good to see all the Du Preez’s there.
Rich, can we get which school they from?
@Mocho (Comment 2) :
Let me see what I can do for you….
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) : thanks boss…. some random on Twitter is also asking for it
@Mocho (Comment 2) :
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
School abbreviations now in brackets..
I am not sure what they all stand for..
Those that I do know:
GW – Glenwood
MHS – Michaelhouse
GC – George Campbell
K – Kearsney
MC – Maritzburg College
W – Westville
VRY – Vryheid
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) : Thanks man. Appreciate it :). A lot of Glenwood players.
Sc-st charles ,emp-empageni high(I think),gl-gelofte high
@Mocho (Comment 7) : they still lost to northwood high last week biggest upset ever all they had to do was keep they discipline and they had a penalty but noooooo somebody had to throw a punch and bam they lost,penalty reversed kinda like last year against maritzburg college they discipline is lacking big time,as soon as they don’t get they way in the physical encounters and breakdowns you strip away a lot of they flash
MC is Maritzburg College
So – quite interesting to see Glenwood coach Sean Erasmus playing a role here… my understanding is that he will be the Sharks under 19 coach as well this year.
@Poisy (Comment 9) : Glenwood lost to Northwood? For real? Nice 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 12) : yup biggest shock ever in kzn,but keep in mind northwood beat michealhouse and dhs last year so they are slowly getting better
I really hope these oakies can feed the Sharks academie with some centres. Seems like our big stumbling block of depth at the sharks at the moment.
Sorry but its a joke again, now its Kearsneys turn, Hilton has had theirs…guess who is the coach and from what school?Anyway things will never change so dont expect these school sides of ours to feed the Sharks it is rotten to the core!!Atleast we can depend on our feeder school Grey…what a pity the waist of the Northern Natal talent and smaller schools!!Their is a reason for all the GC boys included!!!!!!!! hahahaha what a joke!!
@Poisy (Comment 9) : Yeah they a physical bunch, and if you match the Green Barbarians they seem to resort to out of game stuff. I remember playing them back in school, and they would want to take the fight after the match.
Hope Westville bursts the Green Barbarians Bubble, they been bragging they the best team in KZN. Tired of it now.
Most of the Sharks players live in areas like Durban North. Northwood to be the next Grey College 😉
@Viking (Comment 14) : Watch Fisher from Westville, he marshals the backline and breaks the lines.
@Mocho (Comment 16) : watch it I played for the green machine lol witch is why I am so tough on them,but you right,most of the guys are overly aggressive for no reason at all to be honest even at practice *sigh* westville has declined this year,kearsney however are looking good for a change,what year did you play for westville?
@basson (Comment 15) : Glenwood more than any other school in KZN leds itself to a very strict requirement that Craven Week has. No coach can get around this. Fortunately KZN have talented players to fall back on,many of them are in the Glenwood squad. Regions like Bulle, Lions, Valke, Pumas and Vrystaat all sweat on this requirement.
Well done to all the boys in the 3 rep teams on their achievements.
For those that didn’t make it, it’s definitely not the end of the road. There are so many players to look to who’ve done well without going to Craven Week or Academy Week.
@Poisy (Comment 17).: lol? We ranked 18th in the country, beat Kearsney, ranked higher (although I’m against the whole ranking system) and only lost to one KZN team so far, MC in the 10 min on Goldstone. How have Westville declined?
Yeah man. Its gna cost your’ll matches. Teams are going to pick up on Northwoods tactics and frustate them into errors. Similar to what the Bulls did to the Sharks 😉 lol.
I hope DHS also make a comeback. The stronger KZN schools the better for Natal.
I matriculated in 2007 u?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : Hey Rich, please change Lwazi Sithole. This speedster has scored in just about every College game this season. He’s not from Westville.
@beet (Comment 19) : your man Jackson made it 😉
@beet (Comment 18) : what are the requirements that they require? Would be interested to know.
@Mocho (Comment 20) : I matriculated a year after you 2008,fnb ranking system is rather biased so don’t pay attention to that,glenwood are ranked 19 but they also beat kearsney ranked higher,and its especially biased when it comes to kzn schools is what I picked up over the years!,westville have declined just think a year or 2 ago you guys would only lose to glenwood in kzn and never by much! But now maritzburg had your number and I wouldn’t be surprised if glenwood gave you spanking, as for the aggression its just how they play,I wish they would expand they range we have so many good backline players but as usual forwards hog the ball ! All the time:)
@Mocho (Comment 22) : Ya, I happy for Jackson. But also for many others.
