DIE BRON!!! 😯 😆
Bwahahahahaha
😆 😆 😆
Morne Steyn is one of the candidates in the ‘sexiest men’ category
LMFAO!!!!
What is the world coming too??
Rob, how do you know about this? 😯 😈
@Salmonoid (Comment 3) :
He probably got a tip off from Ice. 😈
Gee wizz guys I voted already ages ago! And call me odd I find Morne Steyn as one of the least sexy men in world rugby much less in RSA which has many sexy guys 😳
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 5) :
So you admit to reading ‘Die Bron’ 😉
@Pokkel (Comment 4) : Or from Sharon. 😉
“Coveted Award” nogal.
@Salmonoid (Comment 8) :
I don’t know if we should even vote for Pat…..he might just feel very out of place at the ‘Huisgenoot’ awards.
@Salmonoid (Comment 8) : 😆
Got to agree. Can’t see what’s so coveted about this “award”. 😯
@ Pokkel yes I admit to reading it every now and again 😳 😆
Come Pokkel its in the YOU as well which is for souties 😕
@Pokkel (Comment 9) : Pat looks like a really cool bloke, Im sure he will see the funny side of it.
Im going to vote for him now.
@Pokkel (Comment 4) : Looks like Ice is more involved than we think – the code to SMS is YS 10d
:lol; @ Salmanoid
some okes here score very low on the “appreciating irony” scale 🙂
@Salmonoid (Comment 14) : I thought I’ce was more like a 32D 🙂
Just voted
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 12) :
Are you allowed to say ‘soutie’ on this site?
😉
@Pokkel (Comment 19) : it’s borderline 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 17) : Ill take your word for it. I havent met her yet. 😥
@Pokkel (Comment 19) : 😈
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 12) :
Same content though 😈
@Salmonoid (Comment 8) : Geez dude, it’s like we share brain space. That “coveted” jumped out as if it was lit up in neon!
As mentioned by a couple of people already I hardly think this is a “coveted” prize!! I voted anyway, on the website and via SMS – we’ll see if the YOU mag people catch on!
@ Pokkel oops I think I may be in trouble 😉
Hey guys as silly as it sounds a couple of years ago I think in 07 they had Bissie Vs Spies and Spies got it its time a Shark took this award 😉 😆
@Pokkel (Comment 2) : eewww. Did they just grab some names out of a lucky packet? I can think of half a dozen better looking rugby players and none of them wear powder blue.
I think it shows how long I have lived outside of SA as I don’t recognise a quarter of those names on the list
Lostfish they have to keep the blue cows happy 😉
@robdylan (Comment 16) : I love the heading.
@lostfish (Comment 28) :
Don’t worry neither do I! Seriously!
@lostfish (Comment 28) :
It also shows the quality of the publication and who predominantly reads it 😳
lambie will take this at a canter, sharon alone will sms 20 000 times 😆
😆 @ Megatron
The Huisgenoot award will be the beginning of the end of this lads career.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 35) : bwhahahahahahahaha 😆
@Megatron (Comment 33) : Have you sms’d yet, it will get you brownie points from Sharon.
I see the Huisgenoot has got a Dylan (Ray Dylan) on the front cover. I wonder if he is any family of Robs.
@Salmonoid (Comment 38) : ja wonder hey 😉
@Salmonoid (Comment 38) : and I wonder who sings better? 🙂
@franshark (Comment 40) : maybe we have some hidden talents here on SW…..
@Salmonoid (Comment 37) : i don’t need brownie points with Shazzy 😎
@Megatron (Comment 42) : None the less, voting for Pat will keep you in the loop that little bit longer. Do it, vote for Pat now. You know you want to anyway.
@franshark (Comment 39) : I know rob is a singer/guitarist. I also know his surname is Otto so I presume that he took on the Dylan as a open show of his hero worship of Ray.
