I want a feeding frenzy, and I want it NOW!

OK. I am going to drop a bit of a bombshell before I get my teeth into this post. I have a major confession to make, the kind that splits families and starts vendettas… While the glorious chaps in Black and White are my first rugby love, they have not been my only rugby love. I had, for want of a better phrase, a rugby affair. I cuckolded my Sharks, against my will, and to my eternal shame. And I did it to keep a man happy…

I was married to Mr van Wyk, you see. And Mr van Wyk was a Transvaal supporter. And would become very irate at me shouting for “the souties”. Especially when said “souties” made mincemeat of his heroes in red and white. And so, because I “luffed” Mr van Wyk, and adored Francois Pienaar, I put my beloved Sharks on the back burner, secretly carrying the eternal flame of undying love, locking it away where Mr van Wyk couldn’t see it and where it would cause no harm. And, with my “forever Sharks” soul riddled with guilt, I took the “easy” path to Ellis Park where I (gulp) shouted for another team. The team that is now…. The Lions. 😳

Although my yearning for my true loves, my dashing heroes from Durban, consumed me, I learned to conceal my pain, and made every effort to keep peace in my house by “supporting” a team which was not mine, which did not fulfil me the way my Sharks always have. And over the years, I began to loathe that team and the false smiles I had to glue upon my face when they did well. But the Man Upstairs smiled upon me, because as the years dragged on those fake grimaces grew fewer and farther between as the Lions went from bad to worse (Pretty much like my marriage to Mr van Wyk, who is now my ex and engaged to a Blue Bulls supporter, for his sins!)

And so, joy of joys, I was able to shed the cloak of falsehood and once more shout my love of the Sharks from the rooftops of Pretoria (well – my living room, actually) and wear the Black and White with unabashed pride, chest out, head held high. Which brings me nicely to now. And the Lions taking on my true loves at King’s Park. A crunch match for us. And an emotionally wired one for me. It’s my first (proper) Lions v Sharks match since becoming officially single. And all the years of silently shouting (and just occasionally actually shouting just to wind Mr van Wyk up) for my Sharkies, even through the terrible drought that was the Putt years, have produced in me a venom which knows no bounds against those poor pussycat shadows of Gauteng’s former “pride”. πŸ‘Ώ

It’s not the fault of the Lions, to be fair. It’s probably my shame, and my guilt, at having chosen to once shout for a once mighty (and hell, to be fair, in their day they were one helluva team) Transvaal while all the time loving Natal and now the Sharks. But all of that is now moot, because as a fully restored, and hopefully fully forgiven Sharks supporter, my lungs will be filled with a bloodcurdling battle cry come 19h00 on Saturday April 9 as I urge those fine young men in monochrome to victory and glory. I want nothing less than a feeding frenzy on that field tomorrow. I want pieces of panthera leo flying all over the place, I want kitty to litter the hallowed ground, I want death to be brought down upon those faltering felines… 😎

And when it’s all over, when the last attempt at a roar has been stifled by razor sharp teeth to nought but a stuttering meow, I will finally have justice, and complete absolution. Redemption will be mine! πŸ˜›

What happens, I hear you ask, if I don’t get my feeding frenzy and fur flying in all directions? That, dear friends, will be another post entirely! 😯

Go Sharks. For Shaz and Sharksworld!

  • Yup, I too hope we see some bog numbers on the Sharks side of the scoreboard, but we always seem to struggle against these boys.

Gonna be braaing during the game – if we do well, the meat turns out good. If not… Nandos is around the corner.

  • WHAT A DAY! I got my feeding frenzy and some! I just love it when a plan comes together so perfectly! The Bulls get trashed, the Stormers stuffed and the Sharks nail the bonus point in the dying seconds. And next time we take to the field of glory that is King’s Park, with God’s grace our rightful flyhalf will be wearing the No 10.
