00 AM The Sharks have confirmed the Crusaders have spoken to them about shifting their Super 15 match to London after the damage to AMI Stadium in the Christchurch earthquake.
The Sharks have confirmed they’ve been approached by the Crusaders to stage their Super Rugby match in London.
But the Sharks will wait until after this weekend’s match against the Rebels in Melbourne before deciding whether to agree.
It’s understood the Sharks will make a rugby decision after consulting all their stake holders.
Well I for one think one should never ever underestimate the opposition and take any game as a sure victory.. π when will the sharks fans ever learn ??
So from hamilton to london.. Then to sa .. Actually think travelling to london and then to sa might be to our advantage-shorter return flight home to dbn.
Also,playing crusaders in london (twivkenham?_) would be awesome opportunity to showcase sharksrugby -if they bring their a-game..
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 18) : I think it’s a bad idea….travelling from NZ to England and back to SA in 1 week is just silly!
@bergshark (Comment 20) : Bro were you impressed with the Saders this weekend?
Macqueen gonna have those rebs psyched for this friday’s game.. Sharks gotta front_up and be ready and in the zone when they run on to the field.
@Pokkel (Comment 21) :
Sure there is lots to be considered here ..more cons than pro’s I reckon ..but then its also a Golden opportunity for Sharks rugby to really shine as a union for themselves ..this match I presume will also serve as a Charity for the Earthquake and that should go a long way in showing the calibre of the Union ..
But the logistics on such short notice will be a nightmare ..
@bergshark (Comment 19) : No one said that we will take it – I think its’ a matter of “hope” being aired – thats all…
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 18) : I’ve heard the rumours too… hardly daring to believe it might be true, though!
Getting UK visas for all the players at such short notice could be a nightmare.
@robdylan (Comment 26) :
Oh hell I didn’t even think about visa’s.
@Ben: unfortunately I couldn’t watch the saders vs tahs game and have not been able to catch any replays or even hi-lites π but they mustve been good.they impress you?just glad the tahs been beaten.
@robdylan:perhaps their visas will get fast-tracked-game is only in 2 weeks time.sharks will only have to travel to london on saturday19th.gives the officials bit of time .
@bergshark (Comment 28) : Yeah dude, Sonny Bill Williams and Robbie Threaun tore the Tahs apart. You should try and watch the game and then tell me again that the stormers will be able to beat them. π
@Ben (Comment 30) : Robbie Fruean, sorry.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 18) : Read that Saders would like to move a few games to London. Thought our game would appeal going the London route, cause of the huge amount of support that both teams will get there. I think it would be a fatal mistake by Sharks to agree to this. Cause the travel would be too much. We there already next week, will be settled after the Chiefs game, let us just get on with it and play it at Nelson, where they are playing their games right now.
If we had to travel from SA to London to meet Saders to play, no problem. Not after our long away tour. Saders will be our last game on tour. By that time we will just want to come home and be fresh to face Stormers at the Tank. So really hope we don’t agree to it.
@robdylan (Comment 26) : i don’t think the visas will be a major issue as it will be done through new zealand. other than the hectic travel plans, this could benefit the sharks as the support for the sharks is strong in the uk and it will be a home game for both teams. added to this the sharks have an extra day turnaround time as their game is on friday and crusaders is on saturday. this may not be a bad idea for the sharks to go ahead with.
@Puma (Comment 32) : both teams have to face the same travel arrangements. sharks luckier though as they have an extra day. also it means the sharks will have a lot of fans there for the game.
@Ben: I still reckon the weepee backline can run those kiwi’s off their feet.don’t underestimate the jdv/jf/jdj trio.they will all 3 be up for the challenge of the saders centres.
I’m no fan of the weepee,though.
i think playing the game in london is good on many levels.
firstly both teams will suffer the same issues.
secondly the sharks head back to their time zone a week earlier.
thirdly support will be even, so no home ground advantage.
fourth this will be a great advert for super rugby, where most people in the uk think it is a circus
fifth the cause is noble and it will show the sharks as a union that cares.
i say lets go to london and do our part. rob can give us match day reports.
@bergshark (Comment 35) : Just try and watch the Saders game bud.
@try time (Comment 36) : add to that the crusaders will have more time in south africa to prepare to beat the bulls. this also benefits us in a big way.
@bergshark (Comment 29) : If the POMS work the same way as the USA does, then you can only apply for a visa at the Embassy in your country of residence.
@try time (Comment 36) : Agree with you.
Special circumstances sometimes see red tape thrown out the window..
@try time (Comment 34) : We would be daft to accept it. I know it is for a good cause, think the money they make will go to the towards the Christchurch Disaster Fund.
The travel back here is long enough. Going to London is just pure crazy. Remember we play Stormers on the Saturday we come home. We have to win all our home games. We hardly gonna be fresh after our tour down under. Never mind to travel to London then back here. I tell you we do that we will never beat Stormers at the Tank. We will be tired.
Saders have not travelled yet, they wont be as tired as our team. Crazy, must not do it.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 18) : Heard something on the radio about this π
@Puma (Comment 42) : yes but it effects both teams. and jetlag isn’t as much of a factor as they wil travel west.
@Puma (Comment 42) :
More or less same time difference ..but I see your point.
@Puma (Comment 42) : and the flight from london to sa is overnight giving us more preparation for the stormers game. it is a great idea
@try time (Comment 46) : I think what he means is, we will play the Saders on a friday in NZ and then fly back afterwards. In england they will play on saturday most likely and only fly back after that.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 45) : We fly normally from Chch to Sydney get a connecting flight from there to Jhb. From Chch to Sydney think it is 3 hours, then a non-stop flight via Sydney to Jhb is 14 hours, then a hour to Durbs. That is a 18 hour flight. Flying to London form NZ will be far longer than 24 hours. Think a they stop in Sinapore. (not sure) But the flying time is horrendous. We would be completely mad to accept it. Boys must just play it at Nelson. Then head home and be ready to face Stormers.
Would never have been a problem flying from SA to play Saders in London. But not having being on tour for 3 weeks then fly all the way to London then back home. Just plain foolish if we do it.
@Puma (Comment 48) : typos – Singapore
@Puma (Comment 48) :
It all adds up and this being a much longer season I hear your concerns.
It most likely will be via Singapore.
But if it turns out to be a team decision and not just forced onto the players then I say go for it.
Trust me you should be able to beat the Stormers tired or not given their current form π
@Ben (Comment 47) : Not a good idea. Team will be settled in NZ to play.
We must also remember what kind of condtions will we play in NH?
Can’t see Sharks agreeing to it.
When is the Sharks’ 1st bye?
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 50) : It is total madness. We will be settled in NZ by then. Not to suddenly fly to London. We won’t have enough time to train there. Far to hectic. Sharks must play at Nelson. Come home and be ready to beat Saders. π
@Puma (Comment 53) : meant – Come home and beat Stormers. π
@Ben (Comment 52) : Week 9
Eish , Ben’s negativity is wearing me down π³ lets just do it π Nothing personal meant Ben π
No questions … Sharks are going to maul the aussies. Just got to keep the momentum going. I can’t see the Twickers game happening … not beneficial to either team.
He’s just trying to talk up the Sharks pack, in the hope that they will not pitch for the game.
@SharkyTaylor (Comment 56) : Guess youre referring to comment 1? I wasn’t being negative at all. I meant that the Rebels were handed the game against the Brumbies on a silver platter. Seems almost everyone miss understood that comment. SHARKS WILL WIN PEOPLE!!!!!!
