Peter Grant has been ruled out of the Stormers’ match against the Brumbies tomorrow and will be replaced by Kurt Coleman, who was bracketed in along with Grant when the team was announced.
Peter Grant will fly back to Cape Town a week earlier than his team mates to recover in time for the play-offs.
In the meantime, superxv.com report that Earl Rose has been called to fly into Australia to join up with the Stormers ahead of their match against the Rebels next weekend. Earl Rose, currently playing in Griquas, has been playing for the Lions and then fell out with John Mitchell and has since not played top flight rugby.
We wish Grant a speedy recovery and all the best to Earl Rose in his new role.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
This has made my day.. Thank you WP!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : alil late for an april fools joke don’t u think? 😛 moral of the story “don’t drink and blog” tisk tisk
Lol hahahahahhahahahahaahahahaa!!!! Its not the 1st of April is it?
After watching a few episodes of border security I have some valuable advice for Rose.
BUY NEW LUGGAGE!!!!! The Dogs at the airports in Aus can pick up cocaine scent from AGES ago.
Earl Rose in his new role? What – laughing stock of the rugby universe or team jester with his Michael Jackson impersonations…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : at least you made us smile 🙂 best news for the sharks 🙂
Rich – prima aprilis is 1 April
The reserve orange peeler got injured at the Stormers?
If there was a coach that could bring out the best in Earl it IS Allister Coetzee.
Earl Rose is not that bad a player. He just needs someone to mentor him and to believe in his abilities as a player!! 🙄
Hopefully he’s become more disciplined at Griquas. And learned to tackle.
Seems to have done ok-ish for them in the VC.
Desperate times…..
@wpw (Comment 10) :
Noble of you to defend him Wes..
You do have a good point though, Coetzee won’t do something stupid unless he has absolutely no other option..
And as you said, its only the Rebels..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Wait what?
@wpw (Comment 10) : 9am on a friday and you’ve already drained a papsak?
Dude Earl needs a minder not a coach
In one thread I have made every Shark fan’s day and ruined a Stormer’s weekend..
@wpw (Comment 10) :
Alister will sure as hell teach him how to tackle…..or else he might get a klap from Schalk that will hurt more than tackling.
Stormers Entertainment must be a bit weak down under. Desperate desperate times
Ok seriously, players only get opportunities to make a come back like this probably once in their life. Even if he does not play I hope he adds value and makes an impression.
@Mocho (Comment 18) : I can see it in SA Rugby Magazine now… THE COMEBACK KID! Stormers superstar setting the scene alight… wait for it… not ….
Howcome the cape media aren’t all over this saying that Earl will be the Saviour of WP rugby? they do that with every other WP player.
If he learns to tackles or should I say grows some balls to atleast try than he will be fine,he is creative enough on attack but I’d love to see what he would do if willem alberts was running towards him ball in hand and his the last defender
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 19) : Well if he signs with the Voldy crowd then that may just happen. 😛
@wpw (Comment 10) :
1.) Earl Rose makes a come back for the stormers.
2.) I agree with you on a point.
Two absolute shockers in one day, what is the world coming to?
😆
@KSA Shark © (Comment 22) : Yep – bunch of clowns… (please can we have a Darth Vader emoticon)… HSM media IMO has no credibility…
The last time Earl played for WP he was one of our better up and coming players.
I still believe the Lions stuffed up his career just like they did with Solly Tybilika and numerous others!! 😈
This story may not be genuine.
@wpw (Comment 25) : To be fair to Earl….he was one of the better players on the 2009 EOYT…….but the 2nd stringers on that tour were overall shocking it must be said.
@wpw (Comment 25) : That is true
Earl could not make the step up,life goes on.
Not everybody can be a star.
But he is probably living his dream making a career out of something he loves.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 28) :
You hear about Andre Pretorius signing for Toulon??
Now THAT is even more of a shocker!! 😆 😯
Congratulations on your purchase, Stormers.
Also congratulations on being able to forgive Earl and his family after they so royally shafted you a few years ago.
@wpw (Comment 30) : haha he is a one season man. One season, with the Sharks in the CC. One season with the Snoils.
I read on twitter some one ask quade whose his most difficult flyhalf he played against, he said two guys. Can’t remember the first but Andre was one of them.
@wpw (Comment 30) : Its actually a veil to test the extent of their new installed rehabilitation program and new medical team… What better candidate?
@wpw (Comment 30) :

@Salmonoid (Comment 31) :
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves shall we??
We haven’t purchased anybody yet. 😕
@wpw (Comment 30) : @Mocho (Comment 32) : I used to be a bit of a Andre fan, those injuries killed him.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 36) : Still remember his boot and drop kicks
EARL ROSE, MASE KIND, WELCOME BACK !!!
@Mocho (Comment 37) : He used to get a backline going
To actually make a comeback or learn to tackle he needs to actually pitch up at a practice – or even better a game. I think the Lions found out his GPS needed replacing during a sevens tourno????
Even Brent Russel is in shock . . . Lol “@mark_keohane totally agree with you. Very strange selection but then WP have in the past let these players go.”
