The Sharks have landed safely in Sydney, thus completing the second leg of their somewhat long-winded journey to sleepy New Zealand hamlet of Nelson, where hey will face the Crusaders on Saturday.
The team left Durban at around midday yesterday, but were held up for almost three hours at OR Tambo in Johannesburg yesterday evening, as the Chilean ash cloud delayed the departure of their flight to Sydney. While there was some initial concern that the plane might be diverted en route to Brisbane, which would have caused more than a few logistical problems, the good news is that the airport in Sydney managed to reopen in time for the plane to land and although the boys may well have missed their initial connecting flight to Wellington, I’m sure another plan can hastily be made.
Thanks go to Eugene van Staden – who seems to be taking to Twitter like a fish to water – for being the first member of the tour party to break the news of their safe arrival on the micro-blogging website.
