De Jongh in shock Sharks switch – April Fools!

In an unprecedented move, Stormers centre Juan de Jongh has walked out on his contract with the Cape team, citing a lack of game time and will instead turn out for the Sharks this weekend.

According to De Jongh’s agent, the Springbok centre’s contract requires the Stormers to pick him to start in at least 60% of their games and with his inclusion on the bench this week, that criterion has now been broken. “Juan is a free agent and is simply looking for guaranteed game time now,” according to April Fuhls, media liaison officer for the agency that represents the player. “We have approached the Sharks and they’ve agreed to take him on, offering him a starting spot in the team as early as this week”.

“I’m really happy to have De Jongh in the setup,” says Sharks coach John Plumtree, “although dropping my captain, Stefan Terblanche, at such short notice has caused a little bit of disruption in the squad. Fortunately, Ryan Kankowski pulled up a bit lame at captain’s run, so we’ve asked Gary Teichmann to dig out his kit and lead the team for us against the Stormers”.

Revised Sharks team for Saturday:
15 Ludik, 14 Ndungane, 13 De Jongh, 12 Bosman, 11 Pietersen, 10 Potgieter, 9 McLeod, 8 Teichmann (capt), 7 Alberts, 6 Daniel, 5 Hargreaves, 4 Sykes, 3 J du Plessis, 2 B du Plessis, 1 Mtawarira.

NOTE: As I’m sure you’ve all already figured out, this is not a true story, but rather an April Fools joke. Since it’s after 12pm now, we need to point this out πŸ™‚

  • c’mon rob, too easy to spot. if you are gonna do an april fool joke, make it realistic. you must make it believable. a player may not play for another team in the same tournament that season. a good one would have been john mitchell resigning from the lions due to player problems.

  • April’s fool joke or not, you don’t joke about that. We should be hunting that boy’s signature down. We need more players in the backline that can beat a player with the step. Then again, the Crusaders showed that the backline can score many tries by running good angles @ pace into space and having moves that involve your wings and fullback.

  • When the Stormers plays the Sharks on Saturday, they wont only play for top spot but also for the newly created Coastal Cup. The Cape franchise has created this Cup with much thought in a bid to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet.

  • @GreatSharksays (Comment 26) : Talking about players running great lines.

Did anyone see Zack Guilford and SBW run a great line into Charl McLeod and Meyer Bosman to obstruct them from getting to Andy Ellis to give Dagg his try. I just had to mention that one.

They’ve been showing these damn tries over and over again on super sport. So yesterday I slowed them down to see how the heck they just got through us like that. So the first one was just brilliant and a little bad defense on our side.

But the second one is maybe the worst obstruction I’ve ever seen. Even Carter who passes the ball to Ellis technically obstructs JLP, because he passes about a meter and a half before getting to Potgieter and the makes sure her runs into him. I would have let that one slip though, if he hadn’t passed the ball to Ellis behind Guilford who took out McLeod and then Ellis ran in behind Carter and Sonny who ran into Bosman.

That left us with Stefan and Mvovo to cover Fruean, who was tackled by Stefan, Maitland who went past Mvovo, because he went up for the intercept or something and then Dagg who came into the line. By the time Ludik got there from cover. It was all over.

Great move by the Crusaders, because there was probably no way the Sharks could stop it, but maybe the ref should have penalized them, but I don’t blame him. Cause even though I suspected that there was obstruction, I couldn’t be sure of exactly what happened until I slowed it down. πŸ™‚

  • @try time (Comment 38) : And it’s usually the better teams that get away with it. I didn’t enjoy that it was against the Sharks, but those tries were planned very well. They tricked the Sharks and sometimes even the ref. Not that, that’s hard with this particular ref. πŸ™‚

  • @Letgo (Comment 39) : the better teams get away with it because they keep the referee occupied with other stuff. south african teams battle to do more than one thing at a time.