@wpw (Comment 35) : drat, now half the fun has gone out of this thread. Killjoy.
I had to read this twice just to make sure it wasn’t a joke. Seriously, are the Stormers that desperate?
@wpw (Comment 30) : It could be worse, they could have signed Rose 😈
the Sharks have Meyer Bosman, Cheetahs Naas Olivier, now the Stormers want in on the joke so they’re after Earl Rose. 😆
@DarkDestroyer (Comment 19) : What, you mean like their current cover with Luke Watson as “return of the king” – that one had me rolling around the aisles in Spar for hours!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 46) : You know the one… Megatron has it as his avatar!!!
@Megatron (Comment 45) : Funny, I thought our joke was JLP!
@Megatron (Comment 45) :

@SharonvanWyk (Comment 46) : They didn’t specify King of WHAT?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 50) : Come on, it’s SA Rugby magazine… They probably don’t even know how to spell “specify”!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 50) : Probably King of Kausing Kak (KKK!)
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 48) : you got 2…two tons of fun… 😆
@Megatron (Comment 53) : 😆 Very funny, Megsy-pooh! How you doin today? Still in my PJs watching the last of the frost on my thatch melting in the sun. FRIKKIN FREEZING here!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 52) : you got issues with Luke? 😕
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 54) : am great, just got out of a meeting, sipping on rooibos and trying to catch up on mail… 😀
bloody lucky peejays
@wpw (Comment 10) : 100% agree with you. He has tremendous talent and has the X-factor that many backline players miss and I for one will not be laughing at seeing that we have a harmless backline. Trust the Stormers to work on him, they are afterall the kings of backline play and players in SA. Think Earl can be a Cooper of some sort. Pity we are clueless when it comes to backline play else we would have tried to revive his career.
@Megatron (Comment 55) : Issues? Nope. I don’t do “issues” – the guy’s a born comic, and I just love the way he throws up over rugby jerseys! Laugh a minute! 😆
@Megatron (Comment 55) : Luke is so full of shit he has issues with himself.
I taught Ricky was the designated joke in the Stormers 🙁 now Rose!! Whose lions joker? And whose the Bulls joker? Our is def JLP! Lol
@Megatron (Comment 56) : Not sure if my PJs would agree with you!
@Mocho (Comment 60) : Jantjies and choose between Dewald Potgieter, Spies and Stegmann
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 62) : I guess the guys at the Stormers needed a good combo . . . .
McRicky with “Coke”
@Mocho (Comment 63) : 😆 Good one!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 59) : When you’re that volkak, the only problem comes when you get constipated with it!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 59) : and you know this how?
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 58) : nice 😛
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 61) : what do they know? they were bought into luxury… 😉
@Mocho (Comment 60) :
Isn’t it funny how this team of jokers is TOP of the SA conference??
Looks at the LOG AND the SCOREBOARD!! 😈 😆
@Mocho (Comment 60) : Lions jokers are Butch James & Andre Pretorius
@Mocho (Comment 60) : Bulls joker is Stefan Dippenaar, the guy is super kak…
@Mocho (Comment 60) : ignoring current form(-ish), the joke of the team should be wynand olivier for the bulls. No wait, Surely it must be Jaco vd Westhuizen???
@Megatron (Comment 70) : i still feel jaco vd Westhuizen should take first place with dippenaar a close second…
i can still remember the Reds flank (Higgenbottom i think) running away from dippenaar for a try at Suncorp… 😎
@Megatron (Comment 67) : You suave charmer you! 😛
@VanWilder (Comment 72) : yep Scotty showed both Meisiekind & Dippenaar a clean pair of heels 😀
@Mocho (Comment 60) : if you have steve as our lead singer and joost as an explayer you don’t need an joker on field
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 73) : lol it’s no effort when one is provided with inspiration 🙂
@franshark (Comment 75) : or pedrie for that matter 😛
@Megatron (Comment 76) : Thank you Meggie… You’ve put a big fat smile on my face for the rest of the day!
ROFLLMFAO!!
What a wonderful end to the week. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 14) :
So jokers of Super Rugby awards go to:
Bulls: Jaco van der Westey
Sharks: JLP
Cheetahs: Naas Olivier
Lions: Elton – for his dramatic fall from grace and going drinking with Os before a game
Stormers: Mcjanuarie and soon to be joined by Rose.
Why are Flyhalves so prominent on this list? :O
@Mocho (Comment 81) : Mostly useless flyhalves, it has to be said! 😆
@KSA Shark © (Comment 15) : What is a papsak and what does it mean to drain one? 😕
😆 😆 😆
Ah, I see the fairweather fan has arrived.
klemps, whatever happened to you after the Stormers comeback against the Blues??
You suddenly disappeared! 😈
@wpw (Comment 85) : yes he has waited for a reason to come back and troll. Took a while and of course isn’t performance related, but what can we expect?
As funny/sad as this is, the reality is that he’ll hopefully just gather splinters on the bench for most likely just one game… against the Rebels. And he really isn’t THAT bad, I’d still like to know what happened to Watts, surely he has more experience with the team. I’m guessing the emphasis on a valid visa for picking Rose means maybe Elgar doesn’t have one?
