The Sharks will play a pre-Currie Cup compulsory friendly against the SWD Eagles in George on Friday evening as a warm-up to the Currie Cup season which gets underway the following weekend.
Owing to the non-availability of the entire Super Rugby squad (who will be allowed the maximum amount of rest possible given the short break between the two competitions), The Sharks will send a side down to Outeniqua Park that more closely resembles their Vodacom Cup lineup. A fair few under 21 players are expected to make the trip too, in order to ascertain which ones are most likely to be ready to step up to senior rugby this Currie Cup season.
Sean Everitt’s young guns have just returned from their own training camp in the Lowveld, which culminated in a good 67-15 victory for the Sharks under 21 side over their Puma counterparts on Saturday afternoon.
Sharksworld will bring you more information on the composition of the side for Friday night as soon as we get any.

Thanks 😉
@Ice (Comment 1) : thanks for what? 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 2) : Info… 😆
They should rather be playing Boland in Wellington. 😈
@Ice (Comment 3) : you can count on me 🙂
glad there is a mandatory rest period for the SuperRugby guys. Besides it’s a great opportunity for some of the fring and a fring fring players to make a mark – we may need them in and around the tri-nations
@Salmonoid (Comment 4) : any chance you can get to George?
@robdylan (Comment 7) : I can go to George….. But I don’t think that’s the George u talking about 🙂
@franshark (Comment 8) : George at the corner cafe?
@robdylan (Comment 7) : Unfortunately not.
@robdylan (Comment 9) : george staying around the corner from me… 🙂
Should make for interesting game…
@Salmonoid (Comment 10) : it’s quite a trek, isn’t it?
I wonder how the coaches view these compulsory friendlies…they can either be annoyed as it disrupts team preparation as the team that plays in the friendly will be different to the Currie Cup team, or they view them as useful in seeing which players casn make the step up- but isnt that what the Vodacom Cup is for? I think the coaches are more annoyed than anything but obviously have to keep quiet and deal with it.
This will be a very handy run for these guys. Did we play SWD in the VC or were they in a different pool?
The Lions lost their match against the Valke 28-25
@Mutley (Comment 16) : and the Bulls lost to the Pumas
@robdylan (Comment 13) : about three and a half hours,…… too far.
@robdylan (Comment 17) : And Boland beat WPthe not long ago.
