It’s been tortuous – it’s been gruelling! The Super Rugby season has been long indeed and if you think about the toll that the tons of rugby that have been played have taken on our players, spare a thought also for our JustRugby.net Fantasy League managers! Injuries and rapid changes in form have made it a real test of endurance for those intrepid souls who have stuck with us through 21 rounds of action, but we’re finally able to announce our winner!
Before I get to that, though, I need to come clean about something. We had a pretty unfortunate incident in the final round where a player attempted to unfairly influence the result and very nearly succeeded too. This player entered a team just before the final and packed that team with players from only the two sides contesting the final – a pretty sure-fire way to snag the MVP bonus when all other managers who have had teams in the running from the very first round wouldn’t have been able to pad their teams in such a manner. While our rules did not specifically prohibit this behaviour (rest assured that they will be changed for future competitions) we have decided to disqualify the player on the grounds of behaviour contrary to the spirit of the game, as allowed by rule 8.
Let’s then heartily congratulate our winner and long-time friend, Hertford Highlander, who I know has been obsessively plotting his rise to the top ever since the preliminary squads were first named back in January. He played a superb tactical game, saved up his trades and by picking the form players, managed to snag crucial MVP bonuses in both of the last two rounds, to pip our second-placed contestant, Goggabies, by the narrowest of margins right in the final round.
Since HH is based in New Zealand, we’ll arrange a suitable prize for him. Goggabies will win our runner up prize, which is a smartphone courtesy of competition sponsor Vodacom.We’ll be in touch with both of you by email to arrange the prizes.

I clearly am just way too dom for this game – and lazy too…but how could that sucker have accomplished anything? I thought you have to accumulate points per round, surely one round would not have landed him anywhere?

It is one of those competitions that goes until the very last game in many ways.
I watched you lead from Round 2 to 20, and I didn’t think I could reel you in unless the Reds won it.
You were very unlucky that three South African Teams did not qualify for the finals – which was a very close call and if they had the competition was yours.
