Bok lock Bakkies Botha will not play for the Bulls against the Stormers this weekend, it has been confirmed. The abrasive second-rower has failed to recover in time from a knee strain and will thus miss the opportunity to earn his 100th Super Rugby cap at Newlands.
There was a slight chance that another Bok, Fourie du Preez, could have made an earlier-than-expected return to action this week as well. The scrumhalf sustained medial knee ligament damage three weeks ago and was initially thought to be out for the remainder of the competition. His recovery has been nothing short of remarkable though – although the Bulls medical staff have opted not to risk him for this weekend’s outing either.
Meanwhile the Stormers look set to be boosted by the availability of regular halfbacks Dewald Duvenage and Peter Grant, both of whom are looking likely to be passed fit for selection.

Advantage Bulls, in my opinion. Far less likely to concede kickable penalties, and Danie Rossouw won’t let their side down.
