The JustRugby.net 2011 Currie Cup competitions are open for entries.
Those of you who have played in our JustRugby.net competitions before will be familiar with the formats but we will give you a quick recap highlighting any changes that have been made.
Fantasy League
We have stuck with the tried and tested format here with no changes having been made.
The objective is pretty simple – select a team of 30 players to score you as many Fantasy League points as you can during the Currie Cup season. You will have to select a Captain and Starting XV from your squad of 30 each week. The Captain will earn double points for that match and the starting XV will earn 1.5 times more points than the non-starting XV players.
During the season you will only be given 10 trades to replace any players you see fit so choose wisely early on. At the end of the season the winner will be the player with the highest score.
Our scoring system is simple and does not use any disputable statistics or achievements such as meters gained or balls carried etc. Our scores are calculated from solid indisputable achievements such as being in the match 22, actually making it onto the field, scoring points, getting carded etc.
The Currie Cup is going to be very tough this year because of the number of players unavailable due to Bok duty. Prove to us and to your friends that you can spot the next big things on the domestic rugby landscape!
Last Man Standing
Again the objective is very simple. Select one winning team each week to stay alive and in the competition. If you choose a non-winning team you die. Once you have chosen a team once you will not be able to choose them again. The Last Man Standing is the winner.
Due to the mismatch of Currie Cup rounds (14) and the number of teams (8) we have had to update the selections a little. You will need to select each team twice during the competition, with the exception of the two weakest teams (the Leopards and the Pumas) whom you will need to select one each.
The training wheels have come off this season and if you donβt keep your wits about you, you will be eliminated chop-chop. There are no longer any default picks. If you forget to make a pick, you die. Experience has taught us, though, that lifelines are pretty necessary (after seeing everyone dead within about 4 rounds of the Super Rugby competition!) and you’ll be pleased to know that each player again has a lifeline for the Currie Cup. Note that lifelines do not apply to missed picks. Those will kill you instantly.
NOTE THAT THE ROUNDS WILL CLOSE AT 5PM SOUTH AFRICAN TIME ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE EACH ROUND. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED AND WILL BE WARNED A FEW MORE TIMES.
In an effort to make the tie break at the end of the competition less biased towards Sharksworld posters we have implemented a new tie break system. A time stamp will be assigned to each pick made, recording the elapsed time from the round being opened to the selection being made. This elapsed time will be totaled each week and at the end of the tournament the smallest elapsed time will be used as the tie break to determine the winner. The opening of the round will NOT be at a fixed time and could be anytime between the completion of the last match and Monday morning. All we can guarantee is that it WILL be open by Monday morning 8am SA time.
Get on over to JustRugby.net and get your teams registered. Your Sharksworld login details can be used to login to Justrugby.net.
Prizes for both competitions will be announced in due course.

Ahh…goody, another game and another opportunity to c me backside
Suggestion for a prize – how about a signed copy of HH’s new book? π
@diablo (Comment 2) : If its signed by Carter ja sure!
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 3) : Thanks, but no thanks, in that case π I was hoping that the author would do the honours π
@diablo (Comment 4) : How about a double, Carter and HH signature! π
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 5) : No wait! Make it even better. The book is signed by the Crusaders 2011 squad along with HH!
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 5) : Still “no thanks” π
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 6) : Where’s the “thumbs up” smiley? π
@diablo (Comment 7) : Do you mean this guy: π ?
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 8) : No, meant a “real” finger sign
@diablo (Comment 9) : Note to self – don’t go any further with that train of thought – you’ll end up with bloggers giving each other the “finger” π π―
@diablo (Comment 9) : Oh! π³
Who cares about competitions? π
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 12) : I do π π
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 13) : π were u not ontop of FL at some stage….
