Former Shark and Springbok Butch James has secured an early release from his contract with Bath and will be arriving in RSA on Tuesday.

James will arrive in Johannesburg on Tuesday and join up with the Lions touring party in Australia on Wednesday. Butch James, Burton Francis and Elton Jantjies will be the three flyhalves on tour with the Lions.

James will play his last game for Bath this afternoon when they take on the Newcastle Falcons.

  • @wpw (Comment 4) : They deserve better than they are doing now, there are a bunch of youngsters in there who are getting their self belief battered everyweek.

  • After the highlights package I saw this morning, they are going to need a lot more than Butch..

But that said, Im glad to see him back in the country..

    I have always liked Butch..

  • Butcher – good for him. The flyhalves will now learn how to defend their channel aggressively… Burton on the bench, Elton is not strong mentally, I feel he will become a problem child… He is no general.

  • The Lions problem is that they were hyped before the season as to how much better they were going to be this year. Its good to be positive, but their supporters become downright arrogant! They need a complete change in culture and Im not convinced that a cheque book will help. As the sharks found out in 2004/5, if players think your union is shite, they wont move there.

  • Hope that James does not get injured this afternoon, got a bit fragile the last year or two… 🙁

  • @Pablo Dinero (Comment 9) :
Been saying that since last year – personnel is not the real issue.

I wonder if those who predicted the Lions renaissance in 2011 will dare admit it now?

    I can remember a few names. 😈

  • I ll have u know that it wasn’t Lions Supporters hyping our season ..most of us knew better of shouting out a new dawn.

Wpw its good to see ur hatred 4 the Lions have reached new heights.

Ill be the 1st to admit we are kak and the problems are much deeper than players as mentioned above by someone.

Stand by what iv said for years get out of Coke park and start from scratch forming a new culture.

I feel for the young players that have the talent but are getting knocked down week in week out.

Sad state of affairs ..Butch hopefully can add a little something but won’t turn things around.

There were a few Lions fans who were getting a bit windgat, but I was talking more about the Sharks fans here who bought into the hype.

Like you said, the Lions need a culture change, and that starts higher up in the union than the bigwigs are comfortable with.

now that is sth i really do agree

start from scratch and agree with the young players they are the ones that are being held back, its time for a new era and only then will your teamm be back for the comp

but i do feel for the team they play hard but just not good enough
even with all the new players sth wrong and it can’t go on

    hopeing for the best

don’t worry sharks i’m not a closest Lion just being friendly

  • @CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 20) : I’ve bin blogging here for a while now but not seen u around, so ditto to @ben, why so scares… If u looked at my sb predictions this year anyone would have been excused for thinking I’m a lions supporter.. They costing me heavy.. Have faith as some other bloggers would say… 🙂

  • @CoffeeshopBok;-) (Comment 26) :
Butch will definitely add value. I would like to see him play centre outside Francis – he will close the gaps in midfield, and he will bring confidence to Francis and Murray.

Francis is a talented youngster who made a poor decision going to the Bulls. He has skill and vision – but not the experience. Butch will provide the experience, tackling and kicking game the Lions lack.