@wpw (Comment 85) : Let’s see if they can muster a similar comeback after halftime against the Rebels with their new pivot. 😈
@klempie (Comment 88) : seriously, is that the best? Coleman, I would think, should be a little better than Dewaldt at flyhalf.
@molly (Comment 89) : didn’t watch the game (except for Ricky’s kick on some highlites) but it does not sound like Duvenhage was bad at all plus he got the kicks in. I mean wasn’t he playing good ?
@molly (Comment 87) : I doubt Elgar has one but during pre season games Allisters attitude towards Elgar always seemed negative, as if he couldn’t wait to be rid of him. Just something I picked up on.
I’m also going to go out and just say as much as I hate everything about Earl Rose I don’t think he is as bad as he is made out to be. The way he and his father shafted WP back in the day he should never have been allowed near the squad again.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 92) : imo he has some talent but it is difficult to get going at the Lions – just little support, by which comment I mean that there are few experienced high quality players who know how to win and can guide a guy like Rose.
There seem to be quite a bit off the field stuff though with him.
@molly (Comment 89) :
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 92) :
Look, I think you both are spot on, even Wes made a good point earlier..
He will most likely only play IF Coleman gets hurt, and I fancy Coleman will play the full 80 against Giteau tomorrow, so whatever the Rebels can throw at them will be below that level.
So he will sit on the bench against one of the worst teams in the competition.
If only our coach backed our reserves like Coetzee does..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 94) : it’s not like Coetzee has a choice.
All other flyhalves crooked and Pienaar move didn’t happen.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 94) : I’m really worried about the Bulls game, seems Grant will be out for that one as well… And Cronje is only (hopefully) due back a week or two after that.
[email protected]Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 92) : That was my feeling too @Salmonoid (Comment 31) :
@Salmonoid (Comment 31) : Hadn’t seen that comment but yes, THAT should have been an eternal no no.
@Mocho (Comment 60) : They decided that if they have a big scrumhalf they can afford to have a small flyhalf.
@Megatron (Comment 69) : Butch james is more of a Joker from a pack of cards rather than the Joker of the ilk of Watson and Rose.
@klempie (Comment 83) : You really DO need to get out a bit more. 🙂
@KSA Shark © (Comment 99) : LOL
@molly (Comment 96) :
What is wrong with Grant?
How can he go from being bracketed in this weekend to being sent home and not playing until the playoffs?
@klempie (Comment 83) : It is the silver bag of wine that comes with a box of wine.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 103) : They consulted a specialist who recommended they not play him for 3 weeks or risk losing him long term
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 103) : That should explain the risks that WP are taking with their players.
JdV was the same a few weeks ago when he re-injured himself from an OLD injury sustained against the Crusaders. Oh and then Coetzee forgot to mention that the match against the Crusaders was the previous week.
if he keeps playing or trying to play players who haven’t recovered fully he is going to cost himself the title
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 103) :
Okay, so he is going to rest for three weeks..
Interesting..
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 105) :
Thanx, I did a quick bit of searching..
Strange..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 104) : Ah. So you will get more off your face than say, dooswyn?
Dig this quote from twitter; ” RT @88PHILLIP88: @TankLanning Hopefully DHL sends over gloves, headgear, shoulder pads, shin guards, cycling shorts, mouth guard and tampons for Earl Rose.”
Hehehe.
@Crock (Comment 110) : Tampons. ROFL
@klempie (Comment 109) : Cheapest way to sell low quality wine.
No box, cause I guess no-one wants to put their name to it.
Kinda like if a no-name brand brought out an no-name brand.
@McLovin (Comment 112) : 😀
@KSA Shark © (Comment 100) : whatever makes you sleep cosy at night 🙂
@molly (Comment 96) : imo stormers are a better team with Cronje there!
What happened to Ismaeel Dollie? I rated this guy a lot. He would have done well if he stayed for WP as now they have to go and rely on Rose. Wasn’t Dollie linked to the Sharks when Steve had his “issues”?
@Mocho (Comment 116) : He went to Australia and then to Japan and is now back to playing 10 for SK Walkmers in Cape Town, he is on the bench for a DHL WP invitational team tomorrow for some game in Knysna
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 117) : You KNOW you are not going to make it in pro Rugby if they import Earl Rose from ANOTHER province to play ahead of you.
jeez, but you okes are hard on old Earl, hey?
@robdylan (Comment 119) : ok ok no more Earl Jokes . . His a good player that did a few stupid things. The past is the past. Read somewhere the reason he got picked was because of visa and passport issues. The other fly half’s didn’t have one.
This really put a smile on my face.
Can`t wait to see him next to Ricky Mac D.
Oh wait, how would we ever see him in Ricky`s shadow? 😯
@Mocho (Comment 120) : Where does he keep his vsa / passport? Under one of the “strappings”, scrumcap, or’ lo’ and behold, in his cycling shorts? Can just see him whipping it out during a match to prove his “credentials” for being in the squad… 😀