I went to Kearsney so I’m chuffed about our season so far and for the 5 players who made it. The du Preez twins are still only 15 years old. They’re gonna go far.
I spoke to Ungerer after the College Westville game. He’s out coz of concussion, so it was great that the selectors still opted for him despite him not playing trials. He is our no.1 talent.
Tyler’s been awesome at times this season. Lwazi needs no intro to the tryline.
When Sanele Nanto played for George Campbell against Kearsney, I thought he was man of the match.
Mbhembe Payi is one of my favourite players. With the ball he is special, he has the wickedest sidestep.
It was a predictable team to a large extend. I just thought Keegan Boulle deserved to be there and I was surprised at Matthew Worrall-Clare’s selection. I also don’t know anything about Klingenberg from Vryheid. Hopefully he’s a big strong lad.
@beet (Comment 21) :
I just used what I could find, I will update it now..
@beet (Comment 21) :
What am I changing it to?
@beet (Comment 25) : hehehe you well informed in school rugby better than me 😛 and I’m no slouch so that’s saying something,hehehe you are a kearsney man,you must endured some torrid hidings especially the last few years but they are definatly coming good this year 🙂 well done
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 27) : MC
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 27) :m. college
@beet (Comment 25) :
Where does Mr Graves come into the picture at Kearsney?
@beet (Comment 29) :
Its done.. sorry for the mistake..
@Poisy (Comment 28) : Shot Poisy. Pity you couldn’t have told Jaques Taylor to slow down a few weeks back, it would have made our season even better if he had. 😀
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 31) : Now I don’t know. He was an Afrikaans teacher when I was there, also my cricket coach for 1 term. That was over 20 years ago.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 32) : Rich, please don’t apologise. I’d have to give you 100 thank you’s everyday, if we were going to move to that level of politeness. 🙂
@beet (Comment 34) :
I thought he was involved in the rugby?
I know his son used to ref some games at Kearsney..
@beet (Comment 35) :
I need to power up my knowledge on this level..
Do you know the players at all Beet?
@beet (Comment 33) : ahhh yes the mountain that is the green machine ;)you guys got pretty close though so you must be kicking your self northwood beat you to it 😛
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 37) : I don’t know any of the players personally but I know who they are if they play for Kearsney, Glenwood, College, Westville or DHS and a few from MHS and George Campbell.
@beet (Comment 39) :
Oh okay..
The idea is to get a few of them onto the site..
Would be nice to grow the fan base from that age..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 40) : I was asking rob today who is between 18-25 on the blog hahaha I think we need more young guys on here so we can cover all the kzn schools results!
@Poisy (Comment 41) :
Im leaving the 18-25 age group in a few months..
But I dont think there are many younger guys..
@beet (Comment 35) : what do you think about putting together kzn rugby school results every week and post them on here,also include the less fancied schools like kingsway,com tech(umlazi),st henry,grovner etc?
@Poisy (Comment 43) :
And don’t forget Kuswag..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 42) : well done:) I’m still 20 until october! 😉 I’m a laajtie 😛
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 44) : well well well do we have a kuswag old boy in the house? 😉
@Poisy (Comment 43) : Poisy, that a good idea. By doing that you can find a niche in the market. But it’s time and effort and motivation to continue doing it.
@Poisy (Comment 45) :
Awesome..
We need more around here..
@Poisy (Comment 46) :
I am indeed..
Kingsway were our whipping boys every year..
@beet (Comment 47) :
You hit the nail on the head..
No other place where you can find all that info, but to get all that together can be a logistical nightmare..
@beet (Comment 47) : it shouldn’t be to hard ,its exposio for the school,we can call the schools up tell them to email the results and get rob or richard to post them,they themselves can even join sharksworld,its a simple thing and very little effort from our part
@Poisy (Comment 51) :
The issue is getting in with the schools..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 49) : hahaha your little derby game lions against kittens 😛 nightmare to watch
@Poisy (Comment 53) :
It wasnt so bad.. There was always a fight, which made for good viewing..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 52) : from the smaller schools I really don’t see a problem ,this site would be doing them a favor and also giving them a platform to advertise they rugby and talk to other players from schools get some banter going
@Poisy (Comment 55) :
Its worth a shot..
The problem is time and effort..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 54) : its like brettonwood high and queensburgh boys high there’s always a fight luckily its stopped though last one was in 07
@Poisy (Comment 57) :
The same thing happened in Toti..
