The Top Schools in South Africa are ranked in the top 30 and this log is updated every week after the weekend’s results, and after this weekend there is a new number one.
Affies have overtaken Grey College of Bloemfontein as the number one school rugby side. Westville is the Natal team that has dropped a few places and they are now ranked below Glenwood.
Here is your top 20:
1. Affies
2. Grey College of Bloemfontein
3. Selborne
4. Paarl Boys’ High
5. Monument
6. KES
7. Grey High of Port Elizabeth
8. Waterkloof
9. Kearsney
10. Bishops
11. Dale
12. Queen’s College
13. Oakdale
14. Noord-Kaap
15. Maritzburg College
16. Paul Roos
17. Glenwood
18. Westville
19. Florida
20. Rondebosch
Then there are those just below these – Diamantveld, Die Brandwag of Uitenhage, HTS Middelburg, Kemptonpark, Klerksdorp, Marais Viljoen, Menlopark, Nico Malan, Noordheuwel, Northwood, Paarl Gim and Tygerberg.

Just to let you all know I am totally against the ranking system, as most principals in KZN. Its encourages “buying of players” and other negative implications.
WESTVILLE!!!
😆
Incepto ne desistam!
This is THE best way to grow your schools site. A ranking system. Maybe you should intro 1 just for KZN. Mocho like many people out there hates it but it is filled with subjectivity and therefore gets people talking.
Personally I love rankings. I think it’s a reasonably good measure of performance. But don’t take them too seriously is my advice.
@beet (Comment 3) :
Thank you for the advise Beet..
An all KZN ranking system is a great idea and I will work on that for next week or maybe even later this week..
@Big Fish (Comment 2) : when did you matriculate ? 🙂
@beet (Comment 3) : I guess it takes away that sense of tradition. If a school is doing good at rugby they would want to go and play other schools in the top ten and not play their local teams. Like Glenwood vs Northwood. Glenwood focused on beating the top ten schools, then get beaten by Northwood. Its the derby matches that are the most exciting. That’s just my opinion 🙂
@Mocho (Comment 5) : He’s about 60 years old. A looooooong time ago.
YEAH, Affies 😀
😀
Yeah, Monnas 😀
Yeah Selborne, Dale, QC 😀
@diablo (Comment 8) : You left out the Bulls numero uno team : Waterkloof!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 7) :
😈 Batsard!
@Mocho (Comment 5) :
1997: the year of living dangerously.
So KSA is close. 😉
@beet (Comment 9) : Did I now? Was not aware that this is a Bulls-related thread 😯 – happy for teams that are close to my heart 😉
@Big Fish (Comment 10) : Hehe. They doing some good stuff there atm. Building a state of the art aquatic centre. Westville war cry ” We beat you in the pool, now we going beat you at School”. Hehe
@Mocho (Comment 12) : I wish you guys would get a few extra bucks from the lotto and put in a some more seats for rugby season.
@diablo (Comment 11) : I was just pulling your leg. I figured that if you liked Affies, you’d have no time for Klofies.
@beet (Comment 13) : hahaha . . Yeah I agree. They did put a new stand for the old boys though. Westville needs more Fields. Some rugby schools practice 3 to 4 times a week, where as westville is rectricted to 2times a week. Not the first team ofcourse. They wanted to buy Westville Hotel and turn into a field sometime back, but that didn’t come through.
My dad’s part of the governing body, I will inform him of your complaint.
@beet (Comment 14) : 😎
@Mocho (Comment 15) : Thanks Mocho. Throw in a car park while you’re at it. I’m tired of parking so far up Jan H Drive that I’m under a road sign saying “Welcome to Pinetown”
Well Dale play Grey PE this weekend so that should be a cracker and could mean a shift in the rankings!
@beet (Comment 17) : lol we not a Kearsney now 😉 Yeah the school is still one of the youngest in KZN, before Clifton ofcourse. On that topoc, with the financial resources, Clifton could become a strong sporting school in the future.
@Mocho (Comment 19) : Clifton are making big strides but being such a small school in terms of numbers, I doubt they’ll ever be able to pose a sustained challenge even if they’re prepared to very dig deep into their pockets and dish out lots of rugby bursaries.
Where’s my alma mater, Pretoria Boys?
@robdylan (Comment 21) : You forgot to end your comment with the ”
“
@Villie (Comment 18) : I’m just glad that there are 4 EC schools in the top 12 and 3 of them played in the Kearsney festival this year. Add Grey Bloem and Kearsney to list and you’ll realize that RS had or has good bunch to select from. g
@GreatSharksays (Comment 23) : The 3rd EC school at Kearsney Fest was Nico Malan. Monnas (+/- 10 Craven Week players), Paarl Gim (normally a top 10 powerhouse school) and Glenwood (usually KZN no.1 team with 9 C/W players) were there too.
Who is RS (Rudolph?)
Apparently Westville have not been able to find a kicker capable of hitting the side of a barn hence their gradual slip through the rankings. 🙄
@Mocho (Comment 1) : I completely agree that the school ranking system is a waste of time, misleading and has no scientific way of measurement. If there was a format where all the schools listed above played each other at least once during the season then maybe, but at this point it’s all conjecture.
