Bok scrumahlf Fourie du Preez stands an outside chance of being named in the Bulls team to face the Stormers in Cape Town this weekend, after a near miraculous recovery from a medial knee ligament strain sustained against the Sharks three weeks ago.

The enigmatic du Preez, a vital cog in the Bok machine in this World Cup year, was initially expected to be out of action until the play-offs at least, but has apparently been running without hindrance at training this week and may well come into the selection frame. Worse news for the Sharks is that he is probably an odds-on certainty to start in next weekend’s crunch game at Loftus too.

The Bulls will, of course, need to carefully weigh up the pro’s and con’s of risking du Preez at this stage, although they know full-well that a loss against the Stormers could effectively put paid to their knock-out aspirations this season. With every match now a do-or-die affair for the men from Loftus, The coaching staff may well decide that it’s worth the gamble to pick their strongest possible lineup – which of course incudes du Preez at nine.

A further injury, though, could have disastrous consequences for the Springboks later this year.

  • This risk might be costly… 👿

  • From a Bok perspective it’s certainly not worth the risk. 😐

  • Wouldnt chance it. The bulls are on a bit of a run, no need to change the winning formulae, especially if it means risking FdP in a physical stormers game.

That being said, this weekend the bulls are going to need there strongest 22 to defeat the stormers at home. I’d play him off the bench, BUT only if the need arises.