π

@rekinek (Comment 15) : π
@franshark (Comment 14) : What? When? Where? π³ π
@franshark (Comment 14) : @Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 17) : maybe you two dreamt the same dream (how selfless of Franshark π
@rekinek (Comment 18) : Maybe Franshark can see the future, maybe I’ll win it this time
@rekinek (Comment 15) : Crystal balss are not allowed – they are against the spirit of good sportsmanship πΏ Throwing bones on the other hand …
Reread the post and just noticed that we will have lifelines again in LMS. Hopefully I’ll make it to round 4 this time.
Sorry i havent played Fantasy Leuge yet . you have a squad of 30 players . and allowed 10 transfers . i assume that means 10 transfer in and out of your 30 man squad and inside the 30 man squad you can chop and change each week as you please
@Zibbie (Comment 22) : correct… you can change your starting xv and captain as often as you like.
@Zibbie (Comment 22) : yeah, but all squad members will earn you points, how many points will depend if they’re in your starting fifteen or your captain.
@robdylan (Comment 23) : @war1 (Comment 24) :
cool thanx alot π !!!!
@Zibbie (Comment 22) : @robdylan (Comment 23) : By when must the squad of 30 be choosen by? I too have never played FL and might for this Currie Cup but I want to wait a few more weeks until the squads are officially announced for both the Currie Cup teams and the Tri-nations.
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 12) : The odd addicted person π
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 26) : As long as your squad of 30 is chosen by the time the 1st round closes.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 28) : Uncle, Can you maybe remove the *(AddicteD)* part from my name, for some reason I cant get it to change π
@Jarson:managed to kick your addiction?
@bergshark (Comment 30) : Not exactly. I’m hoping that if I ignore it, it will go away π
π
@Zibbie (Comment 25) :
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 26) :
Some notes that have confused the odd new player.
You must 1st fill your squad of 30 players before you can start selecting your Captain and your Starting XV or making trades.
Also remember that any changes you make to your squad of 30 before the close of round 1 will NOT use up any of your 10 trades. If you do bring the same guy in and out a few times it tends to confuse the system on occassion, so double check your squad to make sure you haven’t picked Willem Alberts 30 times. π
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 29) : There’s a hiccup in the system with the changing of names. I will ask Rob to do it.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 34) : Thanks π
ROBERTO!!!! When I log in – it still gives me the SR stuff and telling me I am out of the game in LMS etc….?
@Ice (Comment 36) :
You gotta go to:
http://www.justrugby.net/curriecup/
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 37) : Thank you, Sir Ferguson!
@Ice (Comment 38) :
Only a pleasure Ma’am..
@Ice (Comment 36) : click on the fuggin HUGE CURRIE CUP LOGO, doffes π
Sammy you genius, you just picked 30 players and Keegan is not one of them. And this on the eve of a game against his favourite oppositin. π³
@robdylan (Comment 40) : π
@Salmonoid (Comment 41) : WHAT!!!! that was my first pick, use a trade π
@Salmonoid (Comment 41) :
Make the change, trades only count after the first round..
@robdylan (Comment 40) :
Gaan skyt! π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 44) : How do I make a change?
I had difficult time getting a squad together π
@Salmonoid (Comment 46) : Click on the red ‘X’ next to the player you want to trade out of your team, then you’ll get a dropdown menu to choose your new player.
Thanks.
Cant have Keegan feeling unwanted.
@JarsonX (Comment 47) : shit, but you do complain an AWFUL lot π
@robdylan (Comment 50) : What? π― π³
@JarsonX (Comment 47) : EASY AS PIE.
Just wait for all the teams to be selected and then pick 30 players who ARE playing.
Took my no more than 20min. Just finished.
I have 3 CC games and 2 ITM games on my TV this weekend π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 52) : I picked a squad, waited for the team announcements and adjusted accordingly. My problem was strategy, I have none.
@JarsonX (Comment 53) :
Neither do I! π
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 54) : What’s your excuse?
@JarsonX (Comment 53) : I have one don’t forget to pick π
@franshark (Comment 56) : We’re playing in another game as well, with other rules. Give Rich a mail and he’ll provide the details if you’d like to join. π
