The Irish Rugby Football Union has moved to deny reports that former South Africa scrum coach Os du Randt is in talks to join the Ireland set-up.
Du Randt is reported to have told the Rugby XV website that he is in talks with the IRFU about the possiblity of helping Ireland at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand with the South African hinting that a deal is close to being agreed.
“At the moment I’m still negotiating. It’s difficult to say when it will be confirmed, but hopefully by the next meeting I will have signed,” Du Randt is quoted as saying.
Setanta Sports reports that the two-time World Cup winner went on to suggest that he was looking forward to working alongside former Springbok forwards coach Gert Smal, saying: “I played many Tests under Gert, he’s a great forwards coach. He’s so meticulous and I’m looking forward to see how he works to achieve his goals.”
However, the IRFU insists that there is no truth in the reports as Greg Feek is contracted to Ireland until the end of the World Cup.
“The Irish Rugby Football Union and Ireland team management can confirm that no discussions or negotiations have taken place in relation to Os Du Randt joining the coaching staff of the Ireland team – either during the Rugby World Cup or after the tournament,” the IRFU said in a statement.

Porkie Pies anyone?
I’m sure it’s a case of the Cheetahs outbidding the IRFU as we all know how much money the Cheetahs have.
