The Proteas face off agaisnt the Black Caps today in the third quarter final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. All the SA stars are fit again, with AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel all set to join the starting line up again. New Zealand stars Kyle Mills and Daniel Vettori should both be fit again and ready to take us on.

This WC jingle has really grown on me ..just wish I knew what they are saying init ..
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 22) :
Huh?? π―
@wpw (Comment 24) : Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. π π
@wpw (Comment 19) : Yesterday? No, they didn’t play, it’s there in the schedule, you can read, can’t you?
@wpw (Comment 26) :
Are u fishing ..bait, tackle ..fishing rod ..you have been a master at it for years now π
Robbie P opening the bowling.
@Greg (Comment 28) : What is that drink?
Peterson my man opening the bowling.
Is 10h30 too early to crack open a cold one ..?
Robbie P to open the bowling.
Tight start by Robbie P.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 33) : Only if you got out of bed after 10.
Black caps with 4 spinners in the side π―
Steyn taking the other end. I love this boy. π
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 37) : So? We’ve got 5. π
@McLovin (Comment 36) :
π I like the way you think.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 16) : Definately better than rugby. Don`t understand it at all. I thought I knew a lot more about rugby than those noisy bikes with the hot umbrella girls! π
Symcox is lame.
@klempie (Comment 31) : I call it a ‘Lion’s Roar’, one half red sambuca, one half delgado.
Robbie P first wicket!
@klempie (Comment 42) :
Sure but not as bad as Klusner!
Peterson on fire takes the 1st wicket !
Robbie!!!
Caught and bowled. McCullum goes. HUGE wicket!!!
@Original Champion (Comment 41) :
Gotta love the umbrella girls ! π
Great stretch by Robbie P. The opening spin option has done the job again. Where are all the Biff haters? π
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 12) :
If you want the early bru point it has to be in before qualifying..
@Greg (Comment 43) :
Sambuca ..Wooooo ..dangerous stuff, I quit it as a rule after my 21 st π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 49) :
Cheers ! Thanks !
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 50) : My one and only indulgence!
@Greg (Comment 43) : How long do they stay separate with that plastic thing between them?
@klempie (Comment 27) :
Make that 15 nuts and our leading wicket taker!! π π
@klempie (Comment 53) : Until you drink it! The centre divider is part of the glass itself.
@Greg (Comment 55) : Oh right. I’m a teetotaler so I don’t know much about the technicalities. π
@klempie (Comment 56) : Me too, except for the sambuca!
@Greg (Comment 57) : Like I’m a vegetarian. Except for meat. π
@klempie (Comment 56) : There is a non-alcoholic version, we give to my girls on match day, Sparberry on one side, milk on the other, we all drink a toast when the game starts.
@Greg (Comment 59) :
Sparberry on one side, milk on the other
Grim! π
Me too , apart from Amarula or Baileys π
2nd wicket down.
@klempie (Comment 60) : Not if you are nine or ten years old π
OUT!!!
Slower ball by Steyntjie and Guptill spoons one to mid off where Botha is lying in wait.
16/2
WICKET π π
I don’t drink either. Except for wine. And beer. And whisky. And rum. And brandy….
@McLovin (Comment 66) : Pisshead… π π
@klempie (Comment 67) : He supports the stormers, need I say more? π
@Greg (Comment 68) : That’s normally an attribute one would associate with Bulls supporters though. Wonder if he’s hiding something. π
@Greg (Comment 68) : Plenty of wins to celebrate so far.
@klempie (Comment 69) : My drink of choice by far is wine. π
@McLovin (Comment 71) : OK, I’ll concede. You’re a Stormers poof. π
@klempie (Comment 72) : A proud one.
@klempie (Comment 72) : MWAHAHA π
@McLovin (Comment 73) : @SharkyTaylor (Comment 74) :
Pat symcox is the most irritating commentator ever!!! I rather hear the Aussies than him. He thinks is Mr Cricket know it all.
@klempie (Comment 72) : As oppossed to a stormers what? Aren’t they all β
@Greg (Comment 77) : The statement was deliberately redundant. π
@Mocho (Comment 76) : Agree.
End of the first 10.
NZ 34/2 π
Missed most of this game. Just had to rewind quick to see the wickets go.
We doing well for now.
Bowling PP taken immediately.
I think hash is probably faster than a few springbok backline players lol
@McLovin (Comment 71) :
Nothing better than a choice bottle of red !
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 84) : Oh yes. π Though I’m quaffing more white than red lately.
If the Proteas win, then the cricket world cup repeats the last rugby world cup with the Kiwis and Ausies falling out at the quarter final stage.