@Salmonoid (Comment 43) : HAHAHAHA you’re a funny guy
@Salmonoid (Comment 44) : Bob Dylan (formerly known as Robert Allen Zimmerman), not Ray Dylan.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 46) : Hi DB, thats what I would have thought until Rob wrote thet he doesnt really fancy like the genius. Ray is the next option then. 😉
Do you like Bob Dylan, I have been listening to Tell Tale Signs. I have driven many, many miles with Bob wailing away, love it.
@Salmonoid (Comment 47) : I listen to Bob Dylan a lot, he is a superb lyricist and poet, his singing voice not the best, but a great all around entertainer.
@Salmonoid (Comment 47) : Not sure where Rob posted he did not like Bob Dylan, but I know he has expressed plenty of respect for him in the past.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 49) : Maybe Ive got the wrong end of the stick. I seem to remembering being surprised because I thought that was where he got the nick from.
Anyway, month end is done and dusted. Time to hit the road, Bob taking a backseat to Brandi Carlile today.
@Salmonoid (Comment 50) : Have a good evening Salmo…..Be well.
@Salmonoid (Comment 47) : @Dancing Bear (Comment 48) : Personally, I love his singing voice, particularly over the last couple of albums. I was pretty obsessed with Together Through Life a few months ago.
@Culling Song (Comment 52) : Hmmm love his singing voice??? 😉 Like I said, I think he is one of the greatest poets and lyricists around and he is an entertainer, which is why I love listening to his music and seeing him live. His ability to keep his audience entertained and the thought provoking lyrics allow me to get past his voice! 😉 😀
@Salmonoid (Comment 50) : @Dancing Bear (Comment 49) : seems I missed a goodie while I was trying to get the CC FL sorted 🙂
Just to be clear… robdylan is a nickname that a good friend from varsity came up with because of my musical leanings, but not necessarily as an indication of my love for Mr Zimmerman himself.
It is true that I don’t rate Dylan overly much as a performer and won’t really listen to his original material by choice. I am, however, a HUGE fan of his songs as covered by other, better singers and regularly include a Dylan number of two in my performances.
Dear Pat,
You ?????
Sincerely, Astounded 😆
@Megatron (Comment 42) : Too true! I haven’t actually voted! But hey, it’s such a quality publication, I feel that perhaps I should make my mark next to Morne!!!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 56) : this approach totally makes sense
@rekinek (Comment 55) : I somehow think that this is the very last award our dear SuperPat would covet. Not that he would actually covet any award. He’s just too darned nice! 😎
@rekinek (Comment 57) : Glad you see the intelligence in the thought pattern there! Bwaaahhahaaa!!! 😆
The day is catching up with me…. been at the Currie Cup media launch… a “cook off” between players and coaches etc of the provinces and media, SARU and Absa bigwigs… Fun. But the Sharks lost (someone decided to give us Roasted Vegetable Kebabs as our chosen dish to braai???) The winners? The Bulls, with a whole roasted hoender. And they cheated by using ingredients which weren’t on the recipe. 😛
@robdylan (Comment 54) : See like me, you think he is a great lyricist and poet, just as long as someone else is doing the singing! 😉
@Dancing Bear (Comment 60) : exactly… reading what you wrote above, I thought it could have been me writing it 🙂
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 59) : Vegetable Kabobs???? That is just not South African! How can any true South African braai without any vleis??????
