Hoff in line for Cheetahs return

Finally a little bit of good news to come out of the Sharks camp – Bok number 8 Ryan Kankowski is on track to be available for selection against the Cheeaths next weekend.

The hirsute loose forward suffered a zygomatic arch fracture – that’ fancy medical talk for a broken cheek bone – in a training ground accident shortly after the Sharks’ loss to the Stormers at Newlands and was initially expected to be out of action for between six to eight weeks, making a return ahead of the knock-out rounds of the Super Rugby competition quite unlikely.

We received word today from Sharks team doctor Ewoud van der Linde that the prognosis is far better than that, with the facio-maxillary surgeon generally giving players the all clear to play after 4 weeks. Kankowski is being conservatively managed in that regard, but the good news is that should he feel comfortable with it, he should be able to make his return next week.

We know that he’s simply aching to get back onto the field, so let’s keep fingers crossed that all goes according to plan and that Hoff will be able to come back into the selection framework for the crunch game in Bloemfontein.

  • Yep – all in agreement – Good news! @Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : Nice loose trio – Deysel on the bench, or Alberts – Deysel needs momentum…
