Never look back

Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of talk about John Smit, the national team and the Rugby World Cup in general. Obviously people are quick to jump on the “blame train” and point fingers at players, coaches and the media.

South Africans in general are very stubborn people, and that shows in huge amounts when you look at our rugby supporters from all around the country. Everybody has a point of view and everybody wants their voice and opinion to be heard but along the way people have seem to forget that they are “Player 23”. Sorry that I am using Vodacom’s very successful slogan there but it is true and I think we as Springbok supporters should start looking at our own form.

If we fail as supporters then our team will fail in the process, we need to start looking at all the penalties we as supporters give away by being so negative all the time. Yes there are problems with some players form at the moment, and yes there are some huge gaps that still need to be filled before we can even think of bringing our World Cup Trophy back from New Zealand. So we come to a point where we as supporters need to pull up our socks, stand behind our team, wear our green and gold with pride and shout our hearts out for our team!

It is time for us as Springbok supporters to stop looking back at what was! We have to start supporting our whole national setup more, encourage them and help them as much as we can to bring that Cup home! If we believe 100%, if we shout with all our hearts and souls, then just maybe we can be the “Player 23” we are supposed to be. Next time a premiership game is on, do yourself a favor and watch it, those supporters sing and cheer the whole match, they stand behind their teams win or lose. Their stadiums are always packed and the atmosphere is amazing because they have belief. Even when they know they are in for a hard night, and even when they know they are going to lose, they still won’t give up as supporters.

So stop looking back at what was, and start being a supporter!

  • If the Boks choose the the team I think they will. Then I’m not even interested in being “player 23”. 😉

  • yeah, yeah the Sharks fans know all about being ‘player 23’ 🙄 that’s why they boo-ed francois steyn at the tank for attempting a drop goal!

And wasn’t it in Durban where the Boks & Pdv were boo-ed by fans in 2008 after a loss to the Wallabies?

    Save us the sanctimonious bluster.

Boos for De Villiers as Wallabies

Aug 23, 2008 Durban : South Africa SOURCE: INDEPENDENT

But by last night as a beautiful warm sun
slid slowly into the horizon of the Indian
Ocean at Durban, you wondered whether de Villiers might have been revising his opinion. The coach was interviewed on the match after the game and his words were drowned out by a storm of boos from the 45 000 home fans, just as his captain…