@McLovin (Comment 85) :
On a hot summers day in Cape Town ..don’t blame you.
Mmmm Im getting thirsty ! π
so crap so crap so crap lala lalal laaaa
Tahir on.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 87) : If only I was in Cape Town. π
Must not let them get away here. Another wicket would slow em down.
@kingshark (Comment 86) : Sadly, we won’t see England in the final.
@Mocho (Comment 83) : He’s certainly throwing himself into his fielding π
@kingshark (Comment 86) :
Interesting with the Poms in the semi .. π
A Saffer bowling a googly. Too freaking cool!

@McLovin (Comment 90) :
oh dear all this time I thought you were ..
@klempie (Comment 79) : Whose your best commentator? Mines is Pommie and Mike Haysman
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 96) : Queen’s country. At least they’ll be serving Saffa wine at the wedding.
@Mocho (Comment 97) :
Mark Nicholas and Jacksman
@McLovin (Comment 98) :
π Ill be in those parts in May and June. Is it warming up over there ?
@Mocho (Comment 97) :
Polly is quite decent.
Pommie has loads of ‘haters’ on twitter!! π π
@wpw (Comment 100) :
Pommie is too CNN for me ..
This pitch is looking dangerously close to my grans garden furniture ..won’t be easy chasing later imo.
Nice Tahir. Only 4 coming off that over.
@wpw (Comment 100) : Pom’s good. Decent bloke too. Polly irritates me with his silly chirps.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 102) : Yeah, looks that way to me too. Could be tough batting 2nd here.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 99) : Positively balmy today. 17 degrees C.
Speak of the devil. Here’s Pom.
@wpw (Comment 100) : I follow Pommie on Twitter , seems a nice bloke to me π
@McLovin (Comment 106) :
Pretty good for this time of year ..excellent hope its a good European summer always such a pleasure when its hot.
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 109) : Absolutely love those looong summer days. π
Score? Wickets? Overs?
Hey you know its possible to be a pants commentator and a good bloke and vice versa π
69/2
18 overs
Drinks
Need a wicket.
3.85 over at the moment. If we don’t get a wicket soon that run rate could climb.
@Puma (Comment 115) : meant – 3.85 per over.
@klempie (Comment 114) : Sure do Klempie.
Ryder 50.
84/2 off 22overs run rate of 3.82
They reckon team batting first has 5 wins @ Mirpur v 15 wins to the team batting second π
Hey what u guys sitting around and talking, get us a wicket….:)
@SharkyTaylor (Comment 120) : what they say about first innings score?
90/2 after 24.4 overs run rate of 3.65
first innings average is 218 π
100 up for 2.
128 for 2. 32 overs. Looks a good batting strip.
Can see Smith’s throat tightening up.
Come on Tahir !!
Whoop. Tahir wicket !!! 130 for 3.
Tahir strikes!!
Taylor top edges one into the deep.
130/3
If NZ get 3 runs from the next three balls, scorecard will read:
133/3 after 33.3 overs
Looking forward to next Tahir over.
Damn. Got Botha instead.
Another wicket they could be done. Nice one their by Tahir needed that wicket.
Did anyone just see that Alcolin wood glue ad? π
Styris looking dangerous.
I see the Rebels continue their yoyo effect with regard to results π―
Styris gone.
Needed that. Well done Morkel. Looking good now for us.
Morkel!!!
Styris drags a wide one from outside off onto his stumps.
New Zealand 153/4 (37.2 ov)
YES!!! WICKET
@SharkyTaylor (Comment 137) : π―
Morkel takes a wicket. π We should slow them down now. Run Rate was creeping up.
@klempie (Comment 143) : Rebels won 42-20…. π But I am glad – I had them up for a win! π
Another one
All fall down ????
Get in !!!!
Tahir gets another wicket… π
Smith captaincy here has been simply outstanding. π
Score please?
169 for 5 after 42 overs.
@Speed7 (Comment 150) : Thanks
171 for 5 after 43.
174 for 5 after 44.
Quote on Cricinfo :”Teams are sometimes hesitant to send a bowling all-rounder before a specialist batsman.New Zealand suffering from that Syndrome. Everyone knows that Williamson is too slow and no points are given for diplomacy at the World Cup”
Next ball Williamson hits it out the ground for SIX!
π π π
Big over. 187 for 5 after 45. First over of power play.
189 for 6 after 46.
196 for 6 after 47.
204 for 6 after 48.
@Greg (Comment 154) : LOL!!
Morkel slower ball beats Vettori all ends up. Bowled.
211 for 8 after 49.
