Keepin’ the dream alive

If ever there is a gullible fan when it comes to the Sharks…it must be me. When ALL hope is gone, a tiny little flame of hope will always burn , deep from within.

And the Superugby 2011 is no different. Being a new formula and an extremely long season, I think deep down in my heart the wicked flame of doubt was burning too. Will we be able to get bonus points when it counts? Will we get enough to beat the Bulls at least on the log? Will the guys’ mental and physical frames last? Will we have the BMT when we needed it? Will we this? Will we that?

It has been a rollercoaster ride so far – to say the least. Emotions are flying left right and centre. People are doubting the team and start to bet against them making the play-offs. One minute they are chokers, the next they are winners, but winning with a lot of luck involved or scraping through on their asses…or at least according to our couch coaches on here!

Then around comes the Bulls – I think our biggest rivals, no matter what competition. It’s that feeling of – “as long as we just beat them Bulls, I will not feel so bad if we lose the competition….Sad really. SAD SAD. SAD.

And yet here we are again. We were done and dusted according to some fans. Klaar, kapoet, finished. HOW can they beat the Tah’s with a pathetic record like that? The centre combo that is not working, is also not changing…and then they come and do it to me again…they light that blooming little flame to burn a bit higher! I sometimes wish I can be unlike a little child when it comes to my team. I have blind faith in their abilities. I will go against all odds and back them. Yes – I even pray for my team.

I defend them against all odds, from fans who are trying to convince me that its overs kedovers… You should have seen my victory dance after Saturday’s game! One would swear we won the cup. And THAT people is how much a little win means to me – THAT is how the Sharks will always keep my dreams alive.

Don’t say they don’t let us live (and themselves) on the edge?? It’s fricken exciting man!! Come on! Get off those negative horses and rejoice – our team has lit the fire of hope again!

Thanks Boys!! I have now even MORE blind faith in you that we can actually do this thing!!

  • Thanks for this Ice. Lets keep the faith in the sharks and not criticize but critique with the aim to improve. Black and White. Nothing else matters…

Just joking Ice but remember you fall so much harder the more blind your faith is!

  • Hey Ice, if the Sharks can build on the way they played against the Waratahs, there’s still some hope, but we will have to improve considerably if we would like to beat 3 teams in particular.

I’m not saying we can’t do it, I’m just saying, based on what I’ve seen so far, the Sharks will have to up their game to keep the dream alive.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 2) : I have left out the part ‘and because of this i have been hurt badly in the past”…but I just dont know – I seem to get up quickly when I fall down – it does not mean that it does not hurt… 😉

This is not an “dont nail the boys” kinda article – I am genuinely overjoyed that we have a little hope again!

  • Sharks need 5 against Cheetahs, 5 against Lions, 4 against Bulls. Total 61.

Stormers must then get 4 against Rebels, 0 against Bulls, 4 against Cheetahs. Total 60.

As simple as that – hope restored and we top the conference!

  • @King Shark – Kanko at 12! (Comment 7) : Not an impossible scenario. The way the Bulls are playing they could most definitely beat the Stormers. The last round game for us against the Bulls promises to be a great one. Glad to see that there are so many people for SW going.

  • @Letgo (Comment 4) : i have to agree… sharks really need to up the intensity, by quite a bit. if we keep on playing as we have been, then the only realistic oppertunity for points should be a tough game at the Coke Tin. Cheetahs and Bulls away should be too much IMO. i hope they prove me wrong.

  • @VanWilder (Comment 11) : IMO, the Sharks did up their intensity this weekend but failed to finish. If we get that right we can beat the Cheetahs. Just need to watch our handling and missed tackles.

  • its amazing how our emotions go through the roller coaster and trust the sharks to keep us going. That is the beauty of sport and why we keep coming back for more. Some people need to realise that winning is a privilege and not a right and we’ve been fortunate to having been part of the roller coaster since super-rugby began. When the day eventually comes, victory for the long standing fans will be all the more sweeter.

Anything can happen and with sharks rugby (And SA cricket :)) it usually does. I just hope i will be around to witness it.

I really wish i could go for the 18th June clash at Pretoria. I’ve yet to attend an Away game and what a brilliant one this could be; but thats 19 days away so let me not get carried away.

Next step is to get Bosman firing, and where better than to prove his doubters wrong than vs Cheetahs. All the best guys. we are routing for you.

  • @McLovin (Comment 17) : Yes I believe we’ll get to the play-offs, but of the 5 teams we might have to play, we don’t have the game (right now) to beat 3. So right now we’ll get to the play-ffs and that’s it. Unless we improof even more.

  • @McLovin (Comment 26) : I don’t know, its going to be a close one. Reds, Crusaders, Blues, Stormers…are all really close, with the Sharks, Waratahs, Highlanders and Bulls just kinda making up the numbers right now. All four of the latter would have to really improve a lot to get past the first play-offs and into the semi’s.

From there it will depend who got the home semis and therefore the rest, and it seems by the looks of things like those two teams will be the Reds and the Blues.

  • Am i the only one who thinks Stef should be played at 15, ludick doesnt see any one to pass to( main casualty being MVOVO), Bismarck offloads nicely with 1 hand but not often enough, Bosmans channel is costing us big time. Sharks depended heavily on Andries Strauss defence of that channel. So why not give Swanepoel a chance. He defends weell and runs strong. might not be flshy but we need reliability now.