@robdylan (Comment 61) : 😆 Our views of Bob are shared by many others, trust me. Extremely successful performer for a below average guitar player with a poor singing voice. 😀
@Dancing Bear (Comment 53) : I have a bit of a thing for singers with limited/strange voices… Bob, Tom Waits, David Yow, Mike Skinner, Layne Staley, Jimi Hendrix, etc. It’s almost like the limitations forces them to do interesting stuff to compensate, and not just lyrically. In fact, most of the time I don’t really pay much attention to lyrical content
@Dancing Bear (Comment 62) : The Lions got the, um, lion’s share of the meat… But John Mitchell and Doppies didn’t manage to cook all of it within the alotted time frame. It was actually a great laugh but the six of us on the Sharks team (led by JLP!) felt we’d been dealt the “Bryce Lawrence” card of the cook-off…
@Culling Song (Comment 64) : Jimi Hendrix made up for his limited vocal ability with some of the most amazing guitar playing I have ever listened to. I like your choice of music. It’s a good thing none of us are at all eccentric! 😆
😛
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 65) : 😆 I was going to ask if Paddy O’Brien or Bryce Lawrence were the official judges of this competition. 😀 I’m not surprised that Mitchell was not able to cook all the meat in time, he is a Kiwi after all, and what do they know about braaiing????? 😆
That’s one thing I will give the Americans credit for, they are very good at the whole Barbeque thing, and seem to enjoy it as much as South Africans do.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 66) : Amazing really that he could get a Strat to sound THAT good!!!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 68) : 😆 don’t like strats do you? Funny, I play one, the three pickups and 5 position switch do allow a wide range, I especially like the out of phase settings. Of course will never have that throaty sound of a Telecaster, and is certainly no Paul Reed Smith guitar sound. 😉
@Dancing Bear (Comment 67) : Ja. No. Well. Fine… We got points for presentation, but the Bulls stole table arrangements to make their chicken look better, and even had the gall to take the replica of the Currie Cup and put it on their table! I strode over there and waved a sosatie stick at those cheeky blue apies and we removed said trophy to its rightful table!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 70) : 😆 Stealing the replica of the CC may be the only way they are going to get close to it for the next few years! 😀
@Dancing Bear (Comment 71) : Bwaaahaaahaaaa! Good one! 😆
Im outta here. It’s freezing in my office and it’s been a looonnngggg day. Nite 😛 everyone!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 73) : Night Shaz, curl up by the fire and have a nice glass of wine tonight! Cheers.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 74) : Cheers DB. Will do! 😛
@Dancing Bear (Comment 69) : OK, so here is a question for all you guitar experts. Jimi Hendrix played a right handed Stratocaster upside down (left handed). The front pickup on a Strat is angled with the pickup under the high e string being further forward than the pickup under the low e string. I assume that Fender did it this way for a reason since both other pickups are straight up and down. So the question is does the stratocaster sound different being played upside down when the switch is set to the front pickup?
…:_:..??
@bergshark (Comment 77) : hehehehe, Super 15 is over for the Sharks, thought I would move the discussion away from Rugby for a while. 😆 😛
Adam duritz from the counting crows (vocals)
@Dancing Bear: 😀
@bergshark (Comment 79) : I like the Counting Crows
@Dancing Bear:please rob,a platinum star for Dancing Bear 🙂
@Sharonvanwyk:see robert ebersohn was also at the braai comp(just showed bit of it on sabc news).
@bergshark (Comment 82) : Thanks boet, I’ll earn it though. 😆
@robdylan:please,rob,a platinum star for Dancing Bear 🙂
@bergshark (Comment 85) : If I keep coming here late in the day when everyone else is gone, and post multiple posts to myself, I may make it to that platinum star one day! 😉
@Dancing Bear: think the crows’ live performances (acoustic)of their hits is invcredible.love how adam duritz manages to merge songs into a song.
@Dancing Bear:that is one way of getting to that platinum star.:-)
Write an arti on music,send it to rob,and then I think you get credited the comments on that thread.
@bergshark (Comment 87) : He is like a story teller. Story tellers have this ability to flow from song to song easily. Arlo Guthrie is superb at this. I once saw him in concert, and he started by saying: “I am going to start a lot of songs tonight, and probably will not finish most of them, as my mind wanders to a different song. But don’t worry, chances are I will get back to that song and finish it later in the concert.” 😆
@bergshark (Comment 88) : Hmmmm wonder how I can combine an article on front row play and music! 😉
@Dancing Bear:front row play and music..? Hmmm..? What about pavarotti,domingo?