Last over coming up.
2 wickets in 7 balls
come on π
And that’s that.
221/8.
222 required π
222 to win. Should be ok here. Don’t wilt today Proteas.
Come on Proteas 222 should not be difficult. We can’t get that then we don’t deserve to go through. But we should do it.
Amla gone.
Very, very, very, very unlucky.
27/1
6 overs
27 for 1 after 6. Smith owes us a big knock.
38 for 1 after 8.3.
46 for 1 after 9.4.
57 for 1 after 11.5.
60 for 1 after 13.
68 for 1 after 14.
69/2 after 14.3
Smith gone. Oram gets him. 69 for 2 now.
AB in. Could get exciting.
Evening all, anyone a little bit nervous !
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 180) : You should be π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 180) :
Yep, big, big game on Sunday.
81 for 2 after 18 overs. Iam outta here.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 181) : Feeling good ….. Kallis looks key ! We are well
in this !
@Salmonoid (Comment 182) :
SA 93/2 after 21 overs.
Only 3% of the punters on SB picked NZ to win π― π
SA 103/2 after 23 overs.
Kaliis gone! 47 off 75 balls.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 189) : Excellent test innings that. π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 190) :
112 runs needed off 152 balls
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 192) : good going. hope no choking .
108 needed, 26 overs gone, 7 wickets in hand.
De Villiers 29 from 37
Duminy 3 from 9
@rekinek (Comment 193) : I dont think they will
Duminy you arsehole.
@rekinek (Comment 193) : @Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 196) : I wouldn’t be suprised.
SA 121/4. Duminy bowled for 3 π
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 199) : WTF was he thinking?
YOU FUCKING ARSEHOLES!!!
proteas imploding?
@klempie (Comment 201) : heeeey…. slow down mr potty mouth!
Cough, cough. π
Bugger been out since we bowled come back and we DAMN 5 WICKETS DOWN. We lose this will never ever support the Proteas ever again.
Alway let us down.
121/5 π― And now I think they will choke.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 205) : Think batting on that pitch 2nd must be tough out there. BUT we should have been able to do this. For now can’t see us win this.
Go India if we lose it that is.
@klempie (Comment 201) :
That passion reminds me of a time when I felt the same towards the Proteas, sadly its long gone now.
@klempie (Comment 201) : what’s that call all about ! π
100 off 127 balls needed. 5 wickets in hand.
@Salmonoid (Comment 207) : π
Well there IS a bright side to this. Punter (who is right behind me) will not be getting a closest pick point as he picked a margin of 6 wickets. π
myself and 18 others picked 5. π IF we don’t lose another wicket our closest pick BP is going to be massive. π
@klempie (Comment 210) :
Luckily Ive still got it for rugby. π
@klempie (Comment 201) : You didn’t actually think we had a chance of winning the WC did you? Better to put those proteas out of their misery right now and get it over with. π
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 205) : shuush … you upset Klempie π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 211) : Got SA by 2 wickets.
@rekinek (Comment 214) :
Wish I picked NZ by 50 runs!
97 from 116
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 208) : What call?
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 211) :
I was waaaaaay too confident..
The noose is tightening.
SA just need to settle and keep getting singles..
We are not in trouble with the run rate
We still have magician Petersen to come!
Reminds me of Michael Hutchence from INXS.
SA 127/5 after 32 overs.
I’m out for a bit. Go Proteas!!
@klempie (Comment 219) : Comment 201
This is Faf’s time to shine..
We can do this..
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 226) : They’re batting like fucking arseholes! A blind man could see that!
@klempie (Comment 228) : Big Jake turn’s the match…… GAME ON !
Wicket!
Botha gone!!
Is there a doctor in the house? π
@McLovin (Comment 231) : Do you know why they’re chokers?
At least they’ll get to spend more time with their families now that they’re coming home early π
@klempie (Comment 232) : this should be interesting. π
@klempie (Comment 232) : Why?
Easy from here …. starting to look worth the late night !
@McLovin (Comment 235) : Cos they’re a bunch of XXXXXXXX!
@klempie (Comment 237) : Maybe now Biff will get dropped.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 238) : Biff’s captaincy was stellar today. He can’t do shit about these stupid batting decisions.
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 236) : Well done to NZ Hertford.
Said this could happen on another blog. Never take NZ for granted ever. They could beat any team on their day.
So well done NZ. Just finish us off quick and spare us the supporters the agony of watching this.
@klempie (Comment 239) : Agree. Smith captaincy was outstanding. It is the batsman letting us down. Not our captain.
Absolute wankers.
