Welcome to the Windhoek Lager Team of the Week for Round 18. We have decided to make it an all South African team and base it only on the weekend matches. So if your favourite player did not play on the weekend, he will not be in the team.
Thanks must go to Windhoek Lager for sponsoring this weekly Team. We will have a Team of the Year competition at the end of the season, so make sure to take note of certain players who consistently make the team.
[adrotate banner=”47″]
1. Dean Greyling – Gave Jannie a hard time and made him look like a school boy prop. Greyling showing his Bok worth and could well have cemented a ticket to New Zealand later this year.
2. Bismarck du Plessis – Big match from the big man and has shown how much better an all round hooker he is when he keeps his penalty count down.
3. Wiehahn Herbst – What a change this young man made when he came on. Although a lot can be put down to fresh legs, he had the correct technique to show up the highly rated Werner Kruger.
4. Gerhard Mostert – My man of the match in the game against the Bulls, and finally we got to see the real Mossie stand up. Gerhard can really cement his position in the Sharks team in this Currie Cup, and potentially even get into the Bok team post-Bakkies.
5. Al Hargreaves – Finally the Sharks lock-pair having a good game. Hargreaves is a potential future captain and will have to be the best in his position if we want to avoid our current situation.
6. Keegan Daniel – Had an absolute storming match and how did he get rewarded, by being dropped from the Springbok selectors. At least he will be in the Sharks squad to win us another Currie Cup.
7. Francois Louw – Not many stand out blindside flankers this weekend, with Flouw the better of the bunch.
8. Duane Vermeulen – Vermeulen was a legend before leaving the field with an injury, and did well to build up his World Cup chances.
9. Francois Hougaard – The scrumhalf-cum-winger had a massive game on Saturday night, scoring a good try just before the end of the game. Good prospect to take over from Fourie.
10. Fred Michalak – The French maestro showed the French coaches what they are leaving out of their World Cup squad, and damn this man is going to have a huge influence on our Currie Cup campaign.
11. Ryno Benjamin – Scoring a hat trick against the Stormers is no mean feat, and the Springbok Sevens player really played well on the night.
12. Meyer Bosman – He is making these good performances in successive weeks and really standing up at the right time of the season.
13. Stefan Terblanche – If ever I thought there was a player I wouldn’t put in my Team of the Week, it would be Stef, but you have to give it to him, he really stood when it counted most, and credit where it’s due: Stef – you played a heluva game.
14. JP Pietersen – Whadaplaya! You cannot keep this man out of the match and away from the tryline. He just keeps popping up in the right place and has the work rate not matched by any other winger. I am going to make a bold statement and say that this man can win us the World Cup.
15. Pat Lambie – Even playing in a position for the first time this season cannot keep this man out of our team. Well played Pat, you are a true legend!

Were the Sharks the only winning team this past weekend??
Ek vra ma net!! 😈
@wpw (Comment 1) :
Just check the opposition!
Rich. Hougaard scored his try just before the final whistle not before half time.
Its a good team but Sias Eberson had a better game than Fred and Lambie didnt have such a great game he is a good player but with both the bulls tries he was found out of position my 15 would be
1. Greyling
2. Bismark
3. Wp Nel
4. Mostert
5. Hargreavs
6. Daniels(player of the weekend)
7. Louw
8. Vermeulen
9. Mcloud
10. Eberson
11. Benjamen
12. Bosman
13. J Fourie
14. Peterson
15. Lambie
It was really great to see how Pat Lambie got involved in the backline this weekend. Playing the 10/12 position a lot of the time to keep the Sharks on atack. Lets hope Bosman can put in another great performance like this weekend. GO SHARKS!!!
Will this be the final round/team of the tournament?
@wpw (Comment 1) : Winning does not always mean you were the best in your respective position out of all the contenders…especially taking into consideration the different oppositions…
Sê maar net!! 😈
@ Rich!! I am so happy you put Oupa in their!! Specially for me I am sure!! 😆
@Mutley (Comment 3) : You must seriously be kidding re your Lambie comment?? 😯
@Mutley (Comment 3) :
After watching the game a 2nd time I also saw that Lambie was caught out of position on several occasions. I suppose he was caught out a couple of time because he was joining the line but it is still a concern and should be addressed before the Saders game.
@Ice (Comment 7) :
I watched the game again last night and Lambie was caught out of position on quite a few occasions.
@Mutley (Comment 3) : hey hey… howzit Mutley. Where’s your mate Dastardly? 🙂
@Pokkel (Comment 9) : And the rest of his game?
@Ice (Comment 6) : 🙄
Seriously? Lambie-bashing after this weekend’s game?
Harsh critics indeed.
@robdylan (Comment 13) : Maybe it’s just jealousy. Pat made our winning try by drawing two defenders. JPP drew three defenders to set up Oom Stef!
@robdylan (Comment 13) : Indeed…
@robdylan (Comment 13) : @war1 (Comment 14) : @Viking (Comment 15) :
Thanks… 😉
@robdylan (Comment 13) : I think people forget that he has not even turned 21 yet. 😯
@robdylan (Comment 13) :
Dude that isn’t Lambie ‘Bashing’ . Just an honest observation.
@Pokkel (Comment 18) : So he’s been out of place on a couple occassions…when last did he have to play 15? And in such a crunch game, coming in on a new position. In my opinion the rest of his game was great. So one bad spot makes the whol apple unedible?
