S15 Game 49 – Highlanders (24) v Cheetahs (21) F/T

The first game of round 8 and the only game for the day should make for a decent game when the Highlanders, after their great start to the season, take on the Cheetahs, who have had not such a great start but would have taken a lot of heart from their game against the Blues last weekend.

The Highlanders managed a good win over the Brumbies last weekend and will look to score maximum points at home against a tired and one-foot-on-the plane-home Cheetahs team.

The Cheetahs, who will be looking forward to the plane trip home, have lost another player to injury, and would like to get this game behind them whilst hoping to pick up some form of bonus point.

I predict a 15 point margin in favour of the home team.

Highlanders: 15. Ben R Smith, 14. Kade Poki, 13. Kenny Lynn, 12. Shaun Treeby, 11. Siale Piutau, 10. Colin Slade, 9. Jimmy Cowan, 8. Nasi Manu, 7. Alando Soakai, 6. Adam Thomson, 5. Josh Bekhuis, 4. Jarrad Hoeata, 3. Chris King, 2. Jason Rutledge, 1. Jamie MacKintosh (Captain)

Replacements: 16. Mahonri Schwalger, 17. David Te Moana, 18. Tom Donnelly, 19. Nick Crosswell, 20. Aaron Smith, 21. Robbie Robinson, 22. James Paterson

Cheetahs: 15. Riaan Viljoen, 14. Philip Burger, 13. Robert Ebersohn, 12. Corné Uys, 11. Wilmaure Louw, 10. Sias Ebersohn, 9. Sarel Pretorius, 8. Ashley Johnson, 7. Davon Raubenheimer, 6. Kabamba Floors, 5. Wilhelm Steenkamp (Captain), 4. Francois (FS) Uys, 3. WP Nel, 2. Ryno Barnes, 1. Coenie Oosthuizen

Replacements: 16. Skipper Badenhorst, 17. Lourens Adriaanse, 18. Martin Muller, 19. Leon Karemaker, 20. Tewis de Bruyn, 21. Naas Olivier, 22. Riaan Smit

  • In their last five meetings, highlanders have won every time, twice in Dunedin, three times in Bloemfontein, four out of five by 7 points or less. The only big win was in 2009, in Dunedin, 32-8.
highlanders to win, certainly, but I have them by 9.

  • @Greg (Comment 31) : All we have to do is win. If we win 1 to 0 then it goes to extra time and penalties. If we win 2 goals to 1 or any other margin then we qualify for the semi’s. So that’s a advantage we have playing away now.

  • @Ben (Comment 27) : i have to say, if there is a team that can overturn a first leg deficit, it can only be Chelsea, Barca and Arjen Robben 👿

i`m not so confident about it as yet, if we can manage to score early, then it should be tickets…

i have to add, what a difference it is to play chelsea minus David Luiz… hes going to become a great in english football imo.

  • @VanWilder (Comment 50) : Why on earth did you fear Carvalho? Lampard isn’t what he was in the previous 2 season and I think that’s one of the reasons Chelsea aren’t really challenging for the tittle this season. Drogba only plays well when he feels like it. I think Ashley will fit in well at Man utd plus Aston Villa are struggling a bit at the moment. Not so sure about Sneijder.