Or maybe I will just get Shaz to pen an article for me as my ghost writer! 😆
@bergshark (Comment 91) : 😆 😆 😆 Awesome, but would he make a better tighthead or loosehead. I am thinking that an article on the three tenors (who would make an awesome front row combination)! 😀
@Dancing Bear:cooment89: had a 17minute version of leonard cohen singing “hallelujah” ,but somehow deleted it 🙁
@bergshark (Comment 94) : Handel’s Messiah? Didn’t think it was the Battle Hymn of the Republic. 😆
@Dancing Bear: the 3 tenors,yes.think the 3rd one was jose carreras ?
@bergshark (Comment 96) : Jose Carreras it was, he was the skinny one! 😆 Probably the Hooker in the front row of tenors! 😉
@Dancing Bear (Comment 95) : And considering that Leonard Cohen is Canadian, I seriously doubt he ever sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic. 😆
@Dancing Bear (Comment 66) : Hendrix – virtuoso guitarist, barely competent singer. I like that combo. I like it when musicians have a handicap; pure vituosity (a la Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, etc.) bores the living daylights out of me. I always think what they do amounts to musical masturbation; it’s all for their own gratification.
Of course I’m being a huge hypocrite here, because I like jazz like Miles Davis, Coltrane, Albert Ayler, etc. And that is complete instrumental wankery, albeit done supremely skilfully 😆
@Dancing Bear: best lines for me from crows’ song(most emotive at least):well,I walk in the air between the rain,through myself and back again.where? I don’t know.
@Culling Song (Comment 99) : Not much for improvisation are you CS? 😉 I love Jazz, but they even do “instrumental wankery” with their voices. 😆
@bergshark (Comment 100) : Staying dry by walking between the raindrops! 😉
Ha, all the pictures I have seen with the Three Tenors has Domingo on the right, Carreras in the middle, and Pavorotti on the left, so I guess that makes Domingo the tighthead, Carreras at Hooker and Pavorotti as our massive loosehead!
@Dancing Bear (Comment 103) : Playing kit will consist of white tie and tails! 😆
@Dancing Bear (Comment 104) : Oh and patent leather rugby boots!
@Dancing Bear:comment95:sorry,you lost me there 😀
Dancing Bear:Comment103:would like to know the combined weight of that front row ..!then you could play two athletic locks and keegan ,botes,kanko in loosies 😀
@bergshark (Comment 106) : Handel’s Messiah has the Hallelujah Chorus, the Battle Hymn of the Republic also has a chorus that includes Hallelujah……Glory Glory Hallelujah, Glory Glory Hallelujah, Glory Glory Hallelujah, His truth is marching on.
@bergshark (Comment 107) : Hell, with that front row, we could make Keegan and Botes our locks! 😆
Didn’t know it was called”battle hymn of the republic”.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 108) : Battle Hymn of the Republic was written by Julia Ward Howe in 1861. Became a popular American Civil War song.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 101) : I like improv, although mostly in jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music, not so much on electric guitar, and not at all if it is guitar solo based. Play some drones, finger pick, assault it with a screw driver – cool. Play a classic guitar hero solo – gag. That’s pretty much the lay of the land in the Culling Song universe
@bergshark (Comment 110) : It is considered a very patriotic American song and is sung often at funerals of high ranking American officials.
Comment109: 😀 😀
@Culling Song (Comment 112) : Hmmmmm ever heard of Eric Johnson? Cliffs of Dover, spectacular instrumental song, and it was written and performed by Eric Johnson when he was only 19.