Did he not swop positionally on the field and whoever had to cover him did not?
@Pokkel (Comment 9) : what were you thinking? lambie is beyond reproach 😀
watch if carter exploits that space this weekend.
@Pokkel (Comment 18) :
and I’m sure Todd Blackadder would have picked up on it as well.
In his defense he was involved up front a lot and it created some chances for the Sharks but that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t out of position on a couple of occasions.
@Megatron (Comment 20) : Then I’ll personally have a word with Carter and smack his bum! 😆
Chilliboy outplayed Bismark in the first half.
Sias was pretty good, but he didn’t turn the game the way Fred did.
Pierre Spies was damn good in fact he was unstoppable at times when carrying the ball..it took the beast and a few loosies to take down the big man..i hope he peaks in the world cup….
@Muzi (Comment 24) :
Spies definitely had one of his better games on Saturday.
Dan Carter is a bully i remember at newlands he had a shocker um 3 years ago…the south african loose forwards had his number especially schalk burger…he is human line sonny ‘thug’ bill williams some one has to smash him when i mean smash him i mean spear tackle him..then this whole dan carter fascination will stop
a very overrated human species hehehehe
@Pokkel (Comment 25) : Pierre Spies was clever he knows he had to save himself for the world cup i mean the guy is 26 he does not want to miss the world cup again…look at duene vermuelen he was on fire huffing and puffing hoping to wear the bok number 8 jersey now he is injured tough luck..good news for kanko and yster spies
@Big Fish (Comment 23) : Sias reminds me of naas botha he is great on attack but when it comes to defence 😕 i though all the grey college ex players know how to tackle
@Muzi (Comment 26) : Sya that again and this time with some commas etc. I have no idea what you were trying to say.
What I did het is that you said Carter is a bully??? Something he did THREE yrs ago?? if so, it makes him a bully? A bully in my opinion is someone like Bakkies Botha that does something thuggish in almost every game.
Nou het jy my sommer de blixem in!! 😆
@Muzi (Comment 26) : his “shocker” according to you, was it the game the all blacks beat the springboks 19-0 with carter scoring a try? 😀
@Ice (Comment 29)@Megatron (Comment 30) : Yea he missed like all his kicks
Sias over Fred pffft!
@Ice (Comment 29) : Bakkies at loftus was after little pat lambie in fact the whole bulls team was after pat the poor baby faced kid
@Muzi (Comment 33) : he IS still a baby!
@Ice (Comment 34) : he is my age
@Muzi (Comment 26) : 😯 If you think DC is overrated you`re probably a bull supporter as well ?

@Muzi (Comment 31) : it was percy’s 100 and he also missed 2 sitters (penalties).
@Muzi (Comment 35) : Ohhh – so it takes one baby face to recognise another? 😉
@Muzi (Comment 26) : how is DC a “bully” Muzi? 🙄
@Muzi (Comment 26) :
@Megatron (Comment 39) :
Dang! You done brought down the wrath of the Decepticons on yourself! 😆
Carter is absolute class. One can’t deny that.
@Big Fish (Comment 40) :
But he is no Lambie is he?? 🙄 😕
(just thought I’d get that out of the way) 😈
@wpw (Comment 41) :
Shurrup: the Stormers still have to tour! 😈 😆
@wpw (Comment 41) : @Big Fish (Comment 42) : you guys are hilarious
😆
Not sure if Carter is a bully but I have seen him take a dive when confronted by Willem Alberts breaking around the blind side.
Lambie is a good player but you cant expect someone to suddenly play 15 after almost 12months at 10. He is our 10 after the worldcup not the fullback. The fullback should be Jaco Taute
@Mutley (Comment 45) : Jaco Taute? You picked the wrong week to suggest that 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 46) : Taute is no full back i mean with allll that super 15 experience he still couldn’t tackle that owen wade guy from england
@robdylan (Comment 46) : @Muzi (Comment 47) : Jaco Taute’s defence has been found wanting many a time at the lines. Doesn’t matter where he plays, he needs to work on his defence.
@Ben (Comment 48) : At the Lions I mean.
@Ben (Comment 48) : Just like Piet Lindeque apparently he did not go to the world cup because he is scared to tackle
@Ben (Comment 49) : Do not worry skosan is worse……moolman suspect all the new kids on the block except lambie need to work on defence….
@Muzi (Comment 50) : Have Basically seen nothing at all off Piet Lindeque. So can’t rate there.
@Muzi (Comment 51) : Yup including Paul Jordaan. Or else he might just end up with his head in the bushes again! 🙂
In an ideal world…
Sharks beat Crusaders, Blues beat Waratahs.
Stormers loose to Blues and Sharks beat Reds.
Sharks beat Blues in Auckland and are crowned Champions.
The travelling is, imo, the biggest hurdle to being crowned winners of the Super XV. Atleast we are getting our leg out the way early…
Taute is a very good player his work rate is good and he is deadly on attack, his defence is wanting but he is standing out in a team of no names. If he was in a good settled team he would be looking much better, the lions are starting to look good. Watch him in the Curry Cup
@Mutley (Comment 55) : is he your son? 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 56) : 😆
Im only like 2years older than him so i hope not. Im just saying he is a good player
