Sigh of relief as Hougaard starts

The Bulls team to face the Cheetahs this Saturday has been announced with a big sigh of relief as Francois Hougaard has been cleared to play in the scrumhalf position left vacant by Fourie du Preez. Du Preez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and this will give Hougaard an extended run in his preferred position, if he can stay clear of injuries.

Hougaard’s jersey on the win will be worn by Akona Ndungane, an interesting selection ahead of Gerhard van den Heever, who falls to bench as Zane Kirchner returns in the full back position. Justin Dinka will cover the scrumhalf position on the bench.

The only other change is that of Danie Rossouw dropping to the bench and being replaced by fit again Deon Steggman.

Bulls Team

Zane Kirchner , Akona Ndungane , Jaco Pretorius, Wynand Olivier, Bjorn Basson , Morné Steyn, Francois Hougaard, Pierre Spies , Dewald Potgieter , Deon Stegmann, Victor Matfield (c), Bakkies Botha, Werner Kruger, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Dean Greyling

Replacements: Gary Botha , Rossouw de Klerk , Flip van der Merwe , Danie Rossouw , Dustin Jinka, Francois Brummer (5), Gerhard van den Heever .

  • Glad for the player that he is fit to play – I am generally apathetic toward The Bulls – but Francois has some soul – this would’ve been very disruptive for the tea had he not been fit considering that Snyman too is nursing…

Going to be an exciting game I hope… Cheetahs winning – imagine that…

  • It’s gonna be a 5-point game, I know it’s a big ask but I hope the Cheetahs will get them.

  • I don’t understand why they’d pick either Akona or Zane ahead of Gerhard? Heck, I wouldn’t mind someone like him playing fullback for the Sharks to be honest.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 5) : Gerhard does seem like he’s too good to be left on the bench, but at the Bulls he is at least given game off the bench – I too am surprised to see him there again (bench) especially after such a solid game against The Sharks. How long is his contract

  • @vanmartin (Comment 5) :

Gerhard is a very good runner but his defense is shit to say the least(except of course against the Sharks where he actually made a couple of tackles)

  • Go Cheetahs! 😈
I quite like Hougaard. We really missed a trick by allowing him to leave WP. πŸ™„