This is why I have a hard time getting too excited at Protea’s matches… groan. Oram is killing us.
C’mon England! π
@klempie (Comment 237) : Steady just because they are not good enough, and it’s 4:13 in the morning ! All over now time to give credit !
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 238) : NO KSA, Smith captaincy was outstanding today. IT is the BATSMEN letting us down.
Then have to say that pitch was gonna cause us trouble at night. But our batsmen are better than this.
We don’t deserve to go through mate. This has nothing to do with Smith.
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 236) : Congrats mate. We wanted you guys in the semi and we got what we asked for.
As my dad used to say. “Be careful what you ask for, you may just get it”
proTears….
@Puma (Comment 240) : π Educated call !
@McLovin (Comment 244) : Come on INDIA…hehe. WILL NEVER SUPPORT ENGLAND.
C’mon Dale and Dups
@klempie (Comment 239) :
Captain fantastic should be carrying his bat, innings after innings after innings.
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 245) : Whatever mate. With all respect, the Blackcaps have 78 points on the ODI Championship and are 8th on the log, while SA have 117 points and are second. You haven’t won this as much as we’ve lost it.
@Speed7 (Comment 242) : WHO ! π―
I’m somewhat surprised that some people are still surprised when the Vroteas choke. π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 249) : Well I have seen NZ beat us when we thought we would walk all over em in the past. Thought this could happen mate. So not that surprised.
Well done to your team. Hope they beat who they meet in the semi. ESPECIALLY if it is England. I will become a kiwi for a day…hehehe. You will have my support 100%. Can never support England with all their saffa POMS. NEVER.
If Biff & co say afterwards this wasn’t a choke then I might just choke. Or lose my lunch. Or both. π
@klempie (Comment 253) : Soak it up ! is that as much credit as you can dish up ! SAD ! π
Chokers! They will never get rid of the Chokers tag, much like NZ’s rugby team π
@McLovin (Comment 255) : Well I am not surprised.
GO NZ AND INDIA. The rest don’t care.
Out of here for now.
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 245) :
Well its not over yet, but well done to your team HH.
I don’t think many people gave them a chance
i can not believe this is happening yet AGAIN πΏ πΏ πΏ πΏ πΏ
@Puma (Comment 256) : π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 258) : Mate, I will be backing the Blackcaps from here on, but I’m not giving them credit for this win. It’s just a typical Proteas choke.
So what’s the score now guys?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 261) : Haven’t won yet still less than a run a ball, Punter !
Why is there no rugby tonight?
The Chokers live up to their reputation yet again.
A captain can’t be all that grand if he can’t prevent his boys choking all the time.
Time for some new ideas and new blood.
Well done NZ.
@klempie (Comment 264) : Not giving them the Blackcaps credit ! β π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 266) :
Win or lose, they played well above what was expected from them..
You deserve this match more than we do!
Last I checked there are 50 overs a match ..
Way to throw in the towl and get behind your team guys sheesh ..
π
@Big Fish (Comment 268) : π
SA 146/8. Need 76 from 74
Over bed time ! π
Lovely. π
No damn signal in JHB ..wonder if its on purpose π
Helluva storm up here !
Well done New Zealand. Proteas are unfixable.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 270) : π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 269) : No mate. I love the Blackcaps. But SA have thrown it away. You’ve not played any better than the Test teams we’ve beaten during the tourney.
Come Morkel yooouuu caaaan DO IT !!!
π
Just when you think the last choke was the worst, the Proteas step it up a level. π π π
@Speed7 (Comment 277) : π
@klempie (Comment 279) : π ok
Good captaincy indeed.
W Indies – 45 off 116
Netherlands – 20 off 57
England – 22 off 63
India – 16 off 39
Ireland – 7 off 43
Bangladesh – 45 off 86
New Zealand – 28 off 59
Great batting indeed. Anyone can MANAGE a team. a Captain leads from the front.
Powerplay taken.
Match will be over shortly. π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 282) : Congrats buddy. I hope your boys go all the way. π
Allan Donald looks funny in his NZ uniform.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 284) :
I sense a wicket is imminent. π
Need 72 off 66 Balls
Well atleast now I can just focus on the Lions playing rugby…
oh wait .. π
Can Tahir bat?
Where is a Albie Morkel when u need one π ..Morne will have to do.
@McLovin (Comment 292) : No.
I know exactly what is going to happen. The coach is going to get blamed and the players will be treated like they did nothing wrong. Its a joke I tell you all.
FAF HAS TO DO IT
@klempie (Comment 294) : Oh dear.
@franshark (Comment 296) :
I agree ..if Morkel can just hold up the one end ..its been done before at this very ground !
