Welcome to the Windhoek Lager Team of the Week. We have decided to make it an all South African team and base it only on the weekend matches. So if your favourite player did not play on the weekend, he will not be in the team.
Thanks must go to Windhoek Lager for sponsoring this weekly Team. We will have a Team of the Year competition at the end of the season, so make sure to take note of certain players who consistently make the team.

1. Coenie Oosthuizen – This man has a solid side step on him! Good game in the scrums as well.
2. Deon Fourie – Had a busy game and capped the performance with a good bonus point try.
3. WP Nel – Strong performance from the big Cheetah man, dominating at scrum time.
4. Rynhardt Elstadt – This lock combination totally dominated on the day. Great talent for the future.
5. Andries Bekker – Proving week in and week out that he is the next Springbok lock, is playing his way onto the World Cup bench.
6. Schalk Burger – Lead his team to a dominating win and had a typical hard Schalk match.
7. Francois Louw – Overshadowed his much larger and more spoken about opponent on the night, great match in the rucks and got a few turnovers.
8. Pierre Spies – Had a good game in his team’s new colour, giving him some wings and even scoring a try. Best of the SA eighthmen.
9. Sarel Pretorius – Most certainly the inform South African scrumhalf at the moment.
10. Morne Steyn – Certainly getting his kicking form in order before the World Cup, but also gave his backline some good front foot ball to work with.
11. Bryan Habana – Is improving his game so far through the tournament, not yet hitting top form, but was a menace on the night.
12. Jean de Villiers- What a game from a great player, one of few certain Springbok starters who is in form. Made the Sharks centre’s look like girls playing in the park.
13. Jacque Fourie – Another superb centre who is at the very top of his game, big strong runner with the ball and a brick wall on defence.
14. Gio Aplon – A good game from the diminutive winger, was dangerous on attack and scored a good try. His defence also didn’t let him down.
15. Riaan Viljoen – This man has a boot much like Frans Steyn, and seems to like those 60m drop goals from his own half. His positional and defensive play on the night was better than we have seen from him.

My Windhoek MVP of the week goes to Jean de Villiers!
Sending a solid message with that team Rich. 🙂
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : I can agree with that. he had an excellent game and lead his team well.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 2) :
I dont think any Shark player played better than any other South African on the weekend.
Pat Lambie was close for his defensive efforts, but Steyn had a blinder kicking all eight his kicks..
Its only fair..
Bear of the week?
I’d like to nominate either our defence coach or Meyer Bosman.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 5) :
Cannot disagree with that
Luyt Lager Crappy XV (in progress):
4 Bakkies Botha
5 Ross Skeate
6 Deon Stegman
9 Charl McCleod
12 Meyer Bosman
13 Stefan Terreblanche
@King Shark (Comment 7) :
You are going to battle with the front row..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 5) : Lets just say, now that bin Ladens gone, theres a place for Bosman on the top 10 most wanted list!!
@King Shark (Comment 7) :
And a flyhalf to put in there will be impossible..
I was very impressed by the Cheetahs this weekend – and it was a much enjoyable game to watch!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) : Agreed.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 8) : not really, watch:
1 Dean Greyling
2 Gary Botha
3 Eugene van Staden
7 Davon Raubenheimer
10 Lionel Cronje (least good flyhalf!)
Try of the weekend I would like to nominate the first Sheppard try for the Force against the Crusaders
@King Shark (Comment 14) :
He cant be categorised as being the kak flyhalf..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 5) : We have a defensive coach??!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 15) : It was pretty freaking awesome!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 16) : That’s why I said “Least good” 😉
@King Shark (Comment 18) : Not Sias as ‘least good’? and he aint kak either. When last could we say that none of our SA team’s flyhalves are kak.
@war1 (Comment 19) : It does feel strange, doesn’t it?
Have to say, now that Habana appears to have dropped the dream of getting into drama school, he’s starting to play a lot better. Like know he can. 😎
@King Shark (Comment 13) : CJ?
@McLovin (Comment 21) :
He is looking better and better every week..
@McLovin (Comment 22) :
CJ wasn’t the best on the weekend..
I agree that he might have to be in the Bear team..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 24) : Defintely in the Bear team.
I suppose from a Springbok point of view it’s good to see some of the Springboks performing!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 24) : OK, CJ in, Eugene out. Same with Sias for Lionel.
Why is the Bear team called the ‘Bear’ team?
what, no Sharks? 🙂
@McLovin (Comment 28) :
Some idiot who didn’t know how to beer (Windhoek), so since then we have decided to keep it..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 30) : I see, I think.
No Sharks Rob? I agree what about our crash tackling mid field pairing of Bosman and Stef, they were superb 😆
And our brilliant buy, Ross Skeate who dominated the lineouts. 😀
Duane pound for pound best number 8 this weekend. Give that man a Windhoek… Spies was nowhere in comparison. Deysel cleaned rucks out brilliantly, looking forward to see him in the mix next week…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) : to be honest, cronje held his defensive line just as well as Lambie, he may have missed a couple kicks at post, but his kicking for touch and distributing to the backline was excellent. So he must also surely be right up there.
@molly (Comment 34) : Lionel was good and his job was made easier by his forwards who dominated the Sharks forwards.
@molly (Comment 34) : Don’t remember him tackling much, though. But not a bad performance, overall.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 36) : suppose your boys didn’t really have that much ball to work with, did they 😉
Trust me sharon, the one move your boys like is the rumble up the first channel, which was the one cronje was marking… How many linebreaks were there?
@Pokkel (Comment 35) : absolutely, just don’t think a defensive performance in a losing effort is warrant enough for Lambie to be a possibility in the team of the week.
@molly (Comment 38) : I agree! I never said Lambie should be in the team though.
@robdylan (Comment 29) : That’s what happens when you have 2 donkeys at centre and a game-plan built almost exclusively around Willem Alberts. 🙁 Anyway, I’m sure Plum has some positive ideas for the Brumbies game…
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 33) : I also thought Deysel had a decent outing for his first start. Looking forward to seeing him progress. He was closely marked by the Stormers but still pulled off a few of those trademark hand-offs.
I would pick him for Brumbies and give Alberts a bit of a rest.
@molly (Comment 34) :
I agree Molly..
That’s why I was shocked to see him selected as the Crappy team of the week flyhalf.
I thought he was great taking into consideration it was his first start. His nerves must have been shot! He is a player for the future for sure!
@McLovin (Comment 31) : There is this one chop that only ever criticise the team of the week. He couldn’t spell “beer”.