The Kingsway vs Toti High derby was cancelled
@Poisy (Comment 41) : haha I’m 22. I’m not the youngest 😀
Great idea Poisy!! U know what I taught. Why not give it to aspiring journalist students at the school. They probably know every detail of their school rugby team, including how much each player benches. Just get them to send an email to Rob every Sunday. They will get exposure, the school rugby team will get exposure and everyone will be pleased. Just give them some strict requirements and et them be.
Imagine all his friends will want to read, and soon the whole school will read them. And we talking about 10 or more schools. Plus the parents. This site could grow to heights unimaginable. I hope Robs reading this. Just an idea . . . 😉
Anyways I saw such a sad thing on ETV. Solly Tybilika (spelling) living down and out. He blames the Lions. Good example of what not to do as a rugby player.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 56) : yup 🙂
@Mocho (Comment 59) :
@Poisy (Comment 60) :
Look, I will see what I can do.. There is nothing stopping us from trying..
Im sure we can make a plan..
@Mocho (Comment 59) : most deff! Now who has the time to do all this I’m only free mondays and tuesdays! Hahaha yes I guess that makes me the youngest until someone comes out of the woodwork to admit they 16 not mentioninG any nAMEs lol upper case is the clue lol 😛
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 61) : Sure. Might work might not. I live in Westville and involved a lot with the school. I’m sure they would be keen. Pupils are always thinking about their futures in school. So the prospect of being able to say that they post articles on such a reputable site like Sharksworld on their CV’s will be quite appealing.
@Mocho (Comment 63) :
All we need to do is find out who we can contact at each of the schools and who will mail us the results..
@Mocho (Comment 59) : as for solly I never saw the program what’s it called maybe there’s a repeat somewhere,yah its a pity that happens sometimes and people forget about him,must be heart breaking for the guy
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 64) : Most of the Schools have websites, and their contact details are on them. If we for example send an email to each school saying we looking for any rugby loving aspiring student journalist who knows the ins and outs of school rugby to report back on each match. Also maybe some interviews with the players, and some news pre-match. Inform them to announce it at assembly or in the newsletters. Maybe we can reward the best journalist with some tickets or something from the Sharks.
@Mocho (Comment 66) : that’s an excellent idea
@Poisy (Comment 65) : Was on E-news on ETV. So so sad. Should have seen where he stays and his lifestyle. Sad reality. He plays for Hamiltons Club now. Didn’t really follow rugby when he played. How did he do at the Sharks?
@Poisy (Comment 67) : I can see it now. . School Rugby followers bantering each other after each match. Those students are the future Robs, Richards, Mornes, coaches, players. Dare I say it “KEO’s”
Poisy u went to school recently. I used to swim a lot. You must have experienced Westvilles domination of the pool 😉 best swimming school in the country.
@Mocho (Comment 68) : he did well here even became a bok!! Shame now I’m all sad 🙁 I’ll look it up on the net,some1 should sponsor him a coaching course than maybe he can coach a school or something or be a rugby journo?
@Mocho (Comment 69) : I only learned to swim last year so I stayed far far away from that sport 😛 but yes I heard all over westville dominates and a certain mr chad la chros(spelling) proved it by going to the common wealth games and winning so many gold medals but as usual westville are slave drivers they made him take a teacher to keep up with school work lmao! I can imagine now him trying to pick up a chic there and the taecher rocks up hassling him about maths homework after just winning a medal 😀
@Poisy (Comment 71) : Bro its just makes me think, that sport is not life, and life goes on. Same thing happened to Baby Jake in boxing when he got older. Hope SARU manage to do something for him or one of his Ex-team mates help him out a bit.
Haha yep typical Westville that. Also had Charl van Zyl commonswealth silver medalist and Chad HO, Olympic swimmer form the same era I was in the team. It was not easy though. When I got to the school DHS used to dominate the pool. And we only beat them at the D&D once in my 5years. Reason being they had a guy that was ranked 2nd in the world in my age group. Aaah I miss school 🙁
@Mocho (Comment 72) : true hey but for such a decline in life is woeful I would have hoped he had a plan b and c! While he still was earning the big bucks,
Hahaha shame everything happens for a reason but well done for making the team!
Haha I don’t miss school at all to be honest,it was fun but not that fun.besides I did more debating than rugby hence why I’m a law student lol
Mbembe Payi was poached from Ithembelihle High School in PE’s Zwide Township and is making craven week for the 2nd time this year.