@Dancing Bear: thanks for the info.( I take it “battle hymn of the republic ” was a union favourite? You would remember that tv series on sabc in the 80’s on the us civil war?think it was called the blue and the grey? )
@Dancing Bear (Comment 113) : And there’s a pretty good punk band called Titus Andronicus that’s incorporated the Battle Hymn into one of their recent songs and ruffled a few feather to boot…
@Dancing Bear:have to go make me some dinner now.have a great day (don’t know the time where you at now).and write the article !:-)
@bergshark (Comment 116) : Yep, the Blue and the Grey. Although they probably spelled it Gray. 😆 Yep, a Union song. Did you know that Sarie Marais was taken from a rebel song during the civil war called Ella Rhee? A song about an escaped slave that returned to the plantation because his beloved had died in slavery there and was buried on the plantation.
Then carry me back to Tennessee
there let me live and die
among the fields of yellow corn
where ella rhee lie
@bergshark (Comment 118) : Cheers have a good evening.
@Dancing Bear:comment119: never knew that..very interesting bit of history that you’ve just shared with me.
Thanks:-)
@bergshark (Comment 122) : Any time. Be well.
I too need to get out of here. Cheers all!
@Dancing Bear (Comment 115) : Fraid not, sir. Most famous Johnson I know is Robert, the blues musician who sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads at midnight, apparently
@Dancing Bear (Comment 76) : actually, it’s the rear, or bridge pickup, that is slanted…. nobody seems completely sure why Leo did that, but the general consensus is that it balances out the tones across the scale… as you know, notes played near the bridge tend to be quite sharp, so I think Leo wanted to ensure that the treble was extra twangy and the bass still clear…
As to how much effect it had, well… as you rightly point out, Jimmy had his angle going to opposite way and it still sounded better than virtually any other strat ever played by anyone ever, so maybe Leo should’ve done it the other way round to being with!
Hi
There was a thread on here earlier in the week about a “new signing coming soon”, apparently to be announced on Friday.
There was a huge banner on the Sharksrugby opening page (without the default . aspx) saying as much – any idea why the same banner is now all shattered? Check it out.
Timed almost to when it was announced Nonu had signed for the Blues…
@siorc:really?? :-??
@siorc (Comment 127) : Hi mate
I think you’re reading too much into that. 🙂
The new “signing”, whatever or whoever it is, will be announced at 09h00 tomorrow.
@bergshark (Comment 128) : Thought you were goinf to bed an hour ago? 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 129) : I probably am. I’ll tune in tomorrow at 9 to find out who (or what) we’ve signed.
@robdylan:seems like blackadder is not happy with “the ethics” at the stormers over the drafting of schalk britz.seems like the saders are feeling the pressure.asked the fans and media leave where they were training.maybe worried there could be a rassie spy or two in the mix.
@robdylan (Comment 129) : @siorc (Comment 131) : And it better not be Marius Joubert! 👿
@robdylan:they still to record a semi-final victory in sa.but newlands isn’t loftus.no altitude and not 50k plus crazy blue bulls fans painted blue and waving their blue flags ,and getting excited when the home team kicks an up-and-under.
@Ben:..just a smoke screen..pinky and I have things to do..hehehe 😀
@bergshark (Comment 135) : You aren’t married. Am I right?
@Ben:what gave it away 😀
@bergshark (Comment 137) : Your fondness to hold a conversation with yourself. 😆
@Ben: hahaha 😀
….Who said pinky isn’t for real…? ….? Lol
@bergshark (Comment 139) : How old are you? Just out of curiosity.
35
But you never too old for cartoons 😀
@bergshark (Comment 143) : Not a cartoon fan myself but hey, I’m not judging. 🙂
Except when the cartoon is called American Dad. Now that I dig!
@Ben:Now im really off to bed.see in the morning,hopefully.
@pinky:good night,pinky.
@bergshark (Comment 146) : Cheers, chat again in 30mins or so. 😉
Try not to roll all over Pinky tonight! 🙂
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 59) : Bulls – vegetables , Morne Steyn – sexiest man . what is this world coming to 🙄 🙄 🙄
PS. What did the Sharks do? I hope beef Curry 😆
