WP team for Shark showdown

Will Western Province be able to continue their unbeaten form in their first knockout match? Taking a look through the lineup and its mightily impressive, they even had to shift Tim Whitehead to the bench, with the exciting new prospect Johann Sadie being preferred.

Thanks to a bit of a flyhalf crisis in the Stormers camp, the very exciting UCT talent, Demetri Catrikilis has been bracketed in the flyhalf channel (pending the results of Peter Grant’s fitness test). After his performances throughout the Varsity Cup, I’m quite excited to see how he goes with the lineup outside him. A former Super Rugby combo lines up in the lock pairing, and a return to rugby for Tiaan Liebenberg off the bench makes for some interesting viewing. Prop JD Moller captains, while they’ve decided to go for a 5-2 split on the bench (I think, although I don’t recognise a few of those names). Game kicks off at 16:20.

  • This is a decent team.
I’d love to know what has happened to Yaya Hartzenberg. SA’s very own ‘Jerry Collins’ 😎

  • Whitehead should have started at 12 but I guess Paul Bosch is there to keep Riaan ‘Telly tubby’ Swanepoel in check!

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 14) : You sure want to lose money.

“John Dobson, coach of DHL Western Province, has selected nine players with Vodacom Super Rugby experience in his team that host the Sharks XV at DHL Newlands on Saturday at 16h20”