@Megatron (Comment 74) : well his lucky he will get better opportunities now
@Megatron (Comment 74) : Recruited is a better word. He was overlooked by several good schools in the E/Cape and offered a bursary by DHS. All schools do it. Blame EP rugby for having their eyes wide shut.
@beet (Comment 76) : thank you
@beet (Comment 76) : poached…
@Megatron (Comment 78) : Any feedback on the band at St George’s Park?
@Ben (Comment 79) : they’re sponsored by chevrolet as they wear branded clothing…
hey guys dont wanna spoil the party but http://www.saschoolsports.co.za/ is a pretty good sight for school sports results, not just rugby. I’m 23 by the by
@RuckingFun (Comment 81) : There are a few good sites.
Sharksworld don’t provide this coverage, so here is another link to a site with quite a good layout:
http://www.schoolrugbyscores.co.za/_provinces/provinces_sharks.htm
@Megatron (Comment 78) : Poached… like a rhino in the night… Poached… and taken to greener pastures… What a raw deal… 😆 you crack me up dude.
Lets keep an eye on these centres… I really hope to see some young dynamism coming through the seniors… They have to be there… I don’t want old merc’s coming through and pretending to love our jersey when really they love our climate and our big paycheque…. I want to see a team that LOVES the jersey – because they wanted to be in it since they ran out of the tunnels at school…
We have had those guys in the past – and we want them again…
@RuckingFun (Comment 81) :
@beet (Comment 82) :
here’s another Teen Sport website that was launched less than 2 weeks ago. Quite a good site.
http://www.teensport.co.za/index.html
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 84) : Good luck with that notion. I love our local SBR and the players but fact remains, we don’t produce enough talented players to sustain a top pro team. If we relied on our own steam we’d probably be back in the B- section of the Currie Cup.
Loving the jersey is an advantage Unions like the Bulls, Vrystaat and WP have over us. Many more talented kids grow up supporting and dreaming of play for those teams one day. That’s why I believe that the Sharks are the most professional team in SA. We contract these players and find a successful substitute for that natural love of the jersey.
@beet (Comment 86) : No for sure – I do completely understand buying in – look at some of our purchases that we have made.
Bismarck
Jannie
Eugen Van Staden
Beast
Jean Deysel
Mostert
Alberts
Ludik
etc etc – but I don’t like how we have managed our centres… And am peeved that there has been local talent that was talent to have vanished. Then we purchase Marius Joubert… Hence I say there must be talent out there… And we need to develop them…
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 87) :
What ever happened to Jean Stemmet?
Did he stay at Griquas?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 88) : I sadly haven’t heard from him since being released…
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 89) :
I thought he was certain to be the next big thing..
Limited opportunity in the Sharks midfield chasing our talent away..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 90) : Every time centres are dicussed I want summon the dark side and force choke someone…
PIO = Pionier in Vryheid?.
@Salmonoid (Comment 92) : Yes it’s in Vryheid if thats what you’re asking
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 87) : Ooops. Sorry. I misunderstood what you were getting at. Just the centres. Then you won’t be happy to hear that Hans Scriba is keen to sign Grey Bloem centres Jan Serfontein and Dries Swanepoel.
We have a pretty big KZN backline no.9:1.87m, no.10:1.90m, no.12:1.90m no.13 +/-1.93m
Regarding getting shools to submit results/match reports etc, I presume that all the schools would have newspapers and reporters that write for these papers, it may be a good place to start with them, who knows it could even be incorporated as part of their tasks and they could be evaluated on it.
@Salmonoid (Comment 92) :
@beet (Comment 93) :
WBHS takes them on in Vryheid next weekend.
@beet (Comment 94) :
Is that the du Preez kid in at flyhalf? Big boy isn’t he?
@beet (Comment 93) :
I know Pionier well, no was just saying that I yhink PIO is the abbreviation for Pionier, it wasnt mentioned amongst the earlier explanations.
I see that Pionier have focused on sevens and have done really well there in a national context.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : Maybe we can get our first school report on this game.
@beet (Comment 94) : I will forgive Hans – as long as there is a committed plan to develop talent…
@Salmonoid (Comment 99) : you going across for the game? You’re in Newcastle right?
@Salmonoid (Comment 98) : Yes I watched them at last years @tlantic Sevens in Dbn. They were polished. However I’m not sure any of the other KZN schools are taking 7’s seriously.