Fat lady ain’t sung just yet
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 284) : Have to agree πΏ
@McLovin (Comment 297) :
Well tonight he’ll have a bat ..
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 298) : She’s backstage, warming up. π
@franshark (Comment 296) : A miracle will have to happen here. That’s what will do it.
Powerplay going really well. π
@Ben (Comment 302) :
I believe in Miracle’s ..lalala π
Looks like we’re going for the draw. π π
60 to go, so near yet so far
@McLovin (Comment 303) : Yeh we haven’t lost any wickets! π
I refuse to except losing this game ..I hope FaF and M are on the same page here ..come guys !
@klempie (Comment 307) : Exactly.
Poor Tahir he must be shitting himself ..
@Ben (Comment 302) : Then we will call him miracle faf
I believe in miracles
Where’re you from,
you sexy thing, you
sexy thang you
I believe in miracles
since u came along,
you sexy thing
You guys had me convinced SA was a sure thing for the World Cup.
Got them at 5 to 1 odds! π―
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 310) : Probably chewed a hole in his seat by now.
South Africa require another 58 runs with 2 wickets and 47 balls remaining
FAF INDAHOUSE !!
My heart 66666666666666
FAFFFFFFFFIIIIEEEEEE!
Dropped and then a SIX. π
42.2
Oram to du Plessis, SIX
42.1
Oram to du Plessis, no run, dropped. Oram’s taken a couple of monster catches today, but can’t summon his inner Munaf Patel this time. Full toss on the middle and leg line, Faf clubs it right back and Oram can’t hold on.
That bad sportmanship by Mills may come back to bite him ..
but canβt summon his inner Munaf Patel this time
π
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag
Good night nurse. π₯
Noooooooo.
Oh well thats it then …Aaai jaaai
Can’t wait for the post match interviews.
Goodbye South Africa! π
How many more times can Dettori use Oram?
Tahir to save the day !!
Ghostbuster style
Can Morkel pull this off?
Cmon MORNE….
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 328) : 1 over left
Congrats NZ. π
HoW?! π
Well done cocksuckers. I am now sold. You’re a bunch of fucking chokers!
So who paid who how much to lose this one?
Well done New Zealand ! Well deserved win !
Proteas will carry this for decades to come ..
New Zealand 221/8 (50 ov)
South Africa 172/10 (43.2 ov)
New Zealand won by 49 runs
π₯ π₯ π₯
Chokers!! πΏ π πΏ Chokers!!
No Congrats to the Black Caps. Used their chances.
Oh well.
Hopefully we’ll return the favour at the rugby world cup later this year.
Its time for some wine !
Cheers all !
Well done New Zealand. π
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 342) : Great idea. π
Laters y’all. π
Hahahahahahahhaa
Biff had an hour to practise his excuse. Lets see what shat his dishes out π
sigh… it happened again, didn’t it?
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 346) : He doesn’t say it, but he knows they CHOKED! π
Well done to HH. In the semi’s and 4 points for a bye. Also probably gets to Twickenham this weekend.
Gutted.
But just more motivation to f*** them up in the WC in their backyard.
Well done Black Caps! They simply did everything better on the day and played as a team. As for the Proteas, well, nothing to say really.
England soccer, New Zealand rugby, South Africa cricket, World Cup, choke. Whats the odd word out? None!!!
@CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 320) : And for that act by Mills and his black cap buddies , I hope NZ lose the next match . This is cricket , not soccer . π₯
But at least for me this loss is tempered by knowing that the Aussies exited before we did π

Biff is worst World Cup skipper
By David Isaacson
Graeme Smith was the worst-performing captain at the 2011 World Cup – at least in terms of skippers batting in the top order.
A comparison of world cricket’s Big Eight – the teams which qualified for the quarter-finals – shows that Biff was the only captain, who bats in the top three, to score fewer than 200 runs in total and post an average of below 30 (his career ODI average is 39.25).
He was also the only one who failed to score a century, his best effort being 45.
Smith amassed 183 runs at a below-par average of 26.14 from seven matches.
Of the other skippers who bat in the top order, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara made 363 at an average of 121, England’s Andrew Strauss 334 runs at 47.71 and Australia’s Ricky Ponting 206 at 34.33.
India’s MS Dhoni (125 runs), Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi (65 runs + 21 wickets), West Indies’ Darren Sammy (54 runs + 8 wickets) and New Zealand’s injury-hit Daniel Vettori (50 runs + 2 wickets) bat in the middle and lower orders.

It has to be added that Ricky Ponting scored half of his runs in the last match..
