Sean Everitt has announced his Sharks XV team to take on the Leopards in the curtain raiser on Saturday afternoon. He has made a few slight changes to the team, most significantly though is the announcement of Jean Deysel as captain.

Ross Cronje has injured his ankle and will be replaced by Cobus Reinach at scrumhalf, and the loss of Ross Skeate to the Super Rugby team has made space for Jandre Marais in the second row.

Craig Burden gets a spot on the bench after his early substitution in Empangeni following a rather serious looking knock, which means Kyle Cooper retains his spot as the starting hooker.

I am really looking forward to watching this team on Saturday, so if you are going to the watch the Sharks this weekend, try file into the stands and support the XV.

  • When will we see Dwayne Kelly playing for the Vodacom team? Just wondering. As he has recovered very well after his back injury.

  • @Westville Ondersteuner (Comment 3) : I would be so chuffed if Dwayne could make the Vodacom Cup squad but I think a realistic goal for him at this stage would be to get the bench spot in the u21 C/C side later this year. He was such a classy no.9 for Westville. Pity that injury cut his u19 season short last year.

  • I don’t want run down the Leopards coz they run a good organisation particularly at junior level but I wish we could have taken a big name opponent with so many of our 1st choice players being available this weekend.
I can’t wait to see Marcell in action again. I also hope they get Heimar on early.
I suspect that Fred Z is injured. Either that or Gouws Prinsloo must have had a good run at club level.

Reebok if you’re out there and reading: what’s happened to Willie du Plessis???

  • @wpw (Comment 4) :

He looks much better hey, to be honest.

I just hope they drop him if he doesn’t perform, but at this stage, he is adding value to the team.

  • @beet (Comment 6) : Been in the Cape @ the u/16 Paarl Gim tournament. Witness Waterkloof beat Grey Bloem 17 -12. What a match. The u/16 boys are just beef. Wonder what their mothers are feeding them. Good for our future.

Came back yesterday morning and drove to Empangeni, watch the talent at the National Academy Cup. Our boys did us proud beating the EP Kings in the semi’s in heavy rain 30 – 24. Willie du Plessis came off the bench at the start of the second half. He had a superb match in difficult conditions. Kicking 5/6, scoring 14 points. It was a flawless display with a well deserve man of the match award. EP Kings are a very good side outscoring the Sharks 3/4 tries. Our boys are playing Zululand in the final on Saturday @ 13:40

As for the leopard’s game this weekend. Willie and Gouws were the two outstanding players in the 2 club games they played for Collegians. Especially the game against Hamilton’s. It was between them for a place on the bench. Unfortunately Willie cannot cover the wing. De Kock can cover fly and Gouws outside centre, wing and fullback. Fred Z is not injured. Believe he is player no 23 for the match. Glad for Gouws but still unclear why Lindeque was sagged. He is playing in the National Academy. Cup.

  • @Westville Ondersteuner (Comment 3) : Kelly is a hell of a talent, but I think he’s behind two very good scrummies in the Vodacom Cup pecking order right now. Might have to be content with under 21 rugby this year,

  • @Reebok (Comment 10) : Thanks for all that feedback. Much appreciated.
I followed the u16 fest in Paarl Gim. I heard the talent on display was unbelievable. Sounded like Waterkloof and EG Jansen did particularly well. Klofies really seem to have a good programme going at the moment.

  • Sucks to be a cheetahs supporter. 😥 The ref missed blatant obstruction in the highlanders first try and then blatant offsides at the ruck in the last minute when the Cheetahs were going for the win. Hard luck guys, you were in with a shout, but you got stiffed.
